I know a lot of people might already know this but just a few seconds after she says I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling you can actually see Bruno bobbing his head to the beat in the background on the balcony

My favorite part is 3:21, because it’s the culmination of everyone’s parts at the same time and the phrase “He’s here” is amazing because it refers to Mariano’s arrival for dinner but it’s also a reference to Bruno still being in the house with them.

After listening to just the lyric video for a while now, coming back to the actual version we hear in the movie, it’s crazy how the sound effects make a difference to the listening experience. I notice a lot more cloth or fabric sounds, sounds of footsteps, and other whooshes. All because it helps to ground the animation we see and give more energy to the movement on screen. Another thing worth mentioning, which is just good sound design, is that all of those extra foley sounds seem to happen in time with the beat to prevent unnecessary overlapping of sounds at the wrong times.

I love how Mirabel interprets Isabela's lyrics as Isabela talking about her current life of being "perfect", and scoffs at Isabela. When in reality Isabela's true desires are to express herself and be free from the expectations of always being perfect.

Honestly Dolores's part was one of, if not the best part of this song. Her quietness and the loud footsteps show how she hears everything so loud, making herself quieter so everyone else is a bit quieter.

Is nobody gonna talk about How good Camilo’s parts are? The way the voice actor uses dynamics in his limited parts are insane! For example, when he says “When he calls your name it all fades to black” the way his voice fades is just awesome. And then the minor detail that is majorly overlooked is when he says “Isabella your boyfriends here” his voice changes to an adult along with the animated character he is playing. Respect to him. Although, don’t forget everyone else who contributed to this hit song. An absolute masterpiece.

Kind of a sad song when you think about it. Bruno basically got rejected by his entire community just because he told them truths that they didn’t want to hear. Happens all to often in our world.

But really my main beef is that 3D almost always throws away line as a design element, which is one of my favorite design elements. There's nothing like some good line quality in a drawing, and 3D subordinates any kind of line to tone almost as a rule. You tend to see shapes and volumes but not line. Which is fine in some cases, but you do lose something by never using it. It's understandable why they'd do this. Line quality becomes a liability between artists if you're working together to make a single product the way they do. But if you go back to old Disney cartoons and ask yourself why they're appealing, some of that appeal is certainly linework.

​@NootNoot2504 2D peaked in the 90s with films like Lilo & Stitch and Emperor's New Groove. Just look at the background designs side to side and it's obvious. Even the incredibles you could say lived off of the strength of solid 2D shape design if you go back to their visdev. Going fully 3D ruined any sense of composition and from an image making standpoint it's just worse. Ultimately even if 3D, you're looking at a 2D image on a screen, so if you throw away respect for 2D image making, which I believe they have for economical reasons, the final product deteriorates.

at 2:25 "it's like i hear him" might be about hearing Mariano muttering to himself that he doesn’t want to marry Isabela (It can't be about hearing him approaching because Dolores sees him coming right before singing her line). During the proposal, Mariano and his mother show signs of hesitation. Abuela: "The Guzmans and the Madrigals would be so good for the encanto" Mariano's mother: "Yes, then let's hope tonight is not a horrible disaster" it's almost as if she's hoping there would be a horrible disaster so that proposal would be ruined (because she doesn't have courage to refuse Abuela). this might mean that she agrees with Abuela but another Madrigal, just not Isabela. After Agustin says Mariano should propose he hesitates and says "Um...I was actually gonna..." then Mirabel turns Isabela's chair towards him and he looks at his mother, unsure of what to do. His mother attempts to delay the proposal by saying, "Well, well, well, since everyone here has a talent, my Mariano wanted to begin with a song."

i love how every character has their own sound, especially how dolores' verse sounds more "simplified" with significant bass sound and her whispery voice stands out from the music more than other characters, like we're experiencing her super-hearing gift.

I havent even watched Encanto but anyway... Dolores and Camelo parts are the best, hands down. Its a pity they didnt get their own songs in those styles

This song is just visually and artistic appealing. The parts with Dolores and Camilo aren't amplified based on their gifts. With Dolores, the sound is enhanced, making the stomp much louder then they need to be, you're able to hear their clothes moving as they walk, and the maracas slowly playing in the background to represent the "falling sand". With Camilo as hes shape-shifting, the area changes alongside him as hues of green shine whenever he changed into Bruno, and the ground below him drops into sand. Its honestly engaging. And I have a theory that when Dolores is singing and when you see Bruno in the background, that it actually is him creeping throughout the house. And that's why the maracas are slowly playing in the background to imitate that sand-like sounds Dolores hears.

What’s also interesting is how Dolores talks about Bruno in the present tense in the song “I can always sorta hear him muttering or mumbling” and she reveals later in the movie that she knew he was living in the house the whole time. Just another neat little detail.
