Perfect pitch definitely helps in this game, but Brett is close enough when he knows the tune 👌

essentially, unless you have insane memory, you won't ever memorize a long melody by identifying the notes one by one, even if you have perfect pitch, you'll instead memorize the melody and use relative pitch to write it down, sure perfect pitch will let you easier identify the key but that's it

@Pollux_id relative pitch does that, perfect pitch lets you identify the exact pitch of a note but won't help you memorize them, won't help you know the relationships between them etc. all of that has to be learned, other than identifying the right key, (which isn't all that relevant and can be done using relative pitch if you have one note well memorized), perfect pitch is of little help in this case

@Pollux_id lots of ear training can get you close to perfect pitch. If you fumble around until you find the starting note, you can listen for intervals in the melody,/figure out the chord progression. It takes a lot longer for sure, but its very doable

@terriblecacti Then how is having an ear different from having perfect pitch? I'm able to play recognizable tunes, but they could be transposed wrong. Perfect pitch would be able to identify the key, ear would be able to identify the tune.

Fun facts: 1) the sound used for the Metro Goldwyn Mayer is not actually a lion’s roar. In fact, it’s a tiger’s roar. I’m sure who exactly, but someone in the team responsible for the clip decided they didn’t like the lion’s roar and put in a tiger’s instead. It sounds much closer to what most people a lion should sound like. It’s actually pretty common in media to use a tiger’s roar instead of a lion. Look up a lion’s roar, though. It’s totally different! 2) the Disney opening with the castle is actually a rendition of When You Wish Upon a Star from the Pinocchio movie. One of the few exceptions to this is in the movie Coco, which uses a mariachi (I think) style music. I’m not sure when they started using the current opening, though. There are definitely movies where they don’t use it despite being classic Disney animation movies. Edit: originally thought it was Cinderella, but looked it up and is actually Pinocchio.

Not gonna lie, the THX sound scared the shit out of me as a kid. It was on, like, every DVD and I vividly remember trying desperately to skip it when watching movies in the car. It's ingrained in my memory as much as that "coming soon" message on all the disney dvd's

Now I really wanna hear someone do a violin arrangement of the THX sound (which is basically just a dude with a synth that has a portamento knob that goes to 9000)

As a Taiwanese, actually both Für Elise and Maiden’s Prayer are the garbage trucks’ music. And Für Elise is mostly played in the north and Maiden’s Prayer is mostly played in the south and few places in the north

@ishakak147 I'm in Taoyuan and the garbage trucks come by in the evening. So I hear the Maidens Prayer tune at the end of Mt workday in the office and again as I arrive at home on the days i manage to get there at the same as the trucks.

But both of them must be out of tune lol

no the two melodies are actually all garbage trucks' BGM. "Maiden's Prayer" (Eddie played) was used by a director of health, and "For Elise" was came from the garbage trucks we bought from German decades ago. so some old trucks still using For Elise, but mostly using Maiden's Prayer now. if you live in north or major cities you probably only hear Maiden's Prayer now. For Elise trucks are almost all gone. when i was a kid it was all For Elise no Maiden's Prayer lol

Jingles are the perfect thing to play this with because everyone knows them but they've been heard so many times that they just blend in with the background noise of life. So, super obvious once you hear them but frustrating to try and remember.
