When you think of my private area I don't want you to think about anything just a smooth patch of skin, not like a Barbie doll has but like a mix between a Barbie and a Ken doll. I feel like the bowties look great in places where you would expect to see some support like sides or bottom but on the top of the table they are distracting

Mrs Chainsaw is never wrong, I can think of a couple reasons why. Bow ties look like stitches on a wound. Not a big fan of them. As usual, the table came out great! Nice job 👍

Charlie, gorgeous table. Clean simple lines that add to the beauty of the slab. Neither the thickness nor the size detracts, even in that space.

Charlie :þ This may be a silly question, but how do you know where to chip out all these soft spots, bark etc? Because watching the video I couldn't tell that it would have been a problem, I thought those imperfections actually looked nice lol

If you dont pick them out, over time with age, shrinkage and wear, little bits will start falling off and they will stand out like dogs nuts.

Charlie - I am doing research on live edge tables. This is in order to make or have someone make one out of an oak tree that has been on our property when purchased in 1940. It is probably well over 250 years old. You seem to be very knowledgeable in this area and love watching your videos. Take care of your back and thanks for your hard work.

It has silicon dioxide in it which can cause itchy dry skin in some people and painful skin conditions in others.

Charlie, been watching your videos for a few months and they've really inspired me to look into this craft. It's amazing watching the patters come to life. That being said, as a person with OCD if you delivered me a table with three inlaid bow ties right in the middle of the the top of the table you'd be taking it home with you. It really does clash hard and ruins the natural look for me.

I am a fan of your videos even though I am nowhere near the woodworker you are, thank you for allowing me to see how you do things even the mistakes and how you resolve them. I do most of my work on a CNC 3D router system I am getting better at fixing mistakes thanks to you, I learned about CA glue and activator and from your videos and it has helped me alot.

Charlie, I have watched a few of your videos. You do really nice work. I like your candor and demeanor as well as your sense of humor in the production of your videos.I made my first live edge slab table back in the seventies. It was from a fallen butternut tree. I was in high school at the time.my shop teacher had limited knowledge regarding epoxy and I don’t remember there being a lot of technology available to me at the time. I do remember my mother (RN) supplying me with syringes and needles to inject resins and hardeners into needed areas. Anyway your videos have helped me as I am about to try my hand at another top. A small coffee table size slab. Walnut this time. Sized perfectly to fit thru a 36” wide belt sander.I will be trying your finish regime on this one.

Charlie, question have you ever thought to put a small crane on the ceiling of your workshop? Or a block and tackle setup? By the way, this must be one of the nicest slabs to date. It was absolutely beautiful, and I’d hang that on my wall if the wife let me. We have different ideas as to what looks best in our home.

Charlie, I really like your work. It’s beautiful! One question: the moisture meter you use says in the description that it only measures to .75”. Most slabs are greater than 2-1/4”. Does this present a problem? Thanks Jeff

Its a great project to do and I'm making a gantry crane out of an old server rack...I have seen yputubers making wooden ones too. Might be a bit too fussy rigging it to the wood all the time though.

I used to do night cleaning of offices, and at one place they had an oversized conference table made of a single slab. Must have been an antique. Polishing it each week was part of the joy of working a dead end job. BTW, that couple look like regular folks, not pretentious social climbers. It's great that you were able to help them beautify their home. Well done!!

Charlie, absolutely beautiful table. Always enjoy the videos. Got your class recently for doing epoxy tables and will do one soon. I have been doing river coffee tables and many many charcuterie epoxy boards over the last year. I became interested a little over a year ago in doing epoxy work after seeing one of your videos on Youtube. It was my first video and yours have been my go to ones for inspiration over the last year. So thanks for all you have done to encourage beginners like me. As far as bow ties I am not fond of them but have the templates from Rockler and am going to master doing at least one so I can say I did it! LOL

If there are other products or tools we can use for doing a particular task you mention it. This sets you aside from others that I've seen who are slaves to sponsors. As a shade tree wood worker that can see a true craftsmanship and craftsman at his craft thank you first for the content and second yourself out there. You motivate me to perfect my craft. Lastly I wanted to know a little about the name of your channel\business. Your name ultimately is what drew me to your channel.

im kind of in the middle on the bowties i’ve seen ones i loved and ones i didn’t but i can appreciate the fit either way i personally love selling the little brass pieces like little bars in wood rather than bow tie shape but i just really love brass and wood together lol and the wood for this table is so so prettyyyy

Charlie, Have you considered: adding epoxy to the wood at and around the threaded inserts? I feel this would distribute the load to a larger volume of wood surrounding the point of stress.

Thanks so much for your awesome videos! Have you thought about putting in a gantry with hoist to help move around the slabs easier? I don't think they are very expensive and it may help you keeping your back and fingers in good working order.. :)

Charlie, I gotta agree. After watching your stuff for years and having a major case of shop envy, I’d put a hoist on a beam so you could lift and move these slabs around your shop. A slipped disk or hernia is no fun and could put you out of work. Oh BTW, same thing has happened to me with a router a couple of times. The worst was when the bit ended stuck in the ceiling. Still trying to get my other ball to drop……

Charlie, I have to agree with Ted, every time I see you lift those slabs all I can think of is “can’t he put a hoist system in with a button and straps to help him flip those slabs” if you’re hurt we don’t get great content and your customers don’t get awesome wood working projects. Think about!!!

this channel eases my anxiety. and i am in love with walnut tables and everything you build. since i cant workout i think wood working will be my new hobby. ( not undermining the absolute amounts of work you do and ite effort it takes)

@tj boylan i should have explained better lol...i have chronic hypertension and its not going away and its very bad ...m told to walk not even run or strafe...i am told to not even try to climb stairs in 1 go ...i dont think ill live a long life (24 right now) ...so i just want to do something to yk keep myself busy and i really love woodworking i havent done any but llike i really apreciate the beauty. and yeah anything can be an exersise ..i work standing all day and i dont sit ..it has helped me a lot.

I do a lot of small scale woodworking because I’m a bladesmith and swinging a hammer is a great workout. Anything can be a “workout” you don’t have to lift weights you can do functional strength exercises

Those bow ties really look awesome, love the quality behind these builds. I sometimes am thinking wow that's a lot of work. Look what these tables cost though for the person purchasing it. It's cool to see all the thought that goes into making a quality table, that won't have issues later on. I have enough experience to know this is not easy work, and there is a lot of good quality happening on these builds.

Charlie what a great project - I'm going to have to try the manual bowties on some scrap pieces!! You make it look so easy - but that's what fine craftsmen do 🙂
