It's not a personality... animals dont have personalities but it comes from common interest... for example the lion is lonely so it compensate for the pride by been friends with a dog or so... it's the need of company... like a bastard child with seek a man or women role model as deep down they know they need it.

It is the same for humans. If you have enough for yourself you are totally down to help someone out if they ask for something. Now if you need to hope that you can pay the rent next month, you would not be down to help someone while you need to help yourself. Hence it is easy for animals raised in captivity to get along with those of different species, as long as they know each other since they were young, since the one would not steal any food from the other. The thing that I can not wrap my head around though is that lioness. It almost seemed like she wanted to reform society or something. Truly strange.

@JANET LAMOTHE I don't think you would like all animals in the wild like Predators but also Chimps they go too war in a primitive way and rape sometimes and are bullies and they do kill and eat smaller Apes. These animals that they show were rescued when they were small and they get food so they don't need to hunt. I don't understand why these "experts" are so surprised when they don't need to hunt and get food from humans. Some people are writing " i would like to be friends with them" but many of them would not be so friendly in the wild, this is nice too see on one hand but its also sad they are not living a natural life . To really help people need to change but not tribes that are living the antient way they take only what they need but it is impossible too make everyone think in the same way.

Through no intervention of my own I started finding the kittens curled up with the guinea pig and they were all sleeping. They continuously did this until he passed away. @Bradley Boyer The fact you know what's good and bad is the very reason you shouldn't do bad things....I mean a cat doesn't torture a mouse because it's sadistic, it tortures the cat because it's in its nature. The cat isn't good or bad it just does what every cat does because its nature. Now when a human tortures or kills another, they know exactly the consequences of his or her actions, when a robber robs a bank, they do it wearing a mask because they know it's bad. The fact you think it's ok to do dark things because it suits you at the expense of other living people or living creatures gives me a good understanding what type of person you are. I would go as far to say someone with your outlook lacks intelligence and enlightenment. I guess it's become popular to do bad things these days and then have a poor lazy excuse as to why it's justifiable.

I think with the Jack Russell and the Leopard is that, because the cat is being fed and doesn't have to hunt, kill then eat, that leaves nature to do some unusual things. With food off the Kitty's mind I think he might not even think about it much and it has no prey drive. If they are in a zoo or nature park that means it's not with it's own kind. So what happens...new friends and lots of playing together. That cements the friendship! Who wants to feel alone and sad. Animals have feelings, I think that's been proven time and time again! I'm wondering bout Leo, the Lion. He's a fully grown male lion but where's his mane?? Maybe the poor conditions and lack of good food and nutrition when he was growing. It's most likely that his hormones are whacky. And testosterone is one hormone that tells his brain to tell the body to grow a mane.

Growing up my family had a very gentle black lab. She was the sweetest soul I’ve ever met, wouldn’t hurt a fly. Several years in a row, rabbits would make their nests under the slide of a swing set we had. Every time they had babies and the momma left, she would go right over to the nest, lay down and guard it. When momma came back to the yard, she would up and leave. She never did so much as touch them. My parents were freaked out when they realized she was hanging around this little nest of baby bunnies, but soon realized she caused no hard to them or the mama. I look back and wonder if her scent might have stressed out the mom, but thankfully the bunnies grew just fine and left when they were big enough.

Fatit Also I have to say I don’t know what you mean to say by saying “name another animal that gets as babies as humans do” I think the wording is confusing
Vor 2 years
Blue Stang
Fatit So a newborn fawn can survive without its mother? A nest of baby birds without their parents? Animals mature much more rapidly, yes...but many species rely on their parents many months for survival. The only species I can think of off the top of my head would be most invertebrates, some reptiles, and some fish, which even those rely on their parents for protection for awhile. To be fair, most grown adult humans couldn’t survive out in the wild left to their own devices let alone a child. But that’s mostly due to the fact the we as humans aren’t taught how to do these things. I think you’d be surprised what a young child could be capable of if taught how to survive in the wild, of course not an infant but an older child of at least maybe say 6 or 7. Maturity is something that is forced upon animals because they’re hardwired for survival but you’d be kidding yourself thinking humans aren’t as well, a human put in a hard situation will try their hardest to survive. Just think about it, in some places there are grown adults that don’t know how to hunt or fish or even cook, but in some places there are children that go out by themselves hunting fishing and cooking. I digress, you’re correct to an extent. Most young children wouldn’t last at best a few days out in the wild and a young wild animal would comparatively stand a much better chance. All I’m trying to say is that animals go through a process of growing up not so dissimilar from our own. And forgive me if I seem to argue, that’s not the purpose of any of this, just serving the purpose of discussion.
Vor 2 years

Vor 2 years

JT Rudd Humans have tons of natural instincts that you probably just don’t think about because they are so natural to us. Humans also have lots of learned behaviors but animals do as well. Many animals have to be taught by there parents how to do things, what to eat, what not to eat, where to find things, etc. Animals are products of their environment just as much as we are. We really aren’t so different.

On the question of pet keeping, I sometimes wonder if my cats don't keep me as a pet, or at least there is some case of reciprocity on offering food and care taking. I own a British short hair cat, named Uzume. When she gave birth to a litter of kittens the 2nd born came within a few minutes of the first. Usually there's about a 15 minute span between each kitten being born. That having happened, I had to carefully tear open the placenta or birthing 'sac', as the mother was obviously still busy doing the same and cleaning her first born. Of course I can't be 100% sure, but do now have a very unique relationship with this kitten - it is the most affectionate one I've ever had, but also incredibly empathic and keen to look after me. He often tries or wants to share his food, dragging his food bowl over, brings his toys over to me to 'nest' around me before going to sleep and well...he's just a silly, but remarkable little fellow. Both him and his mother also have a way of 'guarding' and sitting by the food of my bed whenever I've been sick and bed-ridden. It's neither here nor there, but named him Bowie, 'cuz he has black lines around his red/tabby fur as if he's wearing eye-liner and just has an androgynous way about him.

The tiger and the bear are my favorite. Both of them know they could easily kill each other, but they play fight and it’s incredible to see. They’re predatory animals with strong instincts. The fact they both tolerate each other and don’t go for the kill blow when playing is just amazing to see.
Vor 2 years
Sara KenKen
Logan Tharp Not really. They both can hurt or kill each other. Both are super strong and weight is roughly the same (it depends really), let say this particular bear is heavier but a tiger has sharp and strong claws and teeth for killing a big prey. A bear has ones too, but not in the same way. Even if a bear heavier, a tiger has many muscles by genetics, faster technically (not about running). So it really depends on the particular situation. Both are very strong and gracious.

This made me laugh and cry at the same time . We have a small children's farm where we live. When I was a child there was a donkey and a goose. They were inseparable, Always together, even when sleeping. They were a well known couple for 22 years. One day the goose died, The donkey did not come out of his stable for days, mourning and depressed. It was in the local news paper back then. I never forget it

@Ybarek G this is just factually wrong. You've probably never had an animal companion of your own.
Vor 14 TageYbarek G
It's not a personality... animals dont have personalities but it comes from common interest... for example the lion is lonely so it compensate for the pride by been friends with a dog or so... it's the need of company... like a bastard child with seek a man or women role model as deep down they know they need it.
Vor 14 TageHigh Waltage
and where survival isnt the main game... what do you get with animals??? retarded ones made for our pleasure. lol
Vor MonatDaowlOrpheus

Vor 3 MonateBradley Boyer
@A D Volente Lol, what a stupid statement. Please point to where I said doing "bad" things was "okay"? I take it you aren't a real intellectual heavyweight.
Vor 3 MonateA D Volente
Vor 3 MonateBradley Boyer
Why? We are just another species. We can show both play and darkness. We are imperfect, just like all the others.

When animals are young they’re just as impressionable as human children are, they learn to accept certain things as normal and take that with them into adulthood. They’re in a stage when they’re learning about the world just like we do.

@Fatit I honesty don't think it would take long for a human child to go feral. Our self domestication is a bit of an illusion, look how people behave when they are panicked (black friday, toilet paper, etc...).
Vor 2 yearsBlue Stang
Fatit Also I have to say I don’t know what you mean to say by saying “name another animal that gets as babies as humans do” I think the wording is confusing
Vor 2 yearsBlue Stang
Vor 2 yearsFatit
Austin Barrett name another animal that gets as babies as humans do. Young children could never survive in the wild with just instincts compared to almost any animals instincts
Vor 2 yearsBlue Stang

9:30 the way the chimpanzee baby looks at the humans, almost aware of itself is amazing. It almost puts a fresh light on the basic building blocks of life and, for me, makes me wonder it this kind of attraction is not just human and sentient but way, way deeper than that. What is that love, warming chemical and how does that transmit between species. Atomic relationships between life? Is that mother nature? Fascinating.

I enjoyed this video very much. It highlights how little we know about animals on this earth and the necessity of being willing to scrap preconceptions and open our minds to what we observe. What I got from this documentary is that "When your death doesn't mean my survival, we can co-exist happily even if you are fundamentally different". If only humans could take a queue...
Vor 3 yearsMatthew Perkins
in several of these cases it's pretty obvious that they learned this behavior from humans. No species on this planet will ever come close to how good of a job humans do at this.

@Chuck Stone It's bc animals kill only for survival (food & territory) whereas if humans have all the food & territory they need for survival, they still kill just for pure evil or for fun & sport. That's why the human animal needs to take a cue from non-human animals, get it?

Thank you Liz. To me the most important take away is that all animals have intelligence, empathy and emotions. Homo Sapiens are not the only sapient species. Let's start treating all animals with more compassion. I don't want to say 'humanely' - because as a species, we humans can't even achieve that amongst our own kind

What they don’t tell you about the video of polar bears playing with huskies is that those same polar bears came back and ate those same huskies not even a couple days later.

Yeah, I wasn't so happy about that clip. Pretty ignorant, the dogs seemed stressed

Same as humans, if they're not hungry, they'll show love to others... There is a reason why some humans eat dogs. Survival has both physical (nutrition) as well as psychological (attachment/love) aspects to it.

The tiger and the bear are my favorite. Both of them know they could easily kill each other, but they play fight and it’s incredible to see. They’re predatory animals with strong instincts. The fact they both tolerate each other and don’t go for the kill blow when playing is just amazing to see.
Vor 2 yearsSara KenKen
Logan Tharp Not really. They both can hurt or kill each other. Both are super strong and weight is roughly the same (it depends really), let say this particular bear is heavier but a tiger has sharp and strong claws and teeth for killing a big prey. A bear has ones too, but not in the same way. Even if a bear heavier, a tiger has many muscles by genetics, faster technically (not about running). So it really depends on the particular situation. Both are very strong and gracious.
Vor 2 yearsStarvingHub 1
@Thou Swell maybe not easily but I'd say the bear is stronger then the big cat
Vor 2 yearsThou Swell
@StarvingHub 1 I wouldn't go so far as to say "easily," but they are definitely capable of ending the big cat's existence.

We have always had both dogs and cats and they play together, sleep together and are concerned if the other one gets sick or hurt. All of my neighbors say they have experienced the same thing with their pets. my sister had a parakeet that regularly hopped around on her cat and the cat even tolerated the parakeet trying to preen the cat.
