I was at the game 7 against Atlanta last year where Simmons passed the ball instead of dunking. I was sitting no more than 30 ft away and even before that it was obvious the entire game, but especially the 4th quarter, that Simmons didn't want any part of having the ball in his hands when they needed a basket. The second after he passed that ball, there was a feeling throughout the entire arena that Simmons just played his last game as a Sixer and GOOD RIDDANCE!! We gave that dude YEARS of patience waiting for him to just attempt shooting the damn ball but he never did. Then had the nerve to try and make it seem like Philly fans are to blame for why he can't play in Philly anymore. Softest professional athlete I've ever witnessed

“The man turned around and won back to back championships” Thanks to the team trading for Pau Gasol and listening to Kobe’s demands for better teammates. Had they not done that, Kobe was gone from the Lakers
Vor 3 MonateIan Sanchez
Jxmy seemed to forget that part. Kobe went live on a radio show in the summer of '07 and said he wanted to be traded. It looked bad. In the middle of the next season, Lakers get Gasol. Without him, Kobe ain't winning no back-to-back chips and 3 straight Finals appearances.
Vor 2 MonateGarren Miller
I think what's most irritating is the fact that he's content with where he is. He had a horrible performance against Atlanta in the playoffs. Philadelphia could have dumped him then and there, but they were nice enough to stick with him. HE was the one who refused to come to practice. He showed blatantly that 1) He didn't care about his performance being lackluster 2) He had no interest in improving his skills. When you get paid tens of millions of dollars just to play a sport, you don't get to say no to improving your skill set. I think that's what made people mad. There are lots of regular players who work a lot harder than Simmons does and get paid less. A good comparison would be Nikola Jokic. That guy works his ass off, is a consistent producer, and makes everybody on his team better. Simmons is not even close to being as valuable as Jokic, but he was going to get paid the same.

I’ve always thought the NBA should do something similar to that of the MLB’s qualifying offer rule and attach draft compensation to players that move via FA. I don’t see the NBA doing that though because in the MLB, it has stripped player empowerment for a lot of mid tier players.

I feel like a lot of this could be fixed with a depreciating trade clause that the closer to resigning the player is, the bigger chunk of his expected salary the player has to give back to the team. Example: player signs 5 year super max and wants to leave in year 2? 40% of the rest of that contract back to the team for signing and dipping. 3rd year? 20%. Last 2? 0%. Etc, etc.
Vor 9 MonateFotios Tsingos
@Daddy Fuse The days where a team had 100% control over a player is long gone. Elephant in the room that no one's addressing? Ben Simmons' antics is ruining future players' contracts. Owners will think much harder before giving a supermax.
Vor 4 MonateDaddy Fuse
@Krusty Krab Pizza You branding it "slave ball" isnt an argument. Yeah, I fully believe if you sign a contract to play for a team for 5 years, you have to do it. They didn't force you to sign. Slaves never signed anything, and they sure didn't make 100 million.
Vor 4 MonateTrung Vu

Vor 6 MonateSTPbasss
There is a difference. Nobody is saying Ben can become Steph or somebody in shooting but a guy getting paid that much should at least be able to shoot better than people at your local basketball court. Random guy's who play basketball for fun can outshoot Ben. I can probably out shoot Ben especially at the free throw line. I barley play and I shoot around 60 to 70% from the line with barely any practice. He can stay the way he is nobody cares, it's that ridiculous contract that he doesn't deserve. He plays like a 10mil a year guy not a max guy. I agree not everyone will become a superstar so he sure as hell shouldn't be paid like one. I find it dumb that he can't work his ass off and get better at shooting when he literally does nothing but play a freaking game and he gets handed insane money for absolutely nothing.

This is what exactly Michael Jordan said. "On our era, players get paid on what they contribute on the team. In this new era, players gets highly paid just because of potential, and it results bad work ethic because they already got what they want."
Vor 9 MonateKaged Storm
MJ was also paid more yearly than most other teams had for their entire salary cap. On the other hand this was the contract he got after coming back from his first retirement. Also players are getting paid more for less productivity compared to the 90s because like most other leagues, the salary cap is mainly how the NBA distributes their profit sharing, which the players paved the way for back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s by continually fighting for bigger slices of the pie. I guess my main point is that MJ is right, but not exactly for the right reasons. Execs will pay for potential because if they don't, another organization will. If that player ends up turning their new team around, the team that let the player go will look idiotic as a result. Additionally, over the entirety of pro sports, more and more players are playing just for the money. Not all of course but a number of players are content just going out and playing so they can collect the contract pay. Especially in leagues where you have to stack the deck in your favor to have a realistic chance at a championship most of the time, the majority of the players understand that they're not winning a title and want to ensure they get something out of the game they put a lot into

Vor 3 MonateSnapdragon024
What really gets me is that I watched Ben Simmons at LSU. To this day, I believe I miss the memo that said Ben was an automatic lottery pick. The kid had skill, but lottery pick? He looked like a promising D-league'r at best. His inability to shoot wasn't new, and he's not even a reasonable combo or point guard.
Vor 4 MonateLord Paul Philipp Fernandez
They were banking on his potential as a defender and a passer, plus his size gives him an advantage in the PG position.
Vor 3 Monateclyde barrow
I have a different take on what's going on with Ben Simmons. I believe he had the same problem as giannis. Giannis is better than Simmons so I'm not comparing the two in that reguard. But everyone said that giannis and simmons can only shoot at the basket and that neither of them have a jump shot. Everyone said that it would eventually become a problem for the both of them. How ever giannis took the approach, "I'll prove you wrong." Ben Simmons took the approach, "maybe your right." I think Ben Simmons let everyone get inside his head. Giannis was to head strong to let other people get inside his head. Ben didn't lose his ability to be a good basketball player over night. He just got inside his own head and started questioning his own ability to grow as a basketball player. That's my opinion anyways. I don't think it's just that Ben Simmons wants to bail on the 76ers and i think it's more complicated than that. He went from being a good player to being trash. Like when he had an open lane to the basket and passed it. It looked like he doubted himself. Other wise why didn't he just not catch the pass to him? Let the ball just fly by you if you don't give a dam. Don't even catch the ball. Don't even suit up to begin with
Vor 8 Monatescentless apprentice

Great vid, as a philadelphian myself, i have to say you couldnt be more on the money, we had to watch this team tank for a decade just to get ben n start building this new franchise, n believe me its an understatement to say “held hostage”, ben WAS suppose to be this franchise n we as fans and the orginization spent years, money, n players we shud have kept (cough, cough butler) on working everything around keeping him happy, n he literally shit on all of it in a half season😡, its bs he shouldnt just be allowed to play now, like “well im on brooklyn now my mental health is better”🤣, its setting a horrible precedent for future players in league, if he wants to cry wolf n USE a real disability people struggle with everyday to get traded, then i think the nba should call his bluff n force him to go thru psychiatric evaluations n stuff mandated by league before he can play again, its rediculous he can just say it, n then say he feels fine now that hes traded n play again by choice, he screwed the fans, the orginization, but most of all, his teamates out of half a season of being the team they shud have been all year, n now hes going to help our rival get “better” for 2nd half of that SAME season, how ethical is that lol, its all good hes never gonna have a quiet night in wells fargo center again believe that lol, n if its playoffs forget about it, hes gonna get booed out of building n i wudnt be suprised if some food n drinks fly at him too coming out tunnel, that 1st bk game in march is already like tix are thru ceiling $$ just cause people want to be there to get at him lol, n we dont even know if hes playing that night yet

When I was growing up the NBA was just like he said, when you think of a team you'd instantly think of the superstar in that team and each team would have their ultra duo or lone wolf or whatever. Really entertaining, nowadays teams like the Lakers have Russell, LeBron, etc and its only getting worse
Vor 6 MonateDevante Toppin
I think that's the part that gets me. Usually it's the team has treated the p[layer poorly in some way but they treated Ben like a king quite frankly when he hadn't even done anything close to earning it. They paid him like one too and the first chance he got he told them to kick rocks. He plays like trash and when he receives a tony bit of criticism it's too much though. Low key I think he's jealous of Embiid. Ben was the golden boy until Embiid proved he was the real star and things started to get catered to him. Ben seems like he resents that honestly which is a huge part of why he wants out so bad imo. He wants to be the star of the team. He doesn't want to be Robin to Embiid's Batman.

@S_AME Slapping with force is considered child abuse obviously. What do you think child abuse means? If one is in public and sees a mother smacking the shit out of their child yeah they would see child abuse. Slapping your child is the lazy way out. Don't want to teach your child understand the implications of their own actions for themselves and thus instead you just smack them make them fear retribution from their parents. Im glad my parents taught me morality the right way. Also this convo is about his behavior on the twolves not his skill as a basketball player obviously butler is skilled and him toxically forcing his way out for a bad package with no players of equivalent value left the twolves in a worse off position.
Vor 9 MonateS_AME
@Dargon Dude Slapping is child abuse nowadays lmao? How soft. I'm glad my mother used to slap me when I make a mistake. Honestly it's always has been where GM's and owners got to do what they want without thinking of the players, the reasoning alway was "the NBA is a business" I think players should be able to use that too
Vor 8 Monatefirst name
Right and like every large business it’s a battle between the workers union and the owners and stockholders. So when Ben Simmons and other players abuse their power to line their pockets with millions of dollars and leverage themselves into winning situations (while refusing to play in unfavorable situations) it’s only uniting the owners and gms against them. Ultimately it will come down to a lockout (strike) over leverage power and contracts, and who do you think will last longer in that situation, the multi billionaire owners… or the players? Remember, most of the players in the nba players union are in fact not millionaires on super max contracts, they are middle tier players making middle tier money. Many with young families and many of them fresh out of draft looking for that first paycheck or nearing the end of their careers looking for that final paycheck. They just need to make their money to support their families. Owners though? Those guys are all billionaires with many fall back plans and billions in assets. They’ve made their money and could ride out years of striking. Players like Simmons are really only hurting their own players union and weakening their own power. If you want an example of what happens when the players lose power in negotiations against the owners just look at the nfl. The owners have WAY more power in that league and really fuck players out of millions. The nba players union needs to reign in players like Simmons that are abusing the system, otherwise there’s going to be a reckoning coming next time they are negotiating the new CBA with the owners. And it might not be something they like.

Simmons worst trash in nba. He won’t ever play even for the nets.

4:24 yes they were making moves, but not necessarily successful ones thought. Definitely not ones that helped Simons develop at all. Also, Embiid doesn't mix very well with Simons and never did. Not trying to defend Simons. He never tried to improve his flaws, but the toxicity of the teams fans and also terrible head coach (imo) didn't help.
Vor 8 MonateBTHO blank
I’m tired of all this “player autonomy is good” when we allow crap like this you kill sports. All competitiveness in the nba is nearly drawn out cause hey if you wanna win just pout long enough to get on a team with all-stars it’s honestly sad. At least when quarterbacks make a fuss they usually just end up sticking with their team😭

@Grant Newman Ben only played a few games in his first season because of injury, and couldn't win ROTY. Instead, he won it in his SECOND year, because he barely played in his first. Now it's an ongoing joke that he is a rookie and when people ask "Who do you think will win ROTY?" people say Ben Simmons.
Vor 9 MonateDa Kid
He’s never going to be able to live that under the basket pass away lmao. I see that clip sooo much whenever you bring up Simmons
Vor 2 MonateCassius Felix
Ben Simmons should just grow up and play like 10 or so games to still show teams he got it. The last time we seen him play was losing to The Atlanta Hawks in the playoffs.
Vor 8 MonateDPatt36
I get what you're saying but to say that players moving around less would create more parity and hearken back to the league in the 90's is a statement that contradicts itself. The 90's had the least parity of any era other than the 60's.
Vor 4 MonateDeelaw
That free throw montage was so disrespectful and I love it
Vor 9 MonateEunice Braga
Lonzo managed to fix his shot and solidify his reputation as a defender and Ben Simmons is still the same player. Also, Kobe didn't just keep quiet. He threatened to sign with another team, and that forced the Lakers to get their act together. Kobe stayed loyal and won 2 more, he got a golden parachute even when he was injured.
Vor 9 MonateBoognish Beast
@Kenrick Eason can't believe you're admitting it. Kudos. I honestly think had they gave up two rings to a very beatable Spurs team as well as that pistons finals. And then the other potentials after Shaq left.
Vor 4 MonateKenrick Eason
@Wally Osmond I hate to admit that you're right but you are right.. The Lakers would be a 5 or 6 years championship dynasty if Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal kept their egos in check..

@Harvey Yusof Tan That's why NBA teams hire NBA shooting Coaches.. People think you can just walk up in there and play ball.. As a PG/SG Your Shots must be accurate, your defense must be on point, Your Basketball IQ/ Regular IQ must be off the charts, Must have great Court Vision, must be able to read defenses as well as offenses in progress.. You may get away with not doing everything in Highschool and College (Even then the Coaches will get on you for it some will cut you immediately) but in the Pros here and across the World Owners/Coaches/GMs will cut/will fire you immediately if you don't produce numbers and wins..

Talking about less movement where each team has their own superstars. I feel like we have that in Boston. Other than Kyrie I feel like we’ve had really loyal people people playing for us. Like Tatum or brown could easily leave to any team but they seem to want to win in boston

Vor 6 MonateOrlando Santana
You are spot on. Even tho the sixers got an older Harden, at least we have a player that will play. That is going to give the sixers a big boost. I laugh that Brooklyn fans think they got such a great deal. We didnt give away any of our young talent. 1st round picks that will be late picks that rarely ever work out and the funniest part is that they say they dont need him to shoot. Whenever he is on the floor the paint will be crowded because he wont shoot. He will never shoot. Not to mention Kyrie is a part time player who will probably leave Brooklyn in a year or 2. Durant is the best player in the NBA but he cant win it all by himself. Sixers got a legit scorer to play with an MVP player in Embid! Watch!!!

@Dylan Forster I can shoot better than Ben, set us up so you can see. There's no way in fvxking hell I'd miss 10 straight FREE THROWS no matter what the context is. Now, Ben will dominate me in every othet aspect of Basketball, but people like him doesn't want to put in the reps to become a decent shooter, I like my chances on that.

so it’s a problem when the players treat it like a business and make harsh decisions, but then when the front offices ship you out without warning and do what’s best for the team.. a player can’t do what’s best for himself?? if a team can control when your done, so should a player be able to control when he’s done, simple.
