An amazing song off of a fantastic album that represents the growth and development of U2. This song has stayed with me since the first time I’ve ever heard it. It gives off a wonderfully eerie-goose bumps inducing feeling! The fact that “The Joshua Tree” followed after this, makes an even more tasty bit of music!

1984. This record was way ahead of time. Sounds great in 2021. Played every song into pieces. Brilliant and for my taste far better than Joshua Tree which still was good :)

Interestingly ive never seen this music video before, in Australia we have a music video program called Rage and whenever they played this song it was always accompanied by footage of the band recording in the studio at the castle they recorded all this at which appears on the cover of the album.

My father took me in 1982 to Hattem (NL). There was a small pop festival every year (we lived in the area). My dad heard there would be a new band from Dublin we should go to watch. That band was U2. Until my dad died in 2000 we visited every tour together. Since then I visited every tour by myself at least once. This is the song by U2 I love the most. The song I will always write down if asked in a bar which song I would like to hear. The song you know that should be played at your funeral.

I’m 49 and have been a U2 fan since the early/mid-‘80s; I’ve seen them live nine times, from 1992 to 2015. I’ve recently changed my outlook about what I think their “best” album is, and it occurs to me that it’s not just one. You have to view Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby as a sort of trilogy that represents the absolute apex of their output. Yes, they have some great music that came out both before and after that timeframe, but those three albums are masterpieces that utterly define the band and show their music to be magnificent beyond the sum of its parts.

Another underrated song off that title track album that should’ve been a single is ‘Wire’. I love that song to death and it comes close to TUF in brilliance. Only once publicly used in an episode of Miami Vice, but Wire is has this brilliant fast pace guitar delay intro with funky baseline and drums. The song is about heroin abuse unfortunately, but it should’ve been played more in U2’s live sets. Please for the love of god guys, play Wire in your future sets!!!

I found U2 in my junior year high school. My dad had just past and I was alone at home with my mom. I bought unforgettable fire album on cassette and listened to it constantly. It got me through some tough times in life and hearing now at mid life brings back so many lovely memories.
