The amount of people on here who don't understand how a business is run is alarming. Anything that taints a business has to go, fair or not. That's the way it is. It has nothing to do with 'consensual'. Hes not being charged with assault. Hes fired for having an affair with a subordinate which is very, very stupid. And he did it publicly which basically ended his own career, let alone marriage. Your business is your brand. Anything that jeopardizes that needs to go or you won't have a business. That's why relationships and business don't and shouldn't ever mix. I bet some of you actually think your friends with your boss! 😄
Vor Monat
Michael Eldridge
@Amy rose multi million dollar business is small when you are talking about corporate entities with rigorous hr departments. I think you over estimate their oversight sophistication. Someone probably said to them that it could be a legal issue and that is why they did anything. They probably had no clue what to do. Funny how this went on for months of public dates and none of the try guys new about it.
Vor Monat
Amy rose
@Michael Eldridge he literally was fired for the work place relationship, are you dense? He was 1/4 owner of the company, as well as the fucking HR person. So if he threatened to fire Alex unless she slept with him she would have NO ONE to report it to. And I'm not saying that's what happened! But those are the reasons. They also are a multi million dollar business so yeah a pretty big one bud. And just because shit doesn't get done at other companies it's fine? Like wtf are you talking about.

Been a fan of SNL for a long time, and my wife and I are huge fans of Bowen Yang. So it saddens me to say not only is this sketch not funny, it's an embarrassment. Is SNL trying to say that when a company owner has secret affair with an employee, while publicly portraying himself as a great husband, it's just no big deal?? The only thing to laugh about in this sketch is the sheer stupidity of making it.
Vor 3 Monate
Wallace Stenson
The way the actors do the impersonations is kind of toxic too. A big part of the humor of this skit is, "haha, look at the fairy boys. They're showing emotion". Yang's impersonation of Eugene really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's just a blanket stereotype of an overemotional effeminate gay man, which is just kinda disgusting to see in 2022.

Yes how dare a company uphold a moral standard and respect the families hurt by this situation. How dare they not cover this up like it is no big deal. It is admirable that they actually hold one of their dear friends accountable, and that they did so without bashing him and without siding with him either. They have handled this with grace, and of course SNL is not able to just respect that in a space and community they normally wouldn’t care about.

Yeah, he's a Try Guy and she's a Food Baby. Meaning that he's her boss and there was a serious ethical issue, possibly even a consent issue. PLUS, he was the head of HR, so he's supposed to be making sure this stuff doesn't happen. Also, he's married and she was engaged, and they were having an ongoing relationship. Their significant others were publicly humiliated, especially Ned's wife, who was (or is) part of the Try Guys staff; she's nearly as well known to the public as Ned. Publicly, the Try Guys have always stood for integrity and against toxic masculinity. Ned's actions were disgustingly hypocritical. A large part of his brand of humor is the "wife guy" stuff, and he literally made money off of that - which would be fine if he was really the person he said he was, but clearly he's not.

@Greywolf757 because of the power imbalance (1) no (2) Ned had more of a responsibility to stop the situation from happening (3) she could have felt pressured into or into continuing the relationship imo it was likely consensual based off what I've seen, but until Alex herself makes a statement saying as much, its important to note that only Ned is the one who has said it was consensual. Alex has not. until she confirms or denies (which likely won't be anytime soon), I would hold off from final judgment

@Greywolf757 potentially yes but no one knows for sure and I think what most are seeing is that so many people are saying "she could be a victim" and others are like "but she likely wasn't" and with Alex not speaking (which is her right to stay quiet, I personally would want to hide in a bunker for a year if I messed up and was caught on such a big scale) both sides are just trying to convince the other that they're right. It also is just infuriating that SNL is downplaying the situation SO badly from "after weeks of investigation it was revealed this was ongoing for almost a year and multiple people in the office knew about it (ie were in an environment of sexual harassment, keeping in mind that NOT sleeping with the boss and when someone is and might be getting perks from it is considered sexual harassment and can be an offense/winnable lawsuit)" to "a consensual kiss"... just so so so angering that a company is doing the upright thing and SNL is mocking and downplaying it so hard.

@Alex D have you actually seen them go to media outlet after media outlet to talk about this? They haven't. They issued a brief text statement on their page and then when things REALLY blew up they did a 3 minute video on their YouTube channel and then addressed it fully on their podcast in long form version but they aren't the ones blowing this up- media and social media are. They removed ned while they were doing the investigation because it's literally just them putting him on suspension while conducting the investigation. I don't get how you think the try guys are the ones being dramatic... they were being human. If you had the company you worked so hard on for 8 years be put in jeopardy because one of your partners decided to do an action that left the company vulnerable to a lawsuit you'd be really angry too. Especially since they action hurt their friend and boys who are nephews to them, Ariel and the boys. So yeah, I do like living in a world where actions aren't swept under the rug and YouTuber don't go everywhere to talk about big changes on their channel but do feel free to be honest and transparent on their own channel.

The only acceptable jokes here are where Egobunma doesn't know who they're talking about but Brendan is so serious about it. The rest is garbage. I respect that the guys took it seriously and handled it well when they discovered that an owner of the company was having a sexual relationship with a young lower-level employee. The only stupid part was how it was such a crazy huge scandal. Guess SNL thinks #metoo is no longer popular enough to support if they're shitting on companies who actually properly handle sexual misconduct in the workplace.

SNL completely misunderstood why they had to remove Ned from the company. There are a lot of legal problems that they had to face throughout the whole ordeal. For one, Ned was a co-head of the company dating an employee which can cause a lot of legal issues in the future if they didn't react quickly and accordingly. So many problems can arise from a relationship between a boss and an employee and it is very easy for things to get out of hand when things take a bad turn in those relationships. Keeping Ned in the company with everything going on between him and Alex puts the entire company at risk, not just him. If say there is a really bad break up between Ned and Alex and Ned is still a boss at Second Try LLC when it happens, not only can it affect the flow at work for everyone as a boss and producer are having personally issues brought into the workplace, but there is always the possibility of these problems leading to legal actions being taken against the company for allowing the boss and employee relationship to continue. This is why most companies have a policy that states that upper management is in no way allowed to have a romantic relationship with someone who works beneath them as an employee of the company. A lot of people think this is unfair to basically say "You can't date this person even if you really like each other because you work together" but it is in the best interests of every person involved including the company itself because there's just no telling how these relationships will play out and how it will affect the company or whether or not it will end with any sort of legal action taken against the boss individual and/or the company itself.

@SalvSays How in the world is it terrible to fire an employee who potentially ruined your company's image? A company's image determines their success. Ned endangered the company for some action on the side. It's really as simple as that. He completely deserved to be let go. His actions showed how much he valued the company and its reputation (which was clearly not a lot).
Vor 4 Monate

@Rowan Caldwell I imagine they will be fine but unless they're going to start paying Ariel what Ned was making, I can't see how this doesn't also punish her. I know in other videos the power dynamic in the affair is brought up but The Try Guys introduced a similar power dynamic when they started incorporating their partners into the business. Like you said, Arial works for the try guys. Ned was already in a relationship with an employee. It just seems like this response is more about protecting the Try Guys' brand from potential fan backlash than actually doing right by the people caught up in what would normally be a very personal and very private betrayal.

Didn't Ned's friend write this sketch? I guess that's why an affair and workplace sexual misconduct for over a year, was treated as "a consensual kiss" that was being overblown all because the Try Guys were just angry they weren't in on "the joke." SNL tends to do well nailing it with their parodies, but this time hit below the belt. It doesn't matter The Try Guys tried to take it lightly themselves, it still wasn't okay to ignore the moral implications of what happened to the franchise, and what could have been what potentially ruined it. They are all three struggling with what to do now. Ned's choices destroyed their company, essentially.

@emilia von gutez no, it doesn't "become" sexual harassment just because she claims it is. It is sexual harassment if it actually IS sexual harassment, regardless of what she claims. Whether or not she claims it is is entirely irrelevant, ethically speaking. It is relevant epistemically, (we may somewhat justifiably BELIEVE it's more likely to be sexual harassment if she claims it is) but not at all ethically.
Vor 3 Monate
emilia von gutez
@sub-harmonick Are you kidding? What people “could claim” is very much ethically relevant as that is the whole reason why it’s such an issue. It doesn’t matter that it appears consensual. If she says she felt like she couldn’t turn him down after some point in the relationship because of fear of retaliation, it immediately becomes sexual harassment. There’s many ways Alex could’ve twisted it due to the power imbalance and a single claim could give her a right to sue. It wouldn’t only open them to huge legal issues but damage to their brand and their company as a whole.
Vor 3 Monate
sub-harmonick
@emilia von gutez What people 'could claim' isn't ethically relevant, what's ethically relevant is what the reality of the situation is. (which we don't know). Also I think the situation would be pretty contextual and dependent on the specific jobs in question, and structure of the company. But in this particular case I don't fault the company for firing him at all. There are other factors than just the employee/management relationship.
Vor 3 Monate
emilia von gutez
@sub-harmonick Yes, it is inherently wrong literally just because of the possibility. That’s why it’s not permitted or at least highly frowned upon in almost every workplace. Even if everything was consensual there is *always* the possibility that Alex as his subordinate, could claim she felt coerced or suggested into the relationship, and if she ever wanted to end it she could claim she felt she couldn’t because of his position as her boss, and she didn’t want to be in bad favor with the person literally signing her checks. Also people throughout the company could claim unfairness if Alex got any type of promotion/raise or higher position because it could be assumed it was because of what she was doing with Ned. Their relationship itself, consensual or otherwise opened up a possibility of legal issues for not just Ned but the company and their brand as a whole. It wasn’t just his livelihood he put on the line but that of his friends who also cofounded the company. That might sound a bit dramatic but think of what would happen even if he did cheat with someone outside the company. Ned would quickly be branded a deceitful cheater and by standing by him the rest of the Try guys and their channel as a whole would suffer in the face of the internet (rightfully so imo). The fact that it was with an employee only made it that much worse because of the HR issues. The decision to remove him was very much also a business one as it probably was a personal one.

After reading and seeing other talk about how bad this was and how far they missed the mark I had to give the benefit of the doubt to form my own opinion. I am very sad to say this was worse than I was expecting. This borders on being shameful and they should be ashamed of themselves. I love watching well done parodies they can be hilarious but making villains of three business owners who choose to speak open and honest regarding a situation is in no way humorous. There are reasons quid pro quo relationships are prohibited; this was literally the employees boss and head of Human Resources having an affair with someone they directly oversee. There is a massive power imbalance and every reason to believe the likelihood of retaliation against the employee by her boss is extremely high should the relationship end poorly. This also trivializes that as a small business Ned put the company in a position of being vulnerable to multiple civil lawsuits for sexual harassment, hostile workplace, etc which likely would have bankrupted and ended the company they built. Shame of you SNL, while given the shows own history of sexual harassment and hostile treatment I genuinely believe the writers found this an amusing anecdote victim blaming is not cute. Ideas for future sketches, why not revamp this as upset principal who had to terminate a teacher for violating “bro code” in his affair with a student. Hilarity ensues I’m sure

Even though Ned is *completely* in the wrong with this whole situation, I still feel like it would have been possible to make a legitimately funny sketch about it. I mean, there are hundreds of thousands of hours of content about Eugene, Zach, and Keith where they openly show plenty of imperfections and legitimate character flaws, admit to real things they struggle with, etc. This attempt to make fun of them was so disappointing in its mediocrity that I feel it highlights how little Ned must have been contributing to the hilarity of the show lol.

Vor 4 Monate
durkslag
@RosenrotRtLiebchen87 Oh civil cases are legal matters, and honestly it may be a pretty semantic issue, but I think the term "illegal" has so much weight behind it it's necessary to be more careful with our choice of words. To be clear, criminal and civil courts both handle legal cases but criminal court handle cases regarding breaking of laws, or illegal conduct, while civil court handles legal disputes, or situations that are legally questionable. By saying something is illegal, it means a law has been broken. If the girl he cheated on his wife with came out and said there was sexual harassment / assault involved, that would have been illegal. But if she came out and said the relationship that she had, which she consented to while recognizing the power imbalance involved, led to her reputation being tarnished or workplace harassment from other employees, she could potentially ask to be compensated for that experience from Ned, which would be handled in civil court. For example, you can sue a company or person for negligence due to some accident leading to you being hurt, but negligence is not illegal in and of itself. But considering neither of these things have happened, the relationship itself should not be considered illegal, as it is not criminally prosecutable and nothing has been filed / he has not been found liable to any hurt she sustained in civil court.

we have to do a better job of consciousness raising than throwing alphabet blocks into the ether and expecting whoever finds them to just put them in the right order. how long has the conversation about consent been in the mainstream? and yet all of these people with a straight face can call a relationship between an owner of a company and one of his employees “consensual”? I don’t care if an old friend of Ned’s was in the writers room; knowing the people involved doesn’t mean you understand the dynamic. We have to stop just leaving tools on the table with no explanation for how to use them. The presence of “consent” in the popular verbiage is useless if people are just going to apply it to any situation that fits their needs.

I appreciate that firing Ned was absolutely the right thing to do and it's very much justified that the Try Guys feel betrayed by their friends actions but that's not the joke here. The joke here is that Try Guys drama managed to break the internet and somehow become the most important news in the world so when you make that joke you take it to the extreme and make them seem as pointless as possible and the crime seem as inoffensive as possible. Having legendary actor Brendan Gleeson say "but she's a Food Baby" is objectively funny because it is clearly a silly thing nobody should care about. Conversely, a sketch laying into Ned just wouldn't be funny for anybody not immersed in the scandal and, importantly, has already been done everywhere. Now, there's a case to be made that they just shouldn't have touched this for fear of looking like they're legitimising predatory behaviour and power harassment but then you're into a separate censorship argument

The amount of people on here who don't understand how a business is run is alarming. Anything that taints a business has to go, fair or not. That's the way it is. And he did it publicly which basically ended his own career, let alone marriage. Your business is your brand. Anything that jeopardizes that needs to go or you won't have a business. @Sgt FuckOff It's potentially Iliegal due to the fact he was not only in charge of HR but also was her boss. but to explain the uproar. there's a few theories. one, 1It's because Ned constantly brought her up, he has 2 kids with her, so when you find out that Ned "my wife" Fulmer cheated on his wife. yeah that's shocking. 2 they know Eugene's parents went through divorce and they are mad for Eugene. 3 brand betrayal, it goes against what the try guys stand for. 4 Feel bad for Ariel. and 5 The internet loves and gets invested in drama.

Vor 3 Monatewilliam miller
@Hannah you do understand this happens every day right? And in most cases you would get a warming. I mean my girlfriend works high up in HR so I hear about this shit all the time. And if I owned a company I wouldn't put myself in that situation. Vor MonatClare White

@Yuh Sure. My entire argument is it is solely not illegal, you can have relationships in the workplace, up and down or side to side. Contracts may specify otherwise, and that can get you fired on violation. End of point.
Vor 3 MonateYuh
@Vulpesune and? It still violates their contract, who gives a shit about the law , when you breach a contract there is a law saying that it should be handled accordingly to the terms, so the fact that you are trying to sit here and say that he can get away with it because it’s not a us crime , as if the contract he signed doesn’t apply.if it wasn’t a big deal he wouldn’t be getting sued for breach of contract

Vor 4 MonateJenny
Vor 4 MonateGreywolf757
I don't blame the Try Guys for how they responded, but I wish people would stop acting like Alex is a victim. The relationship between Alex and Ned was likely consensual. She's likely just as responsible for what happened as he is.
Vor 4 MonateJenny
Vor 4 MonateM. Harvey
Vor 3 MonateAsh

Vor 2 MonateJulie Valdez
Sending my love to Ariel and Wesley. You don’t deserve this 😞❤
Vor 3 MonateMrSmileyFaceGames

This is disgusting behavior!!! We’ve been trying so hard to get men to hold other men accountable for cheating and once they do they immediately get made fun of, the way the try guys handled this was incredibly well and my heart aches for Ariel and the boys, and Will.

Vor 4 MonateSummer N
@SalvSays How in the world is it terrible to fire an employee who potentially ruined your company's image? A company's image determines their success. Ned endangered the company for some action on the side. It's really as simple as that. He completely deserved to be let go. His actions showed how much he valued the company and its reputation (which was clearly not a lot).
Vor 4 MonateCharles
@Rowan Caldwell I imagine they will be fine but unless they're going to start paying Ariel what Ned was making, I can't see how this doesn't also punish her. I know in other videos the power dynamic in the affair is brought up but The Try Guys introduced a similar power dynamic when they started incorporating their partners into the business. Like you said, Arial works for the try guys. Ned was already in a relationship with an employee. It just seems like this response is more about protecting the Try Guys' brand from potential fan backlash than actually doing right by the people caught up in what would normally be a very personal and very private betrayal.
Vor 4 MonateSalvSays
@Summer N but that’s speculation. If they can prove quid pro quo or he broke something he agreed to, something work related like that. Then yes. But none of what has been said seems to be that. They fired him to keep an image. That’s terrible
Vor 4 MonateSummer N
@SalvSays It's actually not nonsense. He likely violated a company policy. Wouldn't you say that in general if someone violates a company policy, that's grounds to be fired?

Vor 4 Monatesub-harmonick
@emilia von gutez no, it doesn't "become" sexual harassment just because she claims it is. It is sexual harassment if it actually IS sexual harassment, regardless of what she claims. Whether or not she claims it is is entirely irrelevant, ethically speaking. It is relevant epistemically, (we may somewhat justifiably BELIEVE it's more likely to be sexual harassment if she claims it is) but not at all ethically.
Vor 3 Monateemilia von gutez
@sub-harmonick Are you kidding? What people “could claim” is very much ethically relevant as that is the whole reason why it’s such an issue. It doesn’t matter that it appears consensual. If she says she felt like she couldn’t turn him down after some point in the relationship because of fear of retaliation, it immediately becomes sexual harassment. There’s many ways Alex could’ve twisted it due to the power imbalance and a single claim could give her a right to sue. It wouldn’t only open them to huge legal issues but damage to their brand and their company as a whole.
Vor 3 Monatesub-harmonick
@emilia von gutez What people 'could claim' isn't ethically relevant, what's ethically relevant is what the reality of the situation is. (which we don't know). Also I think the situation would be pretty contextual and dependent on the specific jobs in question, and structure of the company. But in this particular case I don't fault the company for firing him at all. There are other factors than just the employee/management relationship.
Vor 3 Monateemilia von gutez
Vor 3 Monatesub-harmonick
@Thatotherchannel It's obviously not ideal for someone higher up to date an employee due to the potential for bad social situations but idk if that makes it inherently wrong

Vor 2 MonateKindness_Is_The_Key
I came straight here after watching the actual clip the Try Guys posted This sketch was insensitive, wildly inaccurate, minimized the pain of everyone involved in the scandal, and somehow also managed to demonize the remaining Try Guys for having perfectly valid feelings. They totally did Eugene dirty on this.
Vor 26 TageAmber Stewart
Even though Ned is *completely* in the wrong with this whole situation, I still feel like it would have been possible to make a legitimately funny sketch about it. I mean, there are hundreds of thousands of hours of content about Eugene, Zach, and Keith where they openly show plenty of imperfections and legitimate character flaws, admit to real things they struggle with, etc. This attempt to make fun of them was so disappointing in its mediocrity that I feel it highlights how little Ned must have been contributing to the hilarity of the show lol.
Vor 2 MonateFlynn Void
Wow, look at that. Ned's old Yale friend made a sketch downplaying him breaking a literal law by sleeping with his employee. Which even Ned himself said in an old video is very illegal. Hope SNL is proud of themselves for continuously getting worse.
Vor 4 Monatedurkslag

A year long cheating sandal, betraying and embarrassing his wife and children, betraying your friends/business partners, putting the other members of try guys at risk of their jobs and reputations. The fact that there’s more stuff coming to light of his affair is nasty. It’s disgusting to make fun of Keith, Eugene and Zach in this situation where they not only had to take the proper precautions for this affair, but they also lost a friends they trusted. The betrayal of Ned to his wife, kids and the rest of the team is unbelievable. Good job SNL at ruining your own imagine trying to make a joke out of the affair, the sexual misconduct at the work place and how it was handle, Keith, Zach and Eugene’s struggles of dealing with the situation and how they also were betrayed, but the worst part is you weren’t even thinking of his wife and kids who are being betrayed the most by the fry guy that made everything about his wife.

we have to do a better job of consciousness raising than throwing alphabet blocks into the ether and expecting whoever finds them to just put them in the right order. how long has the conversation about consent been in the mainstream? and yet all of these people with a straight face can call a relationship between an owner of a company and one of his employees “consensual”?
