Greyhounds As Pets
Let us match you with your perfect dog today!Visit www.gapnsw.com.au
Had a few sight hounds. I would recommend a lurcher. I Have settled on Bedlington terrier x whippet as greyhounds are hard to train with such things as recall and calling them off a chase. But that's just me and still love sight hounds in general :)
Just realised the name of this channel. Never gonna win this argument lol
Mine only barked when she was feeling playful, she’d spin around, do the play bow and bark once. Just let them in the yard to have a run around a burn off some energy, they are so fun to watch run even if it’s short lived, they tire themselves out quick lol.
😍🤗😘 wonderful dogs. I have a good Time with my Whippet.
Greyhounds are such beautiful dogs inside and out . Love them!
If a cop comes to your house and you have a dog, HIDE YOUR DOG!!! Most dogs have committed a serious crime They have stealed many many hearts
I meant stole
brought to you by the racing industry
I grew up with a Lurcher (greyhound collie mix) but she looked like a pure greyhound. She was so lovely, except for her tendency to fall asleep behind closed doors so going from room to room you had to tenderly open the door to see if she was there lol.
I heard that in years past, when Greyhounds were past their prime, in Spain, the custom was to hang them by their necks from low hanging tree branches, until they suffocated and died. Can you believe the cruelty of humans??
I was staring at the thumbnail going, "Is that Lisa from Bondi Vet?" yep, it is!
Dr lisa is well fit
Aaah just put in my application, can't wait to get one !
I hv grey hound he is too much naught.I can't tell you.bt he is so cute and he is key of happiness in my family
Adopted 2 sisters greyhound from Florida. I am in Canada so I was worried about our tough winters but with a good warm coat, tuque (hat) and boots, both are fine with the Canadian cold. However, they would rather stay inside during our torrid summers as they do not tolerate the humid heat. Terribly affectionate and chatty. Very food driven , quite stubborn. They are like cats: they love sleeping all day. Do not like long walks. And my they do shed during the summer. I vacuum every second day! They are kind and calm....except when their meal takes too long to be served! I get an earful. Love them to bits.
DAMN i really really want a greyhound but my family is set on having a small dog, because we live in an apartment with 5 people....
Greyhounds are great pets, and all they say in this video is true except one item...They do shed plenty. They could wear out any vacuum cleaner. I know this for sure because I have had 3 and they do shed. Still they are as loving and gentle as you could ever hope for. Also there are the worst watch dog ever. But they are still the perfect couch potato.
Hah, "all they have left to do is become a famly pet". I wish man, most of them are discarded, sometimes cruelly tortured before being killed. The percentage of greyhounds living a happy life after racing or hunting carreers is infinitesimal.
@Ruth Hagenbaugh actually they do like to race but making money our of it is wrong. It being a pass time or an activity for your dog is fine but racing being an industry it's just the worst. Galgos do race although it' nothing like in the UK or what you have. I know about it cause galgo rescue groups mention a dog's past and in a lot of cases it was said they were used for both hunt and racing. I was surprised too but at the same time, they gotta train their dogs for the hunt and races are good for that and to select breeders etc so not so surprising either. As for PETA (dunno the other two), they are scum, as disgusting to me as animal abusers, they're some of the worst humanity has to offer and I hate them. Animal activists in general tend to be pretty nuts but PETA is just... it's a whole other level. Like x1000.
@Camille Dabert Since when does Spain race galgos? I just know they use them for hunting along with lurchers and podencos. Yes we still have racing and it's still a big thing here. We are trying to get the amendment to have it banned in FL overturned. It's going to the Supreme Court. It should never have been put in the constitution to begin with but HSUS, Grey2K and PETA paid millions to courts and advertising to get it put on and the people of FL were duped and lied to. We are trying very hard to keep our greyhounds racing. It's what they love to do.
@Ruth Hagenbaugh galgos aren't only hunting, they DO race too. As for activists saying bullshit, I'm the first to despise that believe me. I was talking about england and spain. My bad, I get why my comment was innapropriate. I kiiiiinda forgot that america DID have greyhound racing too. It's just such a small thing there compared to england or spain that I tend to forget. I'm a greyhound lover, and I hate the industry around this breed sooooo fucking much. Planning to adopt my own galgo in the next couple months. Sorry if I forgot america xD
Where are they tortured before being killed? Have you seen it yourself? Activists lie all the time to get donations to feed their pockets. Greyhounds in the USA are NEVER tortured or killed. All retired racing greyhounds get adopted or kept by their owners as pets. Because of less breeding now, there is a shortage of greyhounds to adopt with waiting lists at adoption groups throughout the US and Canada. Sadly though, galgos used for hunting in Spain are killed or left to starve to death. There are rescue groups there trying to save as many as they can to get adopted. But racing greyhounds are not killed.
No.. no greyhound anymore
Why no greyhounds anymore? What's wrong?
4:57 whats with the crates of Cola?
Hello I. Used to have greyhounds in my time and I use to raced them and I rehome them yes i love ❤️ greyhounds
Help needed! I've always wanted a borzoi (russian wolfhound) but recently i've heard they're very hard to train and overly stubborn. So now I'm considering a greyhound. I'm also a little displeased with greyhounds because i don't like how the fur feels, and if they're much smaller than borzois. I'd prefer a big dog. Can anyone tell me which is better?
Sounds like you've already made up your mind.
Hi mam My greyhound gave birth to two female puppies Their name Gracy Lonesome cry Nova Lonesome cry They are grand daughters of Lonesome cry dog.His race you can see www.greyhoundrace .data
I've had a greyhound for a while now. They are great pets but can be very mischievous. They love to cuddle!
Lovely dogs... ❤️
Google RTE news on Greyhounds in Ireland.. watch how this country murders their Greyhounds. Sending dogs who no longer can race, sent to knackered yards to be shot and dumped for €10.00.. See how they are shipped to China to the meat market to be boiled alive and hacked to death with meat clevers.. See how this country called Ireland hide a dirty secret in their Greyhounds..
@Debinikita No, I am telling the truth. You are believing the lies and living in lala land. So sad for you.
China does not use greyhounds for meat. That is a big lie from activists to get money to bring them to other countries. Greyhounds in China are used for breeding, then sent to groups for adoption. Don't believe the lies.
I love my greyhound- Rosie she is loyal, friendly and gentle
I have had 2 boys in the past, both really laid back. Mark 3 is "Ludo", He is the totally against the norm, he is "shoutty" , very possessive, does not like to be alone (he has eaten the inside of the front door) and HATES small dogs who bark at him but although so different from the previous ones I love him to bits!!!
This is misleading!!!!!! Dogs that come from racing have A LOT of trauma. They don’t just slide into normal life style. God. This is setting up people to rescue and then think somethings wrong when their dog won’t leave the corner.
@Samantha Golper How was she traumatized? What did you see? Greyhounds in the USA are not traumatized at the kennels. They get plenty of human interaction all day, every day. They get exercised, rub downs, play time, hugs, kisses and plenty of treats. Your greyhound was just born skittish. Some are. I had a little girl here that was so skittish she would hide from us in the kitchen or run upstairs until she got to know us. She was never traumatized or hurt in any way. It's just the way some greyhounds are. They have nothing to be traumatized about. You are misinformed and jumping to conclusions about the care of your girl before she was retired and adopted, not rescued. I have been fostering and adopting greyhounds for 19 years. I work with adoption groups and kennel owners. I know them personally. How many do you know personally? Just because you adopted a greyhound, it doesn't make you an expert on their care before you adopted her. If you try hard enough, you can probably find her handler who took care of her at the kennel and get her background. And I am not a sir. My name should've given you the hint.
Ruth Hagenbaugh considering I RESCUED A GREYHOUND, I feel as though I am not misinformed. My greyhound is a rescued racing dog, and was INCREDIBLY traumatized from her experiences. Loud noises, other dogs running, even plastic bag flying by, can cause her to cry, shake and go into her corner. It took over a year.. a full YEAR for her to be able to be around another dog without feeling her traumatizing last. You sir, are judgmental and ignorant. It’s ignorant to assume when you rescue that a dog will assimilate to their environment fast. Each individual goes at their own pace.
What the hell are you talking about? Greyhounds settle in to home life very easily because of the love and care they received before they were adopted. They aren't traumatized. They are a little confused with this new life, but they adjust quickly. Some greyhounds are skittish by nature, but once they get to know you, they come out of their shells very quickly. Greyhounds aren't rescued either, they are retired and adopted. You are really misinformed.
I have a greyhound female she is expected Can i make her run and play with ball
You can't make a greyhound do anything. They go at their own pace.
I have had 2 female Greyhounds and a Lurcher boy who was 90% Greyhound and 10% Saluki. The gentlest dogs ever. At the moment I have a rescued English Setter girl (14), and a rescued Rottie (11) and would not wish them away for a moment, but when a vacancy occurs I will be looking for a Greyhound or, because they are like gold in France, a Galga (Spanish Greyhound, not quite the same).
may I know difference between greyhound - mudual hound - Rajapalayam hound
I refuse to do the Green Collar test for our greyhounds. The money goes straight to the racing industry. Rather pay the the council fines at least that goes to good use
I used to work at a greyhound track (one of my first jobs) and working there always made me want to adopt a retired greyhound. I have a dog now, she's a doberman shepherd collie mix (a friends sister's dog had an accidental litter) but if I find myself in a place where I can take in a second dog it will definitely be a greyhound!
We had two grehounds when I was a child. I used to throw myself all over Ginger, the younger one (he was the same age as me). If I was in trouble or upset, he would sit or lay stoically and let me hug or lie on him. I still miss him, my prince!
Is there a Green Collar programme in New Zealand?
They require professional dental cleaning at least once a year, maybe twice, along with daily toothbrushing. $$$$
We’ve adopted two over the years...total loves!! Grey’s are GREYT!! 💛👍🏼😃
"25 minute mark" my ass
This video isn’t presenting a clear picture, because it’s leaving out the negatives. A greyhound will spend the first year learning to live in society. This will take patience and consideration on your part. You will need to know the proper way to socialise your dog. Some will take awhile to bond with you and you cannot let them off a leash unless they are in an enclosed area. Some chase and kill cats, some won’t. Generally, not being barkers, they won’t bark to let you when someone comes to the door.
They do bark. And they do shed. Don’t mislead people. I will say that two greyhounds I’ve had and have heard them bark only 3 times in the 10 years I’ve had them.. the one I just adopted, she’s a barker .. it depends on the dog. BUT THEY DO SHED! Just like any other dog.
The perfect pet got to be my Staffordshire bull terrier (Jess)
I’ve watched several videos on greyhounds and I’ve decided to get one! Thanks for this video.
We owned 2 greyhounds, we loved them. Everyone that met them described them as sweet. Both of them have passed now, but the love and memories of the 2 of them will never die.
• OMG WOW Thanks eligant multi info æ elsker denne videjoen+atte de forklarer å omskolerer hunder💓☯️🤩😍🤤♻️💓
Yes, true and amen. Keep up the good work.
One of our greyhounds struggled to go up & down steps. He would back across the kitchen floor. He never felt comfortable on non carpeted floors.
30 to 40 minutes a day exercise is normal for a dog? A dog needs to be walked for at least 2 hours a day. Or would you be happy to be 23 and a half hours locked up in a house?
Do you actually have a greyhound? I'm guessing not. Even breed experts agree they need surprisingly little exercise and 2 x 20 minute walks/runs - although probably the minimum - is quite sufficient for them. A grey will quite happily sleep for most of the day as long as they can be let out for toilet breaks. I accept that many breeds will need more than that - and most greyhound owners in reality probably walk them for longer than this. But its perfectly true that they don't require hours of exercise.
sorry its not a cult..They are just incredible animals and 'ones a greyhound always a greyhound'. From a proud Galgo owner. ;-)
My grey barks at other dogs , cats, birds .....anything that moves really and she sheds alot, she does sleep alot and is very lazy, except 30 seconds of zoomies every now and then.
The reason greyhounds are so incredible is because racers care more about health than beauty. My concern is that the Florida ban will eventually lead greyhounds to the show dog corruption that has destroyed so many wonderful breeds( Eng. Bulldog, Fr bulldog, pug, pekingese, German shepherd, Cav, golden retriever, Great Dane off the top of my head)
That's an interesting point, however, although many breeds suffer from bad breeding and show dog standards, there are many breeders who breed for health and temperament in pedigrees. All it takes is one look at a working line of German shepherds vs a show line to probe the difference. Greyhounds will continue as a healthy breed when tracks and racing shut down, theres such a loyal sighthound community who love the breed, they wouldn't let it die out or become deformed by bad breeding.
I miss my childhood friends Red and Rolly, Honey and Hazy, Lady and Snowy and many others RIP.
Here in the US, greyhounds aren't required to be muzzled in public at all, it's at the discretion of the owner.
Greyhounds are the sweetest little angels good with dogs and all ages of people I had one that raced, so sad he was named John boy
This horrible you are supporting greyhound racing
And you are a total idiot. Whip marks. What a joke. You are totally deranged. Get help immediately. You probably don't even know what a greyhound is. Moron.
Ruth Hagenbaugh oh and take care of your self at your age you need to be seriously we care about “Mental” people like you
Ruth Hagenbaugh oh sorry we don’t need your article anymore because we just did one on a greyhound with whip marks on his back so sorry baby enjoy your healthy life
@ellie600 Still waiting for you to show up at my house. Did you call your lawyer yet? I'm not loosing anything there sweetie, so try again. Maybe you should try your own advice and contact mentalmagazine. Keep those greyhounds racing!
Ruth Hagenbaugh I’m sorry but what threats, it’s ok though as a 65 year old your probably a losing it so it’s ok sweetheart but seriously you should email us at email@example.com
I wouldn't care if they shed, barked, smelled, or needed two hours of exercise a day. They're so majestic and loving any supposed nuisance would be worth owning one. I had a Scottie for nearly 15 years who was all the above, was actually quite naughty at times and nevertheless the light of my life and I loved him to bits.
I have a whippet and he is one of the best things that has happened to me. Greyhounds, Whippets, and Italian Greyhounds are the sweetest animals ever. ❤️😊 If you are looking for a smaller dog than get an Italian Greyhound, if you don’t really care get a Whippet or a Greyhound. These breeds are so gentle and easygoing.
Although i prefer German Shepherds, Greyhounds just gives me the feeling of being near royalty.
Cookie Crusher they’re basically royalty, they just look so regal and magestic
I’m definitely getting a grey after my two. It’s funny how everyone gets a puppy but when I got my Jack Russell mix puppy I’m just like I’m never going to get a puppy again. I just loooooove greys so much and they match my lifestyle and personality so perfectly.
11 out of 17 tracks are being closed in the U.S (North America) if you want to adopt, now would be a good time. I'm sure rescue organizations will be flooded and overwhelmed, so please consider adopting or adding to your family! Rescue these furbabies and stop greyhound racing and abuse. :D https://www.grey2kusa.org/eNEWS/g2k-11-6-18b.html?fbclid=IwAR2_pSg0FMx776itCyN3Nw8C4VMxBQnc6GFdZCMgDojv99uEyqUz6NWSG0k
There is no abuse in greyhound racing. That is a total lie told by ar activists. Greyhounds are the best kept and cared for animals around. Stop believing the lies. Grey2Crazy is lying all the time to get people to donate money for their lavish vacations and salaries and lobbying. They never give a dime towards any greyhound adoptions or care of greyhounds. They never go to any kennels or farms to see the care greyhounds get so they make up lies about their treatment. They can't tell the truth. Then they wouldn't make any money and they would have to get real jobs.
I ❤❤❤GREYHOUNDS! PLEASE HELP FLORIDA RESCUES AND ADOPT AND/OR FOSTER!!!
We have. Twice!
Chan D can I adopt if I am out of state ??
