Putting it out there again: Dredd (2012)'s Slo-Mo FX! It's a lot of basic slow-motion, but they tweak it with VFX to such a pleasing and iconic aesthetic that it DESERVES to be reacted to!
Vor yearJA.Animation +63
Yes! This shots are probably pretty simple in terms of execution but standsm out purely due to great art direction
Vor yearTyler_BT +52
Think they already did it way back
Vor yearEric +33
They already did a couple years ago I think.
Vor yearBeergnome +10
YES! In fact the whole movie needs to be done. The effects in it are amazing.
Vor yearRobert Campbell +38
Funny thing, Gavin Free did the slow motion shots in Dredd, and they know him and already called him on an episode to talk about his work on Sherlock Holmes.
Vor yearmatthijs blomjous +622
what gets me in the breaking bad scene is the explosion itself. it's so realistic and raw, no intense fireballs or any of that stuff. just plain power and awesomeness
Vor yearSnow Fox +21
the door flying off is kinda cartoony to me, like they sped up the footage to make it faster kinda thing.
Vor yearmatthijs blomjous +6
@Snow Fox yea guess so, it made it look more powerful to me tho hahaha
Vor yearpistachiomatt +24
That’s because it was real
Vor yearTheGrimHHH +48
@Snow Fox It's not, it was a real practical explosion. You can find the making off of this scene with footage of the real explosion from different angles.

@Snow Fox doors are heavy and explosives are very strong

Yes!! I remember watching those scenes in the Witcher and praying you guys would break it down. My brain kept going “That’s CG! Wait, it’s not CG, no, that’s CG! Wait? That’s not CG?” Glad to finally have some closure 😂.
Vor yearAustin Entertainment +63
I would love to see y’all discuss the hunger games! As the series progressed, the cgi became better and better. Additionally, much of the cgi was creating environments which were very stylized, and I would love to hear y’all discuss how to create convincing environments while keeping a specific style
Vor yearEdward M +2
The 2nd one was filmed partially at the Atlanta Beach, which was an artificial beach constructed for the 96 Olympics, to have the circular beach in the arena. The VFX in those shots is incredible, I think the only thing that isn't created is the beach itself. The entire background and I'm sure lots of the stuff in the water is CG.
Vor yearethai1 +513
I'd like to see you guys react to: -Silent Hill (2006) - the otherworld transitions, and Monsters designs -Sam Raimi's Spider man 1 and 3 (sandman effects, Venom and symbiote effects) This one is more of a technical question, but in Spiderman No Way Home, they obviously reused footage of the lizard and Sandman from their original films. But they had different effects, which requires, I assume, the original footage that was caught on camera. Is it common practice to save raw footage for that long? Edit: I can't believe I forgot this but also in Silent Hill there's a scene with dark Alessa hugging Rose and then just kinda "integrates" herself into her.
Vor yearMonika +8
Especially since the monsters were practical effects and were guys in monster makeup.
Vor yearethai1 +1
@Monika I especially remember one which had his legs covered in green tights which were then cut off
Vor yearParzival +6
Technically speaking that kind of effect can be done without the raw footage, but regardless it does look like they used said raw footage to achieve the best look possible. Film and video are rarely discarded for major productions nowadays and are almost always archived. The shot they used for Lizard wasn’t even in the original film it was an unused take from a different angle.
Vor yearPNW Affliction
Silent Hill nurse dancing!!!
Vor yearethai1 +2
@Parzival Ok, but the shot where they used Sandman turning back to his human form was almost clearly the same one where in the original film his hand was turning to mud. I assume they'd had to use the raw footage for this, no? And that's from 2007 or even 2006, when it was filmed.
Vor yearNoriMori +11
I watched a 25-minute feature about how they did the explosion scene in Breaking Bad, the practical effects alone are so impressive. Also they did _19 takes_ of the panning shot after Gus walks out of the room! That's how many it took before Vince was satisfied. And then, when he reviewed them without knowing which takes were which, that 19th take is the one he ended up choosing.
Vor 5 MonateDystopia
Just shows how perfectionism pays off!
Vor 4 MonateAidan Zieres +32
Ahhh, I'm so disappointed they didn't talk about the VFX that needed to be done to cover the track in Gus's last shot. They had to digitally replace the debris on the floor in order to cover the camera track. That was also a very impressive feat.
Vor yearVladan +8
Overall I'd say VFX artists don't get enough recognition and respect, they are as important as actors. Truly a work of art!
Vor yearRishi +1
The effects work is great on the Breaking Bad Gus shot, but the building up takes it to another level. The reveal of him walking there with the good side of his face showing makes you think he survived. But then as you hear the shrieks of the nurses you see that he’s now missing face his face and one of the greatest villains I’ve seen goes out with a bang like none other.

That gus scene, when I first saw it, gave me a heart attack. So convincing. So realistic.
Vor yearNathan Haines +2
The heart attack from me was knowing he *had* to be dead, and then seeing him walk out. Impossible! There's no *way* he could've survived! But, if anyone *could* have, it would be Gus... And there was nothing else in the show to suggest that kind of VFX budget. It was absolutely amazing filmmaking.

The Expanse. Masterful practical + digital effects throughout the whole series, immersing the audience in zero gravity. Nivellen was SO well-done in that Witcher season 2 episode. Could’ve fooled me that it was all prosthetics, but nope, the whole face is CG. Now that’s some masterful VFX work that doesn’t overdo it while also allowing the actor to not be bothered by makeup and prosthetics for his facial performance. Also, Kristofer Hivju did it brilliantly. But man, is it weird to see him cleanly shaved after seeing him with a full beard for so long, lol

Vor yearIain McClatchie +1
The lip movements didn't look right. His lips needed to form a momentary seal when he speaks a "p". That's not actually possible when you have adjacent exposed teeth (in this case going both up and down). Nivellen's lips don't conform around his teeth, and we expect to see that when he talks. I realize it's a lot of work, but lips don't just go up and down when we talk. They are so agile that deaf people can tell what you are saying from looking at your lips! Watch Nivellen again -- you can't do that, his lips are too stiff. Human lips are more compliant, and we actively use our teeth to support them. People missing front teeth have speech impediments that you can hear. There's another problem, which is that teeth can't be exposed all the time, because they'd dry out and then shatter. Water isn't enough -- dentin requires saliva to maintain toughness and mend microfractures. Even the big canines of a lion or tiger or the protruding lowers of a hippo are covered and kept wet by loose lips that fold over them nearly all the time. These long lips are pulled back when fighting or eating, leading to the characteristic wrinkles that we associate with fierceness.

Matrix bullet scene: you guys can't imagine the amount of versions have been done just to make the sparks look like what Lana wanted. Also, in my opinion, the Analyst wasn't supposed to look smeary like in the first movie. He is not an agent, just a matter of director's taste, different time-zones and looks. At least you didn't say anything about Neo's CG hair and coat! :D
Vor yearRon Thomson
I'm almost 65 and love what you guys do. A brief history, I was part of of a improv group in high school and eventually ended up in Second City Toronto. The Breaking Bad scene is what finally made me watch the show. I kept seeing the ending of each episode on recordings of other shows I was watching, but never watched the show because I could not see how a show about a Meth dealer could be good. Then I saw him walk out of a room, with half his face blown off, and I said "Okay... I have to see what leads up to this." I am so glad I finally watched the show.

I didn't realize how intense those mirror effects were in the new Matrix. A The new Candyman has really great mirror shots throughout and some pretty decent stunt work. That's one that could have some solid reactions from a vfx and stuntwork perspective.
Vor yearAngélica Marie
Y'all need to react to Chronicle, the story of 3 teenagers that get telekinesis and it's completely told through POV from the camera of the protagonist (it changes pov from different cameras, security cameras and phone) it is never showed like a regular movie. Looks realistic and awesome.

Fun idea for a video really just for my own reference. Perhaps a corridor special episode where the best lessons on each VFX artist react is grouped almost like Clint’s VFX 101 video form like 8 years ago that still slaps but grouped together with some of the best examples from the show, maybe an Example of the VFX technique/tool being used effectively as well as ineffectively and why and how it could be better! I love going back through the VFX artist react playlist or keyword searching to find , what was that method they used? and how did they do that shot?!! So I think it would be like a vfx Encyclopedia!!!! Might be a big task for the editors to go through the hundreds of episodes but it will be a great resource to humanity as a whole :) :)

Hello! I have a suggestion for a breakdown. I’m not too sure if this qualifies as VFX, but here goes: I was just watching an episode of the korean drama “Mr. Sunshine”. I could not stop feeling that everything just “looks so fake”. Nothing looks like it’s actually taking place in a real location, and this is no matter what scene i take. I can’t put my finger on it, and it’s killing me!! I would LOVE an expert’s take.

I think the difference between the NPH bullet time versus the original bullet time, is that we're seeing things from NPH's perspective where he is the one moving (and perceiving) fast, instead of from Neo's perspective being slower observing something moving fast. So it does make some sense to look different. Note, I haven't seen the movie.
Vor yearÓli Karló Steinsson
Throwing it into the cosmos again. Bunraku (2011) sports many big names and the aesthetic is of the charts. A criminally underated movie. The set, stunts, camera work. I would recommend it's version of the "Hallway scene"
Vor yearAuron1Roxas2 +72
The framerate is supposed to be different in the train scene because Neo is being affected by the red pill. We're seeing things from his perspective. The bullet time wouldn't look the same as the agents because the analyst isn't doing the exact same thing as the agents. He's not really moving faster, he's slowing down the matrix itself. That's why Neo and Trinity can understand him and why Neo is having such a hard time with it.
Vor yearddevil +18

@ddevil Yeah, I don't know why we're defending it. It's completely terrible and I think it's just offensive to the last films. It doesn't even look like a Matrix film anymore! It looks like some confused hollywood ****. None of the prior aesthetics. The Corridoor Crew were SPOT ON

Vor yearRetroRad +8
It IS the intended result and Its so frustrating that they don't realize it. It's a stylized attempt at portraying latency in like an online video game. Vor yearMark Colville +10
@RetroRad The mismatched framerate is the intended part, the terrible rotoscoping, bad exposure and lighting is not the intended part. Unless the goal is to make it look like low budget cgi, in which case they succeeded.

And Dom & Nic/The Chemical Brothers "Believe" (2005) - some sweet compositing there. Love you guys, keep it up.

Hey guys, you should do 1988s "The Blob". There were some amazing scenes utilizing practical effects that I would love to see breakdowns for!

This has to be one of the best youtube shows of them all. It's so interesting, entertaining and educational, to boot. Many props and my best wishes to you all, Corridor Crew! 🙏

I'd love to see your guys opinions on No Way Home (if we're past the point of spoilers being an issue). But, also the Book of Boba Fett once the season finishes! Lots of great stuff in that show that I'd love to see explained :)

I know you guys have reviewed the movie before but not the opening scene of Revenge of the sixth, I think to this day the lighting in that scene is incredible and for it’s time it holds ups so well So does general grebvious that one, that one shot where he’s walking spinning all 4 lightsabers with the sparks

I would love to see your guys' take on the vfx in Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City because some of them (namely Birkin's final G-Virus form) look a little bit off and would like to hear how you might do it better, as well as some of the other vfx in the movie because some of them look solid. Just try not to think about how wrong they did Leon in it.

Since you reviewed NPH Bullet Time and showed Witcher S2, I thought you would parallel how well they did the disjointed movement of the Bruxa with how they handled NPH

I would love to see you guys react to the Expanse, the show's final episode just aired and it has one of the greatest cgi battles I've ever seen

For stuntmen texts y’all should react to the end fight of an apex animated short called Gridiron, it had some insanely well done choreography!

You guys have to look at the new Peacemaker series. The eagle (Eagly) has got to be some of the best animal CGI I've ever seen.

Hey, have you guys ever looked into the practical effects of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? There's very little CG in it, so it'd be a lot of fun to explore the "how did they do that?!" effects!
