This is amazing, but the structure seems like itd be prone to breaks. does the mod podge hold together the base that well?

Vor 2 Monate
Eric's Hobby Workshop
Eric's Hobby Workshop

@Stephen Hupfer a stone wall with no corners would be flimsy, but once you start having perpendicular wall sections it becomes very stable. Google “serpentine walls” and you will see this principle in action for getting around this problem when building long wall sections.

Good to know! I was referring to the pink foam brick base. I’ve never done a build where the bricks were free standing and it just seemed like it’d vulnerable. Going to definitely give this a try!

Vor 2 Monate

Which part do you think would break? Each brick is hot glued to 6 others. Its very stable and rigid, and not because of the mod podge

My friends and I built a whole city with that bricklaying technique about 12 years ago. Eventually I just switched to etching bricks into the foam, that was much easyer and faster. It also tended to last longer as the bricks had a tendency to crumble a bit.

Awesome build man. One tip for future video production quality that is cheap and easy is using a white foam core board as a bounce card for getting some light into the deep shadows on your face like around your eyes. This has an effect that works on the human mind that makes people feel like they can better see your sincerity when you’re doing things like saying thanks to viewers or asking for subscriptions and supporting on patreon. Hope that helps bro. Loved your video shouting out lesser known terrain builders! Keep doing what you do bro! Best of luck!!!

Hey Eric, great build. Subscribed already :) One question: how do you cut the square balsa wood? I assume these are NOT coffee stir sticks and wonder if a scissor or pliers are strong enough or do you use some kind of "mini saw"? Especially when it comes to cutting them in angles as could be seen in the medieval window section at around 8:54?? THX! Great video!

Vor 6 Monate

I have a mitre box that i use with a hobby saw to cut basswood, but balsa wood is soft enough to cut with a sharp knife 👍

Every brick deserves love!!!!! Awesome work, mate. Got me working on my own Mordheim stuff again. Very nice effect, especially the woodwork. If you want glass in some or all of those leaded windows, try acrylic gloss medium: set the mesh on wax paper and paint the medium in heavily and let it dry. Surface tension will keep it attached to the mesh. You can even stain it if you want. FYI, "basswood" is pronounced like the fish, not like a musical instrument.

Vor 7 Monate
Doug Sundseth
Doug Sundseth

@Eric's Hobby Workshop Depending on the viscosity of the gloss medium, you can also often "glass" the openings when the mesh is upright. But it can be a pain to keep it upright until the medium dries. If you lay the window down on wax paper, the look is a bit different but you don't have to worry about orientation. As to pronunciation, at least we're not talking about "Drow" (which rhymes with "bow" ... one way or another 8-) ).

Vor 6 Monate

Thanks Doug, sounds like a cool technique i will play around with that someday. As for pronunciation, I knew that once and somehow forgot while filming. Cheers

Amazing work Eric, love the different looks of the architecture you built into the three house fronts. It's just a fantastic building overall, great atmosphere and looks to have a ton of playable space. I think these building techniques would be of great use to people who aren't (or who don't have the space to be) building gaming terrain, but to make really nicely detailed "flats", like theatre backdrops, for taking really nice miniature photography and storing the pieces away.
