In the comics it seems like (at least some times) the batarangs have a dull side and a sharp side, for hitting people and cutting not people, respectively.

i made my own using a hand controlled plasma cutter and a grinder, with a simple design that is a cross between the hush one and the 1989 one for simplicity. really not hard to do with decent tools and material that is half way to the right size

Personally, my favourite batterang is the one from Batman begins. Its small so multiple ones will fit into a pocket, pretty sharp and easy to throw with high precision.

My favorite Batarang would have to the Telltale design. The curves, the two holes, I just love it.

Something not discussed is the fact that, despite generally being called "Bat-a-rangs," there are two different design philosophies to be considered. The earliest Baterangs were impact weapons, based on the actual boomerang, and would, in fact, return when thrown but not hitting a target. In more "recent" versions, the Batarang has become more of a shuriken-style edged weapon.

Cool...I didn't realize how many Batarangs there were...although I was kind of hoping one of you would have picked the one from the 60's Batman TV show (variants of it were seen in many of hte 70's animated appearances of the character, particularly in the Superfriends series.)

I love the gotham design for the batarang, it's so good, I love the show so im also being very biased but it is actually a really good design!!!

Make gloves or suction cup things that let you climb walls

Other than using a metal detector to find lost batarangs, I do have a suggestion for you: UV paint. At night, a black light will make it super easy for you to find any hidden batarangs hiding under the bushes.
