If you want to run over the road in the states, pretty much any big trucking company will train you. If you go to school oh your own dime it will cost at least a few thousand for a good school plus you will have living expenses.

I've been driving for over 20 years and yes I have leg issues. I get cramps, numbness, tingling in my feet when I'm trying to sleep and sometimes I can't sleep because I feel like ants are crawling on my legs. That comes from years of 8-10 hrs of driving without stopping. I still have trouble stopping until I'm either loaded or empty, but I pull flatbed so I do get a lot of exercise.

As a tech at a freightliner dealer, I have such respect for drivers that keep their trucks clean. Seeing that they care, makes me care. Some trucks make me wonder how some drivers live

I try to make sure I'm somewhere close to fishing. Clean half a day and then go fishing. Also...quick tip...if you run no more than 8:46 minutes a day...you can run recaps. I ran 3 months straight with no reset that way. Good video!!

Tip: if you have rubber floors: like I did in my Columbia , I would heat up water in my hot water heater and then pour boiling hot water on the floor, mix it with soap and then use a small brush. U clean one small 2x2 section at a time. Clean and move. Clean and move. Next thing you know your floor is spotless. Use a towel (not one u stole from pilot) 😆 and wipe up the floor.

Technically you could keep driving, just depends on your route and how you manage your hrs. Would usually run 3-4 week's straight without needing a reset all legally. No I'm not running a double log or at anytime illegal. Just manage your hrs and routes and you have some extra time.

When I was ptr i had a log book for everyday of the week. Slept about 4 hours a night and was on time every time. 1 year otr got me local work and was quite the experience ALWAYS BE SAFE AND KEEP THE SHINY SIDE UP

I was considering a full time job as a trucker, it’s pretty intemidating to see some of the older model trucks that have a ton of buttons, but this truck doesn’t look too far off from what you would find in a modern car

That depends if your driving a big nose truck those are long hauls the work truck we use has less buttons

Get a boar's hair brush (or comparable soft, long-haired brush) and literally ANY interior spray... it will cut the time it takes to do your console by 75%

That’s what I would do and every 3-4 weeks I would have my dispatch send me to some place in the great US I wanted to spend time in, and I would take 3 days off and enjoy myself! Sometimes my hubby would meet up with me and we would drive in tandem! We actually made more money running solo instead of team so that’s what we did! It was a great experience for me until I caught a little case of cancer. I’ve beat it, but the chemo took its toll on me and maybe one day I’ll be a driver again… either way, I’ll stay In the industry! :)

70/week?! When I was a kid (not that long ago, since I'm only 22 now), my parents had a couple friends who were career drivers. They would work 3 weeks out of the month, and spend the last week at home. They'd also drive 12-16 hours each of the 7 days per week. I dont know if the laws have changed, or if they had more leeway due to their experience (both had been driving for 20+ years), but 10 hours per day doesn't sound like much.

As a transportation supervisor I'd like to applaud you for actually CLEANING your tractor. The $ my company spends on just cleaning out the slip seat tractors we have is ridiculous. We had to hire a FULL TIME detailing position just to keep them road worthy.

I can't stand a nasty truck or dirty windows. My boss will literally fire a driver if he sees the inside of his truck really nasty. We drive older Peterbilt 379's but they're all like new and that's why.

One piece of advice I give out freely and often, keep your rig clean inside and out. I believe when an inspector sees a dirty truck, especially the inside, dirty and disorganized the instructor will be tougher on the driver. Its because a messy truck equals an I don't care attitude.

I’m a DOT inspector and this dude is 100% right, at least for me deciding on what level inspection you’re going through. I walk up on this truck and you’re out in 10 minutes with a level 3.

My old man use to truck interstate. He would be away from home for 2 weeks at a time. The rigs are always bad ass and I grew a respect for them.

When I drove OTR it was called a reset, and I usually made my way home for my resets.

There are a few things wrong with this. 1st, you can legally work more than 70 hrs, you can’t drive more than 70 hrs. 2nd, a 34 hr reset isn’t mandatory, you can run on recap’s. 3rd, legally, cleaning your truck is supposed to be logged on duty not driving.

The other train of thought is limit your Line 3 and 4 too 8 hours 45 minutes a day, That's 500 plus miles a day, never reset your clock. That's 3500 miles a weeks. AND 15 hours and 15 minutes a day to eat, shower and do laundry, clean truck everyday or whenever you want. Start your clock a Midnight, your shouting down 9 or 10 in the A.M. I'll put the cleanliness of my truck up against anyone's.

LOL if you work for a company based in Mexico you can work 100 hours a week and no drug testing

This guy should be training and enforcing trucker standards. I’m super impressed by his professionalism. Especially his driving when other truckers are being daring and careless and selfish.

If I were a trucker, I would pay attention to the cleanliness of the interior. It's hard to not be bothered by the dust specks all over the dashboard when you're spending north of 10 hours every day driving. That being said, cleaning it for 2 hrs every week might still be a lot for me as I'm lazy in nature. I won't mind spending 3 hrs or 4 hrs cleaning if it were a one time thingy or once every two months. But I definitely won't stand every week.

What’s you choice of protection when on the road?

Run recaps and you will never have to stop , I run everyday I went 6 months without a 34 hour break unless I just wanted to take one.

I use to take a 34 hour reset every 5 or 6 days. At 14 hours a day you can total out 70 hours in 5 days.

You don't have to take a 34. As long as you have hrs coming back at midnight on the 7th day you're good to keep on trucking!
