Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel!
First off the question why passengers and most flight crew enter from the left hand side of the aircraft. When you walk down the air bridge or up the stairs into an aircraft you almost always enter through the front or second left door usually called L1 or L2 Left. There are some exceptions such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 which often board through both the front and aft left hand doors using mobile staircases to speed up the boarding process. Pretty familiar with EasyJet and RyanAir for example. And some regional Turboprop Aircraft like the ATR 42 and 72 board through the aft left hand door only as often the forward part is for cargo loading.
So we see that the door number can change from aircraft to aircraft but it is always on the left side of the aircraft which you enter from. The reason for this is due to many things in aviation related to maritime industry.
Before the invention of the centralized rudder, many old ships were directed by steering oars or boards on the back right hand side of the ship. The term starboard which refers to the right side of the ship or aircraft comes from the old English word “steer-board” meaning the side from which the ship is steered. Because the ships were steered from the right or starboard side, the boat would dock on the left side for loading and unloading, hence the left is called the „Port side“. I’m guessing a few „A-ha moments“ right there. This tradition of loading on the left has continued into the era of flying boats where passengers come on board from the left hand side using the piers and ramps boats had used before until todays modern jet era.
This also allows cargo and service vehicles to attach from the right hand side so that ground crew and refuellers can do their work without hundreds of passengers being too close to sensitive or potentially dangerous areas and equipment. The right hand doors can also be used for wheelchair access lifts if the aircraft is not connected to an air bridge.
Nowadays many airports are built specifically for boarding from the left handside , sometimes with even two airbridges above each other to cater for the upper deck of the Airbus A380. Or to board first class and business separately from economy. Overtime airlines have established their before flight procedures around the left handside of their planes in order to welcome passengers entering through the forward left door. Even the cabin interior is set up to board from the left, on Easyjets Airbus A319 and A320 you don‘t board through the narrow galley kitchen on the right, you come from the wider entrance on the left. Just look out for that the next time you board an orange plane.
....
Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this video!
Wishing you all the best!

Port to port is the standard rule in sailing and aviation, but the an aviation captain sits on the left; and on a vessel the helm is on the right (generally).

"Why do PASSENGERS BOARD from the LEFT? " Easy, that way he can see when everybody has boarded the aircraft and is therefore less likely to run someone over.

I am s former Italian air force pilot and I flew with Atlantic BR1150 maritime patrol where the captain seated on the right side. The plane was intended to operate like a war ship. On the ship the Commander is neither at the steering position or at power one. The crew on the Atlantic was of a captain and 2 pilots, one on the left and one on the back as tactical coordinator for the maritime patrol and anti submarine warfare. The captain duty was the overall supervision and decition making process. Now I am TRE on airliner and I still aplly the concept that the captain has to manage the overall situation without be directly flying. Ciao 👍

I remember back in I think it was 1980 when we went on vacation to Florida the one aircraft we flew on, we boarded on the right hand side. If I remember correctly there was a problem with the one boarding ramp, it would not extend fully and ended about 3 to 4 feet short of the aircraft. So we had to go to the next gate and board from the Right hand side of the aircraft. LOL The Reason I remember it so clearly, the gate personnel allowed me to up on the boarding ramp as it was extending. My mom and now late Father and I were first in line, and I was 8 years old at the time. The one person who extends the ramp said to me: "Would you like to be on the ramp as it extends to the aircraft?" Of course I said yes. They then said: "Do not tell anyone we let you on here as it was extending, because no passengers are supposed to be on here as it is extending. okay." My parents waited in the first few feet of the gate near the terminal as I watched at the first few that meets the aircraft. When the Ramp would not extend anymore and came up 3 to 4 feet short, the person said: "Looks like we have a little problem here and we are going to have to go back and try something else." The Flight attendants waived at me and said hello to me as we approached the aircraft and asked the person operating the ramp: "Who is your friend?" LOL

Vor MonatPat Callender
It seems to me that this has more to do with the practice of all American operated motorised vehicles being outfitted with left hand drive unlike the British right hand drive which is still in existence today. Remember that engine driven airplanes first appeared in the U.S and it is therefore conceivable that all other countries fell in line with that convention We could not have dangerous chaos in the air where some pilots in command sat on the left and others sat on the right.
