VII was my first. I'd recommend starting with that. VI is great too.

I know ff7 gets lots of hate now days, but I just beat it for the first time without playing any others and loved it. Addicting Materia system and I thought the story and soundtrack were great! Just my thoughts

Radin V totally agree. There are people who actually have reasons for not liking it, which is fine. But it’s those people who go out of their way to hate it. For example on the one winged angel YouTube video, I saw some comments saying “sephiroth was a garbage villain”, or “Kefkas song was better than this trash”. It just pisses me off because they’re going out of their way to listen to a song from a game they don’t like just to dislike it and leave a hate comment. I don’t know why this makes me so mad though. Lol. I agree I think because of its popularity it’s become more hated by some. I still love it though

It is one of my favorite games of all time, the gameplay, soundtrack and story are all amazing. But whenever something is popular, there is always going to be a small group of people who hate on it.

Its always hard when people ask me what game u should play first becouse im not shure becouse some of FF games are actually very good but my first Final Fantasy game was 10 then 7 but i would highly recomend start with FF 6 and after that 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and more or if i remember correctly 11 was supposed to be like an online game on ps2 but ofcourse there are no servers to play with in 11

I played 7 first, and it is by far the best place to start. The systems are simple, the plot is easy to follow but still amazing, and the whole thing is probably the most adventure feeling Final Fantasy game. But I think 7-10 are the ones you have to start with first, because they are by far the best the series has to offer.

this depends. on one hand i would say one would absolutely have to play FFVI. that is a must. but i feel like if they played the hands down best FF game ever first that it would ruin their taste for the others being that they simply arent ass good in story. FFVII is definitely a contender and often debated to be better than VI, but i disagree having played them both. that being said it is another must have. so i wont recommend a first game i just know that you have too play all of them up to X. but most importantly FFIV, Vm VI, and VII. oh it also may not be a FF game but you have to throw in Chrono Trigger and maybe even Chrono Cross

I like that you said 4, because that was the best story in my opinion, and I prefer story. I also like the SNES version of 4. I thought the PSP version looked absolutely horrible, and I liked the DS version, although, it was harder. Also, the PSP version was really no harder than the SNES version for me, although I got so fast that I could win the SNES version without grinding before trying the PSP version. The Final Fantasy games are all so easy for me now and I like them all through 10, but I still love FFIV.

I'm not really into turn based battles or into final fantasy tbh but my first (idk if it counts as a final fantasy game) was Dissidia, mann i loved the battle system in that game so muchhh i think I got like 300+ hrs on the original game. I didnt know most of the characters (only knew sephiroth and cloud since they have a cool ass design) and I was like hmm who is this, Terra?? and I got obsesseddd. Her design is so awesomee and now I started playing Final Fantasy 6, I'm enjoying it so far. Idk why I shared this =))) maybe some people will be in the same situation as me

I'd say IV is a good starting point for those who're new to RPGs in general. You get to try out a bunch of different jobs and party setups without having to worry about choosing the right party for tough encounters since your party is tied to story progression. That said, if you've played other RPGs and want gameplay customizability and a satisfying difficulty curve that'll hook you, V is your game, tough as it may be. It works especially well for first timers since the game doesn't punish you for experimenting with classes (say, if you've no idea what a dancer is supposed to do, only to ditch it hours later because it didn't strike your fancy) thanks to the way your stats shuffle around to match your current occupation the moment you equip it. You also don't need to grind to beat the game as long as you're willing to experiment with your party setup whenever you hit a wall since the jobs come with their most essential skills and stats right off the bat, which is always a plus if you prefer to keep moving forward.

Night the ff1 iPhone game....prefer to play all of 1-9 on my android via emulator.....I have actual boxes copies of all of them..in pretty much every form (even a boxed ffvii and ffviii pc set from ebay) on just about every console they came out for (including my psp and vita I sold....but still have ffx/x2 and 20th annoversary). Ergo I feel no guilt for this. Edit @12:45 I actually played ffiii (usa) on the snes....on my actual SNES :) granted not until I bought them later, ff7 was my intro and I hated it....no guide no idea what to do I didnt look around....played ff8 all the way then eventually went back....when I found old memory card under my bed.....no idea.....with my ff7 save from my first attempt, years after i had gone back and beat it i found out why i hated it....i was hours in with 2 or 3 materia and NO all materia

@Jackson Davidson Yeah I loved them now I'm playing 10, yeah I thought the 7 original would seem older and boring compared to the remake but I was wrong it gave me more insight into the story and the characters and it is making me more hyped for the second part.

This is honestly the same tough question like which Gundam should you start first? UC or AU? FF1-6 is basically the UC. 7-15 is AU. And 9 is Turn A which heavily reference UC. Another way I can describe this is 1-6 is DC comics, and 7-15 is Marvel comics. 1-6 has heros inspires you more. 7-15 has heros you relate to more. I think it comes down to how old you are. If you are born in the 2000s and later, stick with 7-15.

Beware of spoilers for FFX below. My first FF was 8. I loved it and still do. However, 10 was my favorite. Yea, the whole sphere grid thing was a mess, but I love the story and the battle system to this day. Only thing I didn't like about the story was how Rikku was introduced (the second time). She was kinda just there on the beach, then suddenly she's a guardian faster than Tidus became one. Other than that, Rikku is great. Big comic relief character in a dark point where it was kinda needed. Even though I didn't like her introduction, I like where it happened. Edit: Spoiler warning. Just in case.

I've only ever played IV, VII, X, XII. Well I've played XIII and XV but I couldn't even immerse myself into them. Personally I think a newcomer would be turned off by all the reading and I hate to say lower res graphics. I'm a story guy and though I prefer VII I think X takes the cake for easiest to a newcomer. No ATB completely turn based and easy to master, plus the story to me is beautiful and compelling. I don't recommend IV or XII. IV because of my previous comment and XII because it was a different approach I think both should be picked up after X. So yeah I'm going with X it was technically my first. I never really got through VII I was very young and the only other final fantasy game I remember owning and beating after was X, then XII back to VII and then IV. Can't speak on the others. XIII and XV just aren't my cup of tea.

Very interesting video...so have you played all of them even the MMO ones, cause I have played most of the regular ones but not all of them and none of the MMO RPGs. Of the ones I have played, I would play them in this order: FF I FF IV FF VII FF X FF VI FF V FF II Well, that's just me though...and the order I played them and beat them in was... FF I FF IV FF X FF II FF V FF VII Still haven't really finished VI but I have the Playstation version and the loading times are just annoying and I was trying to get all the monster summons for Gau. Oh, and I've finished XV, but I don't know where to put that in the list at all. I hope they make FF 1-6 a collection for the new consoles cause I really want to play through all of 6 and I've never played 3 at all. It should have a full Bestiary to unlock...that would be so awesome.

I never got a choice. Played I, IV, VI, VII, V, VIII, IX, X, II, XII, III, XIII, XV. Each are very unique, and aside from XIII, (not knocking it, so do not go there) I have played each numerous times over. VI will always be the closest to perfection in terms of mixing great story, character development, world building, and game play.

I'm not certain I would recommend playing an MMO just because it's _Final Fantasy._ By all means, if you're looking for an MMO to play and you do like _Final Fantasy,_ there's fun to be had. However, one does not simply "try" an MMO where you can put 100 hours in and barely scratch the surface. I'd say it's mostly a waste of time if you aren't actually planning to sticking with the game for quite some time and there's just more value elsewhere unless you're actually looking to play an MMO.

...so for anyone watching in 2020, FF IX is much more widely available. I actually started it on a whim after seeing that it arrived on Xbox Game Pass of all places. I knew nothing about the series going in, aside from the games being self-contained stories. But man...I didn’t expect to be playing what might end up being my new favorite game. IT’S SO GOOD. I’m definitely more of a story-driven player, so I guess I got lucky picking this one to start with. It started a bit slow, but once I got a few hours in...I started to get a feeling that I was playing something very special. Even now I can’t be much more than halfway through, but I’m already feeling sad knowing it’s going to eventually end. I would say that newcomers shouldn’t be afraid to start with IX if they’re looking for good story and characters, in a kind of “Legend of Zelda”-style world. I’m very glad I started with IX. God it’s so good...
