Look, he clearly has a long way to go. The shoes are splotchy and I don’t like how the holes he makes for the rope aren’t done neater. Maybe that’s the look he’s going for idk. With that being said he’s speaking his goals into existence. I give him props for that and I hope he doesn’t quit because he’s only going to get better. You need to have fails to have success. We can learn a thing or two from him.

Yknow, I was expecting some rad design of like, a scaled Chinese dragon, or water like pattern. You know, something organically flowing through the shoe as the main star. Not my third grade attempt at drawing a galaxy with all the markers I could find that were half dried up and scraggly.

Looked great in their own with the light tan they had imo, not trying to be rude but if you try another project I hope you design it on paper before you put it on a shoe 😅

@Mary M in my opinion the design in the first place is just not really too good, a single line of random colors with a sloppy black outline just doesn’t look good because there’s too much empty space on the shoe. You’re right tho, the colors pop out too hard but in a bad way, the color palette for these shoes should be browns, tans, yellows, black, and white.

I think it was bc the shoes are a warm tone, and he used cool paint colors. If he used metallic gold, copper, and shiny black, I think it would've worked better on the tan.

I think the blues and greens looked good when loose and had no black outline, however halfway through the colors became muddy and it looks like if you put a alien’s organs over your shoes

I’m sorry, there was something good and cool in that idea but the execution wasn’t that good. Some advice from an artist that nobody asked for—the black linework creates uniformity when the design idea relies on the opposite. The colors have to be more spread apart from one another, otherwise they muddy and blend together and you get a weird color blend. I’d personally choose colors that are across from each other on the color wheel (complementary), as they stand out more. However, I’d make each pairing have their own spot on the shoe. Like have the pairing green/red on the front right, and blue/orange on the back left of the shoe. The black can be used here— but I would personally use it as a shadow to the spread-out tics of marker, and for everything that is good in the world, I’d wait until all marking was dry before going in with a black. Now, I know my thoughts weren’t asked for. I do see a lot of promise in the original concept of the design, and I wanted to help as best I could. I hope I did that. These are things to consider that might elevate designs in the future. I enjoy your videos and respect you as a fellow artist. 💚💚

same here, the black makes it look very muddy and the actual brush strokes just blend together and look kind of like if you just pressed hard with a pencil. He said something about it being organic, but the black outlines make it very hard to achieve that result

Okay my tip is to let the paint dry between layers, now I’m not sure what type of paint you’re using or how long it takes to dry so if it has a long dry time I understand why you don’t want to wait, but it will be worth it to just be patient bc if you don’t let the dry in between layers the colors blend and look like shit. And if your going to be layering colors like that and not letting things dry I recommend using colors that blend into nice colors bc using purple then putting yellow on top never goes well, using red and yellow obviously creates orange and blue and orange also don’t mix well. Just my tip as someone who had been painting with watercolor and acrylic or 4 or 5 years. Hope this helps bc this shoe design had so much potential

I mean... The rope laces and painting it on the coffee shoes wasn't a good idea. I would've done this on some all white af1s. The rope laces on the coffee shoes wasn't too great because they look to chunky on the sleekness of the af1s. To make this better, I wouldve used dark brown laces instead of rope, and instead of the shades of blue, red, etc, I would've gone with a dark brown and had made almost racing stripe like lines on the shoes instead of that wavy stream design you have going on

So the other day I was considering doing something I knew that there was a strong possibility it wouldn't turn out well but with my contract being so huge with NBA stars rookies and bench rides I thought hey why not take a chance

So much potential just to end up painting it like a little kid who can’t choose their favorite color :(

Damn it wouldn't be too shabby if the design of colours was a bit more..purposeful. tons of muddy, smeared, colours - unplanned coloue placement beforehand caused the messy, muddy color mixing where it appears. Keep practicing though! Make sure you're always working on new designs on non-client, cheaper shoes

You had the right idea maybe try other colors that compliment each other and your always gonna get hate comments everyone has their own opinion but the only opinion that matters is your own ❤️

okay couple things. this is con crit. your outline painting lacks confidence in the brush strokes. learn to do long strokes in one go instead of tiny strokes. that’ll make stuff like outlines look clean instead of messy. small strokes can work for certain things, but a lot of this just ends up looking shaky the red and yellow make the colors look muddy. blue, green, and purple is a nice triad color scheme. but red and yellow contrast. when you put all 5 colors together, you’ve almost got the whole color wheel there. it creates this muddy look when all the strokes are piled on top of each other. take some time to look up color theory and study. let the individual strokes breathe a little too. i don’t dislike this concept for the shoes, early on i actually liked how it was looking, but the execution isn’t there. keep at it and do some dedicated practice for brushwork especially

If you want colorful - dont place purple and yellow together if you'll be mixing them. Same goes with any red and green shades, and orange and blue. They dont blend into colorful colours... they blend to a neutral, muddy ugly colour
