What Happened To Fossil Watches?

The global watchmaking industry has changed since the introduction of the smartphone and as demand for fitness trackers and smartwatches grow. Legacy watchmakers, like Fossil, have had to adapt and give customers new reasons to keep timepieces on their wrists. The company has been planning for the future by bringing its own smartwatches to market, initiating a multi-year turnaround plan and focusing on growing markets in China and India. But will that be enough?

    What Happened To Fossil Watches?

I've had my £300 watch for almost 30 years.......Only had a new battery about 5 times too. It wasn't a Fossil.

difference between fossil and Apple watch. fossil doesnt need a software update, tells them your location, looks better and fossil doesnt downgrade the battery life on your watch like apple did. and best of all, you dont need to recharge it every single day.

They’ve got the best looking smart watches though. All these square, athletic watches are soooo ugly. I have a gorgeous engagement ring and a fitbit clashes so hard with it. Fossil is so much better for working women in a professional setting, or anytime, really.

And good riddance: the poser's watch! Buy a 5$ Emporio Armani piece of crap and spend 500$ thinking to have a "luxury brand" instead of buying Seiko or Hamilton for the same amount. (Oh well, there is Daniel Wellington, Movado, MVMNT, and other copycat now)

Now a days who ll buy these mechanical luxury watch. Apple made premium watch with life saving features. All of them shifted to smart watches. Once smart phones emerges in 2007 everything changed a lot. Most of the well known brands shutsdown their business. Buyers want minimal divices with lote of features and functionality. Most of them only carry smartphone and smart watch doing all the things and everyday task with efficient.

I love my Fossil watches I am not going to change and I do not buy their smart watches. I just like a good old simple watch plain and simple no technology involved. Not to mention they have a lifetime guarantee. I had a couple scratches from falling on some links and I paid the $10 which is the fee no matter what's wrong and they just replaced the whole band so which I didn't even mention that had the little chip in it. All for $10 and they sent it back to me free I didn't have to pay shipping and handling to get it back just to send it. I like that and I like they're limited edition collections also. I have other brands but I love my fossils.

There is no need to watch all of this to know the reason why FOSSIL is out to drain. The potential strategy that fossil may use in my opinion as a strategic analyst, includes investing heavily in producing high-quality accessories for these top sale smartwatches (i.e. bands, cases ..). By that time they are (as a brand) more recognizable to new generation users, they need to acquire the knowledge to make more innovative / or added value smart watches to their customers. If they persist their current way. by 2023 they will declare solvency :)

My first Fossil watch lasted me 15 years. Only changed the battery 4 times. For me fossil is quality personified. I have several fossil watches, purses, handbags. I'll never wear another brand. People go crazy over Michael Kors products when they are actually made by fossil. But at the end of the day, the beauty of it all is that there is a brand and style for everyone, for every preference.

A friend of mine had a job interview in Basel, Switzerland. The HR guy asked a racially loaded question (for Americans it would be the equivalent of: "why are you a stupid Mexican?"). There was another Fossil manager in the room who didn't intervene. Without going more into details, I no longer care about Fossil. If they have such incompetent people in leadership positions, Fossil can go bankrupt. The world would be better off.

I prefer a hybrid smartwatch, unfortunately Fossil makes it clunky big watch I tried buying two of them and sent them right back. Tbh I never liked the idea of a "smart watch" when they came out 3 4 years ago, and I still don't! I *LOVE* my Fossil and Timex and nothing can change my mind about that. I still like mechanical watches, though I find smart watches to be more functional. What I'd love though would be a hybrid smartwatch; something with an automatic movement as well as a transparent display overtop the dial. Would be even better if they could run the smart functions using the mainspring as the battery. Might even lead to a battery technology revolution (using mainsprings for energy storage), but I imagine it would require different materials than are traditionally used in mainsprings.

They probably will be able to surpass Apple watches in terms of performance over time (Apple watches design and size are trash, connectivity is only positive) for basic smart watches for basic people. But I can’t see them rivaling brands like Garmin. Just compare Garmin’s Tactix Delta Solar capabilities, durability, and battery life to Apple, Samsung, and Fossil and it’s not even a question. Price point is the only barrier

A very good documentry over all. Its also very much like case study of Fossil watches documented really nicely. Fossil is heritage brand, but time changes so should Fossil. Its upto innovators and marketing specialist to increase their sale. India and china seems a good market they have acquired but Fossil will have to fight its way in to market against players like Titan, Fastrack and other brands to create their own customer base. Other premium category brands also appeal a consumer, but to make its way in ,Fossil will have to adjust its price to make it more appealing.

I bought a Fossil smartwatch a few years ago, and it's truly shocking how woefully inferior it is to an Apple Watch. The battery didn't even last a full work day (versus 2.5 days for my Apple Watch). The Fossil NEVER connected to my iPhone, so none of the apps worked (weather, email, text notifications, etc). And it was an absolute nightmare trying to download 3rd party watch faces b/c routinely failed to connect to wifi or my iPhone (or both). I haven't worn it in over 4 years and I definitely don't miss it.

Junk watches that you throw away soon after purchasing, because of quality issues. I’ve bought watches made by fossil in the past and when something simple like a strap breaks the distributor will laugh at you when you want to get it replaced (because it’s cheaper to buy a new watch). At least with the Apple Watch, you get a good warranty and the straps\ bands are always interchangeable between versions.

I'm pretty sure the fall in Swiss watch exports is self-inflicted. 2015/2016 you could walk into a dealer and have your pick. 2019, there was no stock anywhere and demand was high. There is no correlation between demand affecting supply in 2019 (no reason for the export amount to drop since supply was higher than years past).
