This guys experience is his own, it doesn’t mean he’s right, it’s personal preference based on his own enjoyment of something. Even if a song might sound flat or thin for example, doesn’t mean people can’t enjoy that specific song.
Vor 8 Monateprincegobi +9
@Star Pillars no one is saying people can’t enjoy a song, that doesn’t make that song good, though. There are more objective touchstones to reference when doing music criticism if you are serious about doing a good job at it. 1) When "ELEVATION" (#5) got compared to *DJ Khaled* in a negative way, that's how you know that the Black Eyed Peas truly fell off. It doesn't help that the album hasn't charted anywhere. It doesn't even have a *Wikipedia* page! 😂 2) Also, the "A Narrative Soundscape" (#1) part had me dying from laughter! 🤣

@Benjamin Tirone Nunes This isn't the best comparison but I'm going to make it anyway. Gorillaz' 2021 Notting Hill Carnival themed EP, "Meanwhile", didn't have a Wikipedia page for a while. It ended up getting one a few months after its release. If "ELEVATION", an album made by a band *way* more famous than Gorillaz, can't get a Wikipedia page sooner than that EP, I'm going to die from laughter! 🤣

Huge Iced Earth fan here. Their music has meant a lot to me, they really changed my life. I know every album by heart. I've met them too and they were very nice to me. Was heartbroken by Jon Schaffer's implication in the capitol bullshit, as well as his COVID denial, and haven't really been able to listen to IE since, pretty much. It sucks hard, because their music was a huge part of my life, but it just isn't the same now. This album was a very weird product and it truly baffled me, when I first listened to it. My take, sad as it sounds: it was a way to quickly release something "new" and make some money to help pay for Jon's legal expenses, seeing as he is in deep trouble after the riot. The music is all stuff that already existed, rearranged to sound like background fantasy music. The spoken stuff was partly already existing lyrics and partly new stuff that probably didn't take long to write. It's familiar stuff, if you know Jon. And obviously recordings the vocals wouldn't take long, you could probably do it all in one day. So, yeah, I think this album was simply a way to make some money as quickly as possible. The fall of Jon and Iced Earth is truly depressing.
Vor 9 MonateStar Pillars +4

I had the misfortune of coming by a Tom M video earlier today wherein he said he had the "#2 pop song on the charts" and positioned himself as the David/ independent artist vs. the Goliath of Sam Smith, producers, and the major labels. His music is apparently better and more authentic because he's the sole writing / production credit on his songs. I've never seen someone spin "no one wants to work with me" into "let's take down the system" quite so deftly.

Yo I had never heard of A Narrative Soundtrack by Iced Earth before but the way you described it sounded very funny so I decided to give it a listen. The first track I could not stop laughing. Like the lyrics, there not even lyrics, narration I guess, is like Elder Scrolls or Game of Thrones dialogue put alongside production that sounds like stock fantasy music that you would find on YouTube. And after listening to this album, I love it. Don’t get me wrong it’s terrible but it’s the best thing ever like it is so god damn funny. Honestly just seeing Kanye at this point just makes me sad. One of the most influential artists of our generation devolved into... this. This pathetic, self-important nonsense that long since gave up on anything but stroking Kanye's massive ego. I honestly just hope he gets help soon and drops from public eye. The man needs it and I would rather him retire now and save what little credibility and honor his legacy had than ruin it all with these statements. But he won't. No, his managers and fans are going to keep feeding into him until it reaches a boiling point and god knows when. It just makes me sad. I can't even listen to his music anymore without thinking of it. I mean I still enjoy his records don't get me wrong but... it's still there.

Vor 8 MonateTenny Penny +5
@Paul Tapping I respectfully disagree. At least in relation to his earlier work. I will admit he was always an asshole and he had one hell of an ego but I always thought he was able to properly back it up with really damn good music and narratives and stories anyone could relate to. Or just being so over the top you couldn't help but sing along and enjoy it. His ego, for better or for worse, defined alot of his career. Unfortunately, as we've seen recently, that can easily turn into your greatest enemy as much as your greatest ally...

Power metal is cheesy, but it’s kinda supposed to be. That’s not to say Iced Earth’s latest album is good, just that power metal is fun because it’s cheesy.
Vor 9 Monateroger1724
@Bruh Power Metal... I haven't heard those words in ages. Is Kamelot still good?

"... this is the most popular and relevant artist that Pop Punk has to offer right now." Most popular, perhaps, but certainly not the most relevant. In '22, State Champs and No Pressure both delivered killer albums.

I couldn’t disagree more with Honestly Nevermind. I hadn’t heard Drake since Take Care and this album got me back into listening to Drake. One of my favorite albums of the year!
Vor 9 MonateGolden Grin
I think you're right so many musical genres just plain blow chunks this year but there are also so many great albums too. Pop Punk, Rock, Power Metal, Thrash, Metal in general, Soundcloud Rap and Reggaeton suck now.

That Iced Earth album is technically a remix album, every song has the same lyrics as something they recorded before with matching titles(just with the "narrative soundscape"shit at the end).
Vor 9 MonateNicholas Bednarcik
Though I don't always agree with your points on all things (I still appreciate them though), you hit this nail on the head. These really are the worst 😆
Vor 2 MonateBailey Wattron +1
There is nothing disappointing about Nevermind. It has been proven time and time again that, in this era, you don't have to be a talented musician in order to be one of the most popular music stars.

really sounds like a title he’d use too

It’s being speculated that it’s called bulletproof and it’s gonna be a rap album maybe this nerd won’t hate so much once Kells displays some fire rap tracks. Weird how he never reviewed his 2019 rap album he must have secretly liked It

Finally an album i like made the worst album list! But seriously i don't think Will of the People is really that bad. It's not masterpiece but it's fun rock album with fun riffs and catchy hooks. It's silly but silly in a fun way. I don't think it's on the same level as other albums in this list.

Surprised Viva Las Vengeance wasn’t on here. That album was PAINFUL to the point I couldn’t finish it.

I loved X. I don't think it's really fair to compare WLR to Opium's other albums, because WLR was an introduction to the world of Opium/homixide, and/or rage music. It encompasses the highly energetic moshpit tracks, the gang shit, and then the chill atmospheric stuff. But X or No stylist or Homixide lifestyle are reinterpretations of the things listed above. And it's also the fact that X doesn't have a focus on lyrics or production in that sense because the album is meant for moshing. Just look at the XMAN tour. The album's goal is banging basses, some catchy lyrics and trippy synths, just so the opium fans can just mosh, not give a fuck and have fun in the concerts. So of course in terms of creatively or musically, X is not that good of an album, but it does achieve its intended goal.

Anthony giving Nav his flowers? Truly a Christmas miracle.
Vor 9 MonateAndre M +2
Has Anthony ever enjoyed the pleasure of a genuine laugh? I don't mean the fake laughs he does when he's flexing his moral and intellectual muscle. I mean does he ever loosen his plaid shirt and just enjoy a deep visceral laugh? I sure hope so.

Props to melon for sitting through that Iced Earth record. Takes a real dedication to the craft, my dude.

Iced Earth's album is like that because it's not "the band" anymore. It's just Jon on his own being weird.

I feel like you could've taken out NAV because, well, it's NAV. Our expectations for him have been the same for years and I don't see it changing. Plus in his defense we got one of the funniest reviews from it's drop this year. I would put CHTKMY or BOB2 in it's place. Both have characteristics about them that make them outstandingly bad.

Kid Rock is basically the Jimmy Buffet of today. His fans love him and he’s 100% fan-service at this point. I can’t stand him or his fans but you’ve gotta admit, objectively speaking, that he clearly cares about his crowd.
Vor 9 MonateOwl +11
That kid rock album was bad but it was also one of the funniest things I’ve listened to this decade. 10/10.
Vor 9 MonateRobinson Nox +30
Nav's latest, it really did it for me. I put it on, and I couldn't help myself. I punched so many trees. People saw me do it and they were confused but they were Nav Normies. Eventually I got put into prison but I did it all for Nav. Every night I would cry "NAV IS THE GREATEST POET AROUND" although it took a fellow inmate (meth) to tell me how to pronounce poet correct

It's sad how artists have to take ALL the heat that comes from maling a bad album. The producers keep laughing in their way to the infinity pool.

It really is wild to think that Donda 1&2 might be the last albums Kanye ever releases. At least, the last ones that will ever get anything even resembling an impartial review. From now until the end of time, Kanye will be remembered for his anti-semitic meltdown.

Hot take: Green Day was never as good as people make them out to have been. Dookie had good singles, but the album was decent at best. There are far better pop punk acts out there.
