I get what he's trying to say, and I truely appreciate his sentiment. But as it stands I don't like the word, I don't use the word, and admittedly yeah I wouldn't bat an eye at a person of color using the word vs someone who is white. Is that a double standard? Sure. But maybe some double standards aren't the worst thing in the world, not everything is clear cut. For me personally, I know that word hurts a lot of people, and I'd prefer to leave it out of my vocabulary.
Vor 24 TageJesseKWB
@BatgirlGamer That's not what I'm suggesting. Offense isn't a choice. However, presenting that offense is a choice. And I'm not even saying people should use the word, all I'm saying is if you are offended by the word, it shouldn't matter from which race the person saying it is. It should still be offensive. Otherwise, it's racist. If someone doesn't conform to that, and doesn't get offended when someone of a specific race says it, then maybe just hide that, and pretend like you are offended. Racism isn't a choice, however, presenting it is, and it sucks when people present it.
Vor 16 StundenBatgirlGamer
@JesseKWB I'm not saying it's right... or that it doesn't appear racist... I don't even use the word... I'm only stating why people aren't as offended when it's someone of the same race.... no matter what is said, ("I hate you" "you suck" "you stink" "nobody loves you" "you are pretty" "you have a nice body") In the end it's up to that person to decide if they are offended, angry, happy, or want to fight after it's said... everyone CAN use the word... nobody is holding lips... be prepared to face the consequences of what is said.... This will never be a perfect world where nobody will be offended by words..

The word is informed by a lot of history and context. It is different when a white person says it vs a black person because the the meaning and history behind it. Ultimately, like all words, it depends on how you use it and who you use it with. Context is everything.

I grew up in south central LA, this area is particularly known for being āhoodā or ghetto. Iām Hispanic and grew up around a lot of black ppl. Iāve never had a situation where a black person told me not so say it. I will say this, in professional settings, the word is slang and doesnāt come off as a āwell educated intellectualā by throwing slang. Other than that if you are not from the hood and you do not carry the āumphā (Hood dialect) to talk the talk. You will come off cringy and a wannabe. My two cents is if your environment doesnāt use it then keep it to yourself. P.s once was too comfortable saying in front of a black stranger who was more persay āmore fortunateā and wasnāt hood. After I said the word I could just feel the awkwardness in how he looked at me and the vibes were all bad. Everyone grows up differently read the ppl and read the room. Although my hood side of will say with me forever I prefer to come off as respectable rather than ratchet.

I use the n-word sometimes (not often at all) but I do have a n-word pass so itās completely ok for me to use it. still canāt go around saying it all the time, itās very disrespectful. Everyone who got a legitimate n-word pass knows when and how to use that word. When I went to the n-word course a couple years ago our teacher actually told us that: āwith great power comes great responsibilityā just because we are allowed to use the n-word doesnāt mean that we should. If you want to get a n-word pass yourself I just want you to know that itās very hard. The course is one week long and there are so many rules to learn. At the end there is this big test. now if you fail this test then youāre screwed, you wonāt get a second chance. Getting a n-word pass is a once in a lifetime opportunity. So you better practice hard. And remember: after getting your n-word pass, if youāre caught using it in a inappropriate way, your pass will get taken away and you aināt ever getting it back.

Facts, you yourself, give words power, its just like how some people say ( i love you ) to your face while texting the person they are cheating on you with at the exact same second!! Someone calls someone stupid that person has the choice of how powerful that is, is it powerful enough for that person to get assault charges some people yes some people no
Vor 24 TageMaggie Markham
Oof. As a white person I feel what Tylerās saying about giving words power, and I also feel zero desire to say that word because I understand how it hits some people and to me itās a matter of respecting their boundaries and personhood. I feel it aināt my role or business to say it. Almost like using a word I donāt fully understand the meaning of. It feels tone deaf to me when white people say this and my tummy turns. Maybe that is me keeping the power and negative connotation of the word intact. But I feelā¦it aināt my word to reclaim! I feel this is something for black people to say and reclaim yāallās sense of empowerment, and itās a chance for us white people to learn a lesson about respect and sitting back and not getting to claim everything as our own.
Vor 3 Tagetootz
I don't understand how not using a word or thinking other people shouldn't use it is giving a word power. It's a matter of respect. You not using that word tells me that you respect me as a human being and my boundaries as a black person in a society that is very much anti-black, and I can respect you because of that. Now if I were to become upset and angry every time I heard a white person use the word, THAT would be giving it power because I'm letting a word affect my mood. Random people you don't know should never affect you in the first place honestly, but finding out someone you know has 0 respect for you/your history would probably make you angry and rightfully so. I think everyone tries too simplify the matter too much when it actually is already not that complex. Considering the horrific history of the word and the consequences black people still have to face because of it, it's inappropriate for non-black people to use the word, same as it would be inappropriate to make a joke about someone's dead mother, even if they had made a joke about it first.

@loose change either everyone says it or Noone says it. It's inherently racist if only one race of people can say a word. The point isn't being allowed to say it, it's moving past the previous connotation of the word that is no longer commonly used. If someone is being racist, their being racist with their actions and word combinations. One single word isn't and can't be racist. Freeing the word from its horrid past won't make more people racist, it will do the opposite. There will no longer be tension or hatred surrounding it. The issue is marginalizing certain sets of people. You're being racist if you say white people can't say a word and black people can. You're not treating everyone as if they're just people, that's racist.

It's interesting because one of my mom's elementary school students said the n word and in response a white girl said it asking what it meant. It was a complicated situation because she had to reach out to both families very differently. To the black child's parents she had to express that she punished him not for choosing to use that word, but for cussing at school. To the white child's parents she had to explain that the girl had no mean intention using the word because her parents were absolutely appalled. Meanwhile, gossip had spread about a white child saying the n word in her class and other parents were freaking out about their children being in a discriminatory environment. Ultimately, my mom had to send a group email to all of the parents in the class explaining the situation and expressing that no cussing from any student would be tolerated because they're in fifth grade.

To some people cap may be a hat or something that goes on top of something, but it can also be used as a liar. āThatās cap!ā thatās a lie āput that cap on the bottle!ā Just how the n word can be used like this. Black person to their friend: Nigga watch out. That would be used in a joking term. It shows the relationship with on another. White person to black person: nigga watch out. That is used in a prejudice way. Just because you may think of the word as something else doesnāt mean that other people think of it that way. Itās the intent behind words that matter. And how you receive that intent that makes the difference. I think it feels different every time.

@wisdom abdul aziz I guess it depends on who you are cause truly not everybody is the same I could careless if anyone says the word because I know it doesnāt pay my bills nor effect my daily life see Iām black and feel a lot of the new generationās get mad at the n word they do it off of the fact that itās anger passed down through family and never really experienced the hurt that they ancestors felt some people use it to hurt other but you can tell when however a lot of the black community just likes to get made when every other race uses it even when itās on the same friendly terms as other black folks. It is weird and you do give curtain word power

@AshyWashy what group of people? im addressing everyone that watches the news. so iām stereotyping them??? that was a very bad take .
Vor 23 TageCryaofoxe
I had a pretty bad experience with it lol, I accidentally let the word slip when I was making a joke "n-word whatttt?", and it was like in a call with some ppl I knew and they all got mad at me saying I can't say that and it's offensive but like they were all yelling at me, funny part about it, none of em were even black

Vor MonatMandingoOfHaiti
@AntsDeathmatch Inc. You're confusing being a Judaist vs being Jewish. What's more is that you're claiming I lack common sense when in fact there are genetic markers for being Jewish on DNA tests. Yeah, any race can be a Judaist, but they are not ethnically Jewish. A majority of Jews think being Jewish is predominantly a matter of ancestry and culture. Which is why I said Larry is an ethnic Jew.
Vor 15 TageAntsDeathmatch Inc.
@MandingoOfHaiti that makes no sense. You can be any color of the spectrum and still be a jew. You can be any race and still practice Judaism. You just need thicker skin, or more common sense... which is it?
Vor 15 TageMandingoOfHaiti
@AntsDeathmatch Inc. You replied to my comment first, now it seems like you're backpedaling because you're afraid to admit you were wrong about this lmao. I'm not even offended, I'm educating the people out there who confuse Jews with actual caucasian people. Just because his skin is light doesn't mean he's white. He's still ethnically Jewish.
Vor 15 TageAntsDeathmatch Inc.
@MandingoOfHaiti don't care enough to discuss this with you. All I said was you don't need to be tan to be a jew. If that offends you then grow thicker skin.
Vor 16 TageMandingoOfHaiti
@AntsDeathmatch Inc. Wrong, explain all the Israelites who claim to be atheist or not even practice Judaism. Larry King was the child of Jewish parents who migrated from Belarus to avoid the invasion of Nazi Germany. What's more is if you look at any official DNA test, there's always a descriptor called Ashkenazi that defines "white" Jews and separates them from middle eastern Hebrew tribe descendants. You do not need to practice Judaism to be Jewish, many Jews in America are agnostic or atheist. They are not related to the Anglo (British) whites who settled in America.

Here's the thing that baffles me you would rather have a word be offensive than letting it be seen as loving or endering you give words power just like Tyler said let that sink in your small brain for a sec

Y'all in the comments really making fun of a lot more people than you think you are š Christians ain't the only ones who believe in a god or gods. I get that it's just a joke but you're low key disrespecting Muslims, Jewish ppl, Hindus, and plenty of other groups that all make up a lot of the world's population. The concept and practice of worshipping deities has been a part of human nature and culture for a long ass time and it has been the cause of so many wars and events in history because people of all groups just don't want to learn to respect each other's beliefs. I'm not even a religious person myself but I still that making fun someone for believing in "a man in the clouds" is somewhat ignorant. Religion is just one of those things we should probably stay away from joking about unless you're part of that group

When I am subjected to racism i never find it offensive, i just find it funny. I was taught to find it offensive but i just don't care. Edit - unless they get physical then it's another ball game.
