The thing with twitch is that the ads make you miss a ton of content. You could miss a joke or the final match of a tournament and you can’t rewind.
Vor 11 Monatehoney sweet +58
true,,,,
Vor 11 MonateMoxie Havok +730
yeah all they need is a rewind feature and then the ads wouldn't be that bad or some option to pause the content during ads, and then watching at 1.25x speed until you catch back up.
Vor 11 MonateNadzrul Azim +418
they should add reminder to streamer that an ad will play soon so streamer can stop or take a break while the ad run
Vor 11 Monateikkue +223
@Moxie Havok This exactly. Give me the option to rewind the stream and change playback speed right in the livestream like on YouTube. Not having to go to the Videos tab of that channel and click on the VOD of that livestream which doesn't even update its length until you refresh it again.
Vor 11 MonateOGICEY +30
@Nadzrul Azim they do have this but only if the creator has the twitch “creator manager” tab open.

Little add on: a Big part of the issue with the x min of adds per hour is also that they’re automated so they’ll interrupt a stream at bad times with the creators not having any control of when it’ll happen which will ruin the experience for everyone involved… (as I understand it at least)
Vor 11 MonateGrace +2
Streamers can preemptively run ads when it's more convenient for them and that will cancel the next ad break from what I've heard

My biggest issue with Shorts is not knowing how they effect other videos you post. Because a short does really badly, does that mean my next youtube video is gonna do badly? Similar to how if a regular video does badly, the algorithm is less likely to push your next video, or what I've experienced in the past.

Vor 11 MonateSaiegel +4
Good to see that Mogul Mail is growing so well. Love the format. Now on twitch issues with the apps, why don't they add a feature that notify the streamers when the ads are going to start and this way the can take a break and not interrupt the stream for everyone that is watching at that time.
Vor 11 MonateMrEshah
Unless the streamer pushes the show ads button themselves, everyone watching are going to get the ads on different time. Fairly sure it's a "amount of time watched" trigger that pushes mid-rolls on viewers.
Vor 11 MonateJ W +11
1 mil subs in a year is a great accomplishment. Keep doing what you're doing, the content is amazing.
Vor 11 MonateMacAndSteez +8
I think if streamers included the ad structure into their stream format this could really incentivize people to subscribe/ get turbo. For the duration of the ads the streamer could momentarily pause the activity they are doing & the ad break could be used to actively chat & interact with the chatters for the whole time. Subscribers feel better cause they get to interact with the streamer, non subs feel better cause they’re not missing out on content, and twitch is happy because money. Basically just turn the ad time into community & chat time.
Vor 11 MonateMoneyOnSquirtle +2
This seems like a good idea until you actually try to do it. To tailor literally everything you do on stream to ads makes the content suffer. There are very few forms of content this actually could work alongside.
Vor 11 MonateR - G - C
Let's say you are fighting an intense boss battle, and someone in chat says there's an ad, well you pause the game and start chatting with your chat, and after the ad, you continue fighting the boss battle like nothing happened, it isn't gonna affect much anyway.
Vor 10 MonateMacAndSteez
@R - G - C I more so mean that if streamers are given the option of when the ad break takes place they can strategicly place it during the less important parts of the stream or after something important. For example they could put it right after the boss fight, shoot the shit with subscribed chatters for a couple minutes, while non subs just chill out & watch some ads knowing they’re not really missing out on any content.
Vor 10 MonateMoneyOnSquirtle
@MacAndSteez Youre given options pre stream, and can manually place them during stream but what if you cant pause the game? I literally deal with this on a daily basis.
Vor 10 MonateMacAndSteez
@MoneyOnSquirtle oh okay cool so then how do you go about deciding when you want to take an ad break? What do you do during that time?

I've always found it odd that Twitch makes you watch an ad when you enter a stream. Seems like it would discourage people from giving something a chance or browsing around if they know they'll immediately have to watch an ad.

To grow I'd suggest twitch and using shorts and tiktoks to announce you're live, YouTube isn't friendly to new players in the field for growth, twitch is pretty friendly and tiktok is very friendly, use twitch and tiktok to build an audience that you then bleed into YouTube, YouTube being the end goal for "stable" growth I'd say, but if you are doing exceptional on a platform I'd focus on that one

The issue with the twitch ads is almost every person I know would just simply not watch twitch and would instead watch clips from other platforms to get the experience they want without ads and then have a small number of creators they sub to. Netflix and other streaming services first got popular by a lack of ads and huge selection but now there’s so many content platforms with their own “premium” that people don’t want to pay for a billion things. I think the better option would be to have the creators start running less intrusive ads such as the minibar pop ups that YouTube uses, maybe chat ads that will scroll with chat (although I don’t like the idea of chat clutter), and optional banner or bar ad placements for the creator that would take up space in their descriptors below the stream. Include the occasional midroll or whatever but don’t increase it to 5+ minutes where it takes so much time that most people will get distracted or move to another platform or activity. To be clear these aren’t amazing ideas by any means but they’re different ideas that come from a consumer who generally only watches twitch clips or my 2 streamers I’ve chosen for the month 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Vor 11 Monatenbi
i dont go on twitch for a number of reasons, but one of the big ones is how intrusive the ads are. now that i know some creators can make up to 43k an hour i dont feel AS bad about how intrusive they are.
Vor 11 MonateTheCowboyFromCali +1
Instead of Twitch Turbo, I've just been using like 3 different adblockers made specifically for twitch. However, the second they released this info and "ad incentive" to creators, all of my adblockers stopped working. They are actively fighting your ability to consume content for free. YouTube might end up being the preferred streaming site if Twitch sets a bad example enough times over.

The 4K videos being strictly for premium users makes sense from a business stand point since the only real marketing point for premium was the "No ads" thing which could be blocked by ad blockers anyways so making a video resolution special to premium only makes sense since you can't really get around that (at least that I know of) and it'd give someone a real reason to join rather than just downloading a free ad block program
Vor 11 MonateDBOMB YO +79
Although it doesn’t mean much…. YT premium also is good for phone users because it lets you turn your phone off with the video still playing

4k videos behind paywall it's not big deal anyway. There are tons of users who have barely 1080p screen or internet so bad 4k wouldn't even load. Also if you don't have like 80inch TV and you sit right in front of it you can't tell that big of a difference between 1080p and 4k.
Vor 11 MonateDayko +8
@DBOMB YO On Android that is still possible for free with Youtube Vanced (I know they shut down but the app still works). And I think there are already others that do the same. For me the only reason to get youtube premium would be for 4k on my TV but honestly I will just watch at 1440p and leave it at that.

Vor 11 MonateRasma Chris
I think 3 minutes is acceptable. Streamers should take a break every hour to get a drink or stretch their legs, run an ad during that time so minimize down time during streams and viewers dont feel like they're missing anything. The biggest issue as a viewer is how intrusive they are. I get 4-8 ads back to back 30s each and that translates to being unable to watch live content for 2-4 minutes, when watching the live content is what I'm there for in the first place.
Vor 11 MonateDavid P +1
The main reason I don't watch twitch isn't the ads themselves, but the lack of regulation for them. Literal unskippable ads when I hop into a stream or a random ad in the middle of a tense or exciting moment makes me immediately leave. So if you allow the streamers to choose when and how many ads are played, I will watch twitch 100x more than I do. Like, just imagine if you were watching the super bowl or the world cup and they could just play an ad at any random time, there would be literal riots.

If you're watching a stream and have the opera browser, you can do a workaround by popping out the smaller muted video of stream, unmuting it, muting the ad and then enlarging the popped out image. It allows you to both see and hear the stream as the ads play in the background
Vor 11 MonateR - G - C +1
Unfortunately, only like 0.6% of people who browse the internet use Opera, and even less use Twitch.
Vor 10 MonateMoothu
@R - G - C yeah, I guess I'm in a very small minority here. I just wish people would give other browsers a shot besides the default one on their device
Vor 10 MonateSquatology
I think Twitch could fix their issue if they put skippable ads in there. In this case everybody is still shown the ads and if people are interested in it they can finish the ad and if not they should be able to skip it after 5 seconds or so.

Ive always thought youtube should have 4 modes. Play, Live, Shorts, and Vods Leave the YT logo on the screen or on app and when tapped+held or hovered opens to a radial menu for the different modes. Play would be traditional youtube (with other modes sprinkled in like now) Live is streams only (bringing viewers more streams per page and allowing website rework to be streamer friendly) Shorts so you can serve more shorts per page and pump view numbers And VODS, so that stream replays dont smother growing livestreams, but are still available in their own little package. The core of that idea just being the radial menu. What i imagine is pretty clean and quick to use without locking you in to tunnel vision of a category.
Vor 11 MonateRequiem +1

I think the ad blocks could be something chats can get used to if twitch offered a picture and picture view while also cutting pre roll ads. Nothing is worse than missing an entire round of Valorant for the same Adobe Photoshop ad you’ve seen 6 times. Secondly it would be less intrusive to have an ad run at 60% with the stream at 40% so you can at least see what is happening still. It sucks to get hit with an ad and come back and have NO idea what you missed. Also why can’t twitch provide ad space on a creators page instead of on the stream? Lastly can ads just not be full screen? Cable TV have 10% bars that come up from the bottom that sit for like 10 seconds. I could see a secret lab ad bar animate at the bottom for a period. I think twitch is putting the creative implementation of ads onto the streamers and not helping with their side. They can create other ad types but refuse to. This will cause a lot of streams to take ad breaks - either food breaks, bathroom breaks or just breaks in general to run ads. It will also benefit tournament broadcasts or restreams. Tarik runs 6 min of ads during a valorant tech timeout dude is making 40k extra. Also can’t someone run a second stream late at night or early morning and just run all their ads then when their main viewership isn’t watching?

it’s so crazy how many things he’s been able to do and accomplish after making the switch to youtube, best move he could have ever made especially since twitch is swiftly killing their platform. youtube needs to start capitalizing more on twitch’s mistakes and make big upgrades to the live streaming and shorts so more streamers will come to youtube.

Youtube's revenue is down and that is after they have paid all of these streamers big contracts. They are not getting a return on investment and will stop investing in live streamers. Why hasn't Lud convinced QT to move exclusively to YouTube? Because it's all about the contract, otherwise he's be on Twitch.
Vor 11 MonateMarginalSC +1
Do they really have to if Twitch is doing what it's doing?
Vor 11 Monatepeyton lewallen +1
@MarginalSC yeah, twitch acts like they have no competition, so they don’t really care what they do to the platform because it’s the biggest streaming site on the internet. just like nba2k they have no competition to make they’re games good because they’re the only basketball game that comes out every year so they know people are gonna buy it no matter what, atleast a big majority of people are.
Vor 11 MonateHoly +1
The numbers for coconut’s deal were kind of insane. In exchange for streaming about 168 hours and running 8 minutes of ads per hour, he’d make $44k in ad revenue, which seems pretty good. On the contrary, say if I, his viewer, watched every hour of every stream he did, I would be subjected to 28 hours of ads… more than an entire day’s worth of ads. In addition, even for a gaming streamer like coconut brah (plays siege if I remember right), 168 hours a month is an average of around 5 and a half hours a day. In the end, while the creator is essentially milked dry, the viewers themselves are subjected to absurd amounts of ads. Seems like a lose lose for anyone on twitch that doesn’t own the company
Vor 11 MonateKyle McLaughlin
It will be interesting to see how a higher saturation of twitch turbo users impacts the overall/average payout of ads ran by streamers (because theoretically twitch would be getting less ad revenues because less people are actually seeing ads, and you KNOW that twitch will pass along that change if sponsors demand something)

All the options that were shown for the ad incentives from Twitch ranged anywhere from $19/hr to $262/hr. It sounds like a good opportunity for streamers. I understand ads are not very desirable for audiences but now it at least feels like you're kind of supporting those streamers because they have the ads and are receiving compensation for having it run during their stream. I remember when ads for Youtube videos were a real nuisance and when Youtube began actually sharing those profits with creators, everyone kind of got the idea that watching at least part of the ad or watching all of the ad helped the creator that they enjoyed watching.

Apparently it's already an option to have Shorts not show up in your viewers subscriptions feed. I've only seen one channel do this. Though to be fair, I'm not sure if it's a universal feature or one of the ones that youtube rolls out little by little to a small portion of youtube channels. If that's not the case, then youtubers are either not enabling that option because they don't know about it/where the setting is located, or they don't care to hide Shorts from their subscribers.

I think streamers (most) prefer Twitch for streaming, but for general viewers (not only the regular stream audience), YouTube is better, by far... But it should promote streams separately from videos, like the categories shown in the home page. They should ofc be promoted together, but not mixed, like having multiple categories side-by-side everywhere (live streams, videos, shorts). I keep having to look specifically for a stream, because if I don't watch for a week or two, even having notifs on, i don't see announcements anymore. Another thing that is bad with limited promotion of streams, is that, for example, I watched a mc streamer looking specifically for Minecraft streams to see what is like and if it's worth changing from Twitch. And the category was showing things that I never heard of. However I watch YouTube Minecraft streams, from HermitCraft and empires. Why couldn't someone see these immediately when looking? That was was already more than I do, I NEVER even bothered looking for the general streams tab or category on YouTube. So I don't even know what it is or where. And I watch a LOT.

Man I love mogal mail! It would be so cool to watch him do more casual stuff, like watching TikToks or playing games : )
Vor 11 Monatebeefour +16
Yeah, I wish he had a second channel where he would do that stuff. He would also make a good streamer, too!

Man YouTube really turned on the heat to Twitch. Glad to see they're pushing up the creator pay
Vor 11 MonateHeavensArcher
Man. If I was a full time streamer and I see an option of 3 minutes of ads an hour for 2.5k/month for about 60 hrs of streaming a month, I would be ok with that. That was my average monthly income from a 8 to 10 hr a day job.
Vor 11 Monateianfleischman82
I think it would be interesting if twitch were to run some ads like in the NFL where they basically keep showing the football content in a smaller screen while they run the ad as a big screen. That at least would make it to where if someone like a speed runner is doing their thing they could keep playing and chat could seamlessly keep watching. I don’t really watch twitch much, but that would be a nice feature. 🤷🏼♂️

The trajectory of Ludwig's background is either one of increasingly complex self-expression or a slow descent into madness. Either way, I'm here for it.

Would like to add some info on the ad rev for Twitch: It varies depending on which region your viewers are from. 95% of my viewership is from the Philippines. Twitch offers me in the range of 100-150 usd a month for 7min/hour. A similar-sized streamer (US Based, same follower/viewer count as me is being offered 800-900usd a month for 5min/hour
Vor 11 MonateDayko +2
One question do they also have to stream the same amount of hours that month? Because it says "run X min of ads X amount of hours".

I've had Twitch Turbo for years and years at this point. Best thing I ever paid for. Don't HAVE to buy subscriptions to creators unless I want to support them and I still get ad-free viewing everywhere on the site no matter what.

I've had adblocker for years and years at this point. Best thing I NEVER paid for. Don't HAVE to buy subscriptions to creators unless I want to support them and I still get ad-free viewing everywhere on the site no matter what, FOR FREEEE
Vor 11 MonateTrogan2000
Honestly I'd love to see a toned down version for affiliates so they can get a little bit of something
Vor 11 MonateMidgeWorth
The problem with Turbo is that it will cause the CPM of ads to go down because if everyone did it Twitch would have no power in selling ads. The creator will make less from ads because again they (Twitch) buys the ad for less. So it will lead to the same problem. If Twitch doesnt run ads they lose money, but no-one wants that many ads so get Twitch Turbo. Its a bad cycle.

I was watching a stream once and the streamer was telling a great story. It was getting really good and then BAM. 1 of 4 ads started. The whole chat started saying "STOP STOP. ADS!!!!" It slowed down the stream and lost momentum after that.

I'm glad to hear that livestreams will be separated! As much as I like sykkuno and lilpichu they never unlisted their livestreams
Vor 11 MonatePure Yt Youtube
I have to say that the worst thing about twitch ads compared to YouTube's or even tv's ads is that the livestream is still going and sometimes the ads are played by twitch and not the streamer, so maybe I'm losing out on a funny/cool moment or an important part of an explanation. It's not the end of the world but it makes the expirience much more frustrating, especially when I just have my prime sub (because I don't have much money) and even just following 2-3 streamers it really disincentives me to do so. Also I'm getting like 8 to 9 add in a row a lot of times, and it sucks so bad. I'm not using adblockers on either youtube or twitch because I want to contribute even a small amount to creators I really like, but twitch has been making such a good case for an adblocker recently
Vor 11 MonateAediion
I think the things this works best for us actually gaming events, especially tournaments as after 30 minutes (which can be 1-2 matches for most games) they switch to 3-4 minute add break, and then again at the end of the hour, which most tournaments already do. Or at the end of the hour they run 1 large ad break. I think for individual creators it does become much harder as you don't want to potentially lose viewers for running ads and essentially punish non subs, but you also see how much you could be making from running maybe a minute of ads between games, maybe 2 minutes of ads after 20 minutes, or at the end of an hour making a big announcement and being like "alright chat, I need to run some ads, it's gonna be a bit. Take this time to maybe get a snack, a drink, stretch, and just take a moment. If you have a twitch prime available you can view my stream, or anyone's for that matter, without ads and it doesn't cost you anything if you subscribe with it" I think it also incentivizes creators to also take small breaks for the same reason instead of sitting for 5, 6, 7+ hours at a time only getting up maybe twice to go to the bathroom and maybe grab food they ordered I don't fully agree with the feature, but I also don't inherently disagree with it except that it hurts the viewing experience for most people.

So cool to see Mogul Mail hit 1m, idk who said this but there's a phrase that goes "bigger number better person" and that seems the case for this small channel
Vor 11 MonateTiia Maria
Mogul Mail been grinding and he totally deserves the 1 million subs. Glag he can finally overcome that Ludwig guy who scammed him back then
Vor 11 Monatelolzorgfykys
mr mail hit 1 million subs good for him always nice to see small creators make their mark
Vor 11 MonateGoat's Fluff
What would happen if, say, everyone got Twitch Turbo? Would creators just not get _any_ ad money? That's a scary thought. It'd probably hurt Twitch too, though. No ad money for them either.
Vor 11 MonateSavageWolf609
Grats on 1mil Mogul Mail, you're catching up to your doppelganger Ludwig!
Vor 11 MonateSlappo
As someone who doesn’t really watch streaming, getting paid 44k a month for running 8 ads for 166 hours sounds like heaven
Vor 11 MonateCody Brown
With Twitch turbo, there is also going to be fewer people willing to sub. This then leads streamer to depend more on ads, thus leading them to run more ads.

For the dedicated shorts channels, YouTube could merge them with main channels. Like they did for music artists, bringing all their music over the website into one channel
