Team USA took on Japan for the 2023 World Baseball Classic Championship. Fireworks started early as Trea Turner hit a solo home run in the second to start the scoring. Munetaka Murakami would answer with a solo home run of his own. Kazuma Okamoto would hit a solo home run of his own in the fourth inning and Japan would take a 3-1 lead. In the 8th inning, Kyle Schwarber gave the USA some hope as he launched a solo home run. Shohei Ohtani would enter in the ninth inning where he would strike out his teammate, Mike Trout to end the game and Japan won the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

Let's be real here. Japan, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, etc...all played their best players from their countries. Meanwhile, USA, didn't!!!. USA had the worst pitching roster because many of the owners refused to allow the best pitchers in the world from America to compete in this tournament. Imagine if the USA team had Max Scherzer, Jason Verlander, Gerrit Cole, Clayton Kershaw, Max Fried, Walker Buehler, Jacob DeGrom, Trevor Bauer, Zach Wheeler, Corbin Burnes, Aaron Nola, etc...14 out of the Top 25 MLB pitchers were Americans and not a single one played in this event. The other 11 of the Top 25 were from other countries and everyone of them played for their countries. In addition, all of the USA top Closers, which USA has the top 6 out of 7 closers in MLB, not a single one played in the World Baseball Classic. Also, where was Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Freddy Freeman, Austin Riley, etc??? That's just to put things into perspective

In Japanese professional baseball before the season, teams are divided into allies and foes (red-and-white games).I wonder if MLB doesn't have that?

@FreedomFighter2112 Well, you have to understand there's a reason for not letting these players you mentioned. 1. Owners don't want to risk injury. 2. Players don't want to risk injury. 3. They're thinking long term instead of short term. I can understand where you're coming from. P.S. - Who is Jason Verlander?

That's just to put things into perspective!!!

That fact is absolutely true. But it doesn’t degrade this wonderful WBC at all. It is all the players in the ground including Americans who competed and made this tournament, not the players you listed. The fact that the games themselves were so exciting is also true. You should respect them.

Absolutely great game! Both teams were stacked! I won't lie, I thought USA had it but good game. Trout is still the best in today's game. Shohei is great too. Hopefully Trout goes to another organization because he deserves to compete. He's to great to just never make the playoffs. Either the Angels need to really step up or they need to let Shohei and Trout walk and get traded or sign elsewhere.

Thank you for your hard work, players from both countries! And thank you for the wonderful game! In the game the day before yesterday, the commentator said " The player's heart has become a baseball boy!" At that time, I was impressed that I thought, "baseball players all over the world are baseball boys who love baseball, regardless of which country they are from which country they are from or which country they represent." I applaud the great players👏🏻From Japanese Hawks fans. I'm sorry if the translation is wrong.

The only reason this international tournament became popular is because its 1 game knockout...nobody wants to see these teams plat 4-7 games to prove who is better. American sports playoffs are such a snooze fest and it reallly only benifits team owners because tickets are sold at higher price than usual. American playoff sport culture is so bizzare except the NFL who do a one game knockout in playoffs. Baseball is already boring imagine having to see 7 games lol
Vor 2 MonateTahzib Hussaini
instead of 7 games, they could do a 2 game home-away system with aggregate points like they do in football (not the eggball)....and if they r tied then the away team goes thru if they scored more, or else we go xtra innings....

@FreedomFighter2112 You are right! Still -- both were great teams and Japan/Mexico semi and this final were fun to watch. Yeah, I was hoping the US would win. What you're saying happens all the time in any international hockey tournaments. Over the years, Canada never seems to put their very best players in there (or they choose not to play) and you could have a Canada A, B, C, D and E squad and any one of them should win it. Teams from Europe always put their very best together. Unfortunately after watching these guys enough, you can tell there's extra effort by these players when they play for their county. Wish they would always play like that for their pro teams, but it doesn't happen MOST of of time. BTW -- Assuming you support the Trucker Convoy??? Good for you. I was at Coutts supporting the fight against the dictators.

Guys from both teams are crazy, choosing this tournament over the regular season.
