@Jiří Krajňák even if 1200 people worked on it each for an hour, 1200 * 1 is still 1200 hours for one video. Good math there buddy Just because it's a lot of people doesn't mean it's not an insane amount of time for a video, especially only an 8 minute long video that's animated (i.e. they don't have to find locations, hire actors, get props, etc.).

The real danger isn’t an isolated single large detonation, but strategic detonations over the largest population centers. I think fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective I suppose, most of the nuclear war would be limited to the northern hemisphere. Prevailing winds should be favorable for less radioactive fallout in regions south of 30 degrees.

War...war never changes
Vor yearAustin
why on earth would every government plan and agree to detonate every single nuclear warhead in one place? that's the stupidest movie plot i've ever heard of
Vor 2 MonateAwesomeIronGuy +7
I mean, this assumes the combination of all the nukes will have the same yield as the sum of its parts. With such a violent reaction a ton of material will just get blown away before it can go boom. Even if the nuke were synced perfectly, you would still have to deal with the explosions’ interference with each other.
Vor 6 MonateIkillyouxyz +201
'If intelligent life reemerges after this they will eventually find a thin layer of uranium covering the entire earth, along with signs of our civilization and be very confused' - yea I'd imagine it'd be pretty confusing to find there was ancient intelligent life, only to find they blew themselves up for no particular reason.
Vor 9 MonateIkillyouxyz +4
@random guy I mean, it's more the idea of them finding that we piled all the nukes in one place and blew them up with no discernible reason, not really the capability of doing so.
Vor 7 Monatenambu +17
I honestly think they'd agree that we were attacked by aliens, rather than guess humans are stupid enough to destroy themselves like this
Vor 6 MonateThe random Axolotl +2
So the fact that this mostly took into account medium yield uranium nuclear fission bombs makes it all the more terrifying when the thought of a high yield hydrogen/thermonuclear fusion bombs enter the chat- because the radiation they spew is no joke, let alone their much better efficiency-
Vor 3 MonateAndy Chamberlain Music +4233
I think the biggest takeaway here is that even if we amassed all the uranium in the entire earth, it would only be *on par* with a space rock. Space rocks are crazy man
Vor 4 yearszqfmgb123 +274
Kinetic energy from stellar impacts are crazy.
Vor 4 yearsMichael Hollinger +45
Menthols That’s exactly how NDT would like to see the Space Force (or currently the Air Force Space Command) develop into. Watched him talk about it on Joe Rogan. A Space Force to clean-up the junk in atmosphere as well as detect and defend from space rocks. Currently, Tyson states space to space warfare would not be possible without technology and understanding of physics. He also pointed out a treaty that requires peace among all nations in space yet he thinks that only goes so far because we need to learn to have peace on Earth before ever thinking peace in Space would be a reality.
Vor 4 yearsVk Deen +23
e=mc^2........c^2!! kinetic energy is king "space rocks" move fast very fast, as long as they are big enough to survive the atmospheric burn up then they are dangerous and yea nukes have deadly fallout but large 'space rock' literally cause mass extinction events... they can cause all sorts of havoc including dust in the atmosphere blocking out sun light for decades and triggering volcanic/seismic events...

I got one for you : Imagine all the mountains and mountain ranges in the world would be taken to create ONE massive mountain (and for the sake of this thought experiment we assume that the crust would be able to withstand that massive pressure without giving in ). A mountain so unbelievably big it even puts olympus mons to shame. It is about 5 times as wide as it is high, so the peak would even reach space, that is how massive it is. Now further imagine that at the base of this giant we have a lake that contains all the water on earth combined into this one massive lake, immeasurably deep and longer and broader then our massive mountain even. Now for whatever reason this gigantic mountain would suddenly collapse and fall into our lake. Man that would splash.

I can't experience existential dread if I'm amazed by the animation quality.

funny he'd say that because he's the flippin guy who encouraged the development of the atomic bomb

I think it would be interesting to see where the best and worst place to set off the nukes.

If all the existing nuclear weapons were detonated together, realistically they couldn't all explode at exactly the same time. Therefore, wouldn't most of the weapons be nuked by the other nukes? What happens if you nuke a nuke...? 🤯

it's unlikely that they would find fossilised humans since humans don't really fossilise already, so when everything is burnt or disintegrated by the bomb, the fallout and/or the radioactive wasteland, gon be pretty difficult

If anyone was wondering, the final bomb would have a yield of 1.5 quadrillion tons, or 1,500,000,000,000,000 tons, or 1.5 Petatons of tnt. Skipping straight over Giga and Tera tons.

I don’t know if you’ll see this, but when I went into the nuke map provided by the link and putted in the 3 billion tons of tnt by converting it to 3000000 kilotons, it said the max input was only 100000 kilotons So I was wondering how did y’all manage to input it in?
