My favorite version of this story is a young king has to go to war and leaves his wife behind. The queen gets the news that they were all kiled and she of course is very upset. Three years passed but the queen was still in mourning. Then one day she was crying in the garden next to a well and her wedding ring fell of into the water. Then a frog offered her to fish it out if she does what was mentioned in this video. She promises him this but when she gets her ring back she is so overjoyed that she forgets the frog in the garden. Then everything plays out pretty much the same except frog asks the queen to kiss him. Queen is disgusted and angry because she still loves her late husband and offers maid to do it. The frog cries that the queen must do it so she gives in. And lo and behold - the frog was her husband who was cursed by neighbouring countries witch and the only way to break that curse was a kiss from a girl. The king loved this wife so much that he wanted to get a kiss not from any random girl but his beloved wife. WE LOVE THE LOYAL KING.

The Disney movie is actually inspired by a book by E.D. Baker, wherein the princess has a spell reversal charm that causes her to turn into a frog when she kisses the prince rather than the prince becoming human again

In the movie the creepy man is actually the voodoo deity named Barron Samedi. Even though the name is cool, he is not someone you want to mess with. He acts more of a deal with the devil sort of character. One will sell their soul or prized possessions to gain something in return, but like the deal with the devil, it never goes as planned. But barron Samedi is a real deity in the creole voodoo practitioners. Idk I thought it was something cool to point out

Woooahhh I heard this story in school I had to read paragraphs during a test and this was one except it was a bit different 4:00 In the version I read I she didn't have a golden ball she had some kind of hat and she was playing somewhere she wasn't supposed to and accidentally dropped her hat in a pond she was terrified that her dad would find out cuz it was a brand new hat but suddenly a frog appeared he said he'd get the hat for her as long as she in return let him have dinner with her let him sleep in his hat sung him a song and gave him a kiss She tricked him and as soon as she got her hat back she dashed back home He appeared at the door and knocked the father opened the door and he got rlly angry at her blah blah in the end she kissed him and he turned into a gorgeous prince and she regretted her past mistakes I can't rlly remember it was a few yrs ago but he said something along the lines before she kissed him that he would turn into a prince and whoever set him free would be his bride Wow big plot twist he left her because she was a bad person Oh I forgot to mention in the story I read she was like a child I think

I love Robin McKinney's version of princess' and the frog in 'the door in the hedge: and other stories'. The only exception is that the princess is honourable and even though embarrassed agrees to keep her promise to the frog including keeping secret that he can talk. The frog says he'll come at dinner time, and the princess returns to the castle. The frog throws himself at the door and the princess opens it. The king asks who it is and she tells him the story of losing the ball and inviting the frog to stay when he retrieved it for her. The king is thoughtful, and agreed that one should keep their promise. During the first night the frog and princess talk and she shares her pain and sadness regarding a visiting sorcerer prince that is sucking the Joy out of their lives. The frog asks her to take him to the king court the next day. The sorcerer prince ridicules the princess for having an ugly frog for a pet, and the frog lets out a big froggy noise. The sorcerer prince is shaken and grabs the frog by its leg and throws it against the wall. No spoilers here 😲 read the tale to find out the ending and the final twists to this version of the princess and the frog. 😜

I find myself wondering where this story originated, and whether or not in the earliest versions "frog" could have been an ethnic slur for the Franks (or later the French). Because if so, it might be a fable saying racism is bad centuries ahead of its time.

I was always very fond of the dad-king, telling his stupid-bi*** daughter to put her money where her mouth is and keep the promise she gave to the frog. But I would enjoy this story even more, if the prince turned on his heel and walked away from that shallow girl immediately after his metamorphosis, saying that he doesn't care for a princess who treats others like trash if their appearance doesn't appeal to her. Now, what I'm really not fond of is the moral of the Disney movie telling girls that all their hard work is not worth a thing and their dreams won't come true if they don't get support from wealthy, powerful men.

My favourite version of this story is actually a reversed version. It's a more modern telling (I think it's modern, I read it as a kid and I've never heard anyone talk about it in pop culture, so I think it's newer) wherein the prince gets turned into a frog for reasons I don't remember. Pretty sure he was being a huge jerk though. He couldn't find a princess to kiss him and he can't speak so no one in the palace knows it's him and they chase out the icky frog. The story actually spends a good bit of time showing the prince getting used to his knew Froggy body, and having to go through things like learning to eat bugs and hoping around and swimming and such. The prince actually accepts his fate and decides to live his life as a frog. He even mates with a female frog that becomes his wife, and has two froggy babies with her. Mymemory is a bit muddy here too, but one day he happens to be sitting near a princess by a well, and she's aware of the old Fairy tale of frogs turning into princes, so she kisses him just to see if it will work. It does, and he becomes human again. He's actually a bit upset about it at first, but agrees to go with her back to her palace where they can clothe and feed him and he can tell her his story. He takes one look behind him as he leaves, and looks forlornly at the grass, where he can see his frog wife and his frog babies that he has to leave behind. And that's the end. This version always stuck with me, because not only is it the reverse of the typical story, but it's a very melancholy, and I would argue, sad ending. The prince embraces his punishment and makes a new life for himself, and has to relive that punishment all over again when the curse his broken, and he once again has to leave his old life behind. He had a whole family that he was happy with, and he just had to abandon his wife and kids because humans can't be with frogs. I always found it to be a very sad story, and I've never read another version like it.

I am pretty sure that in my german story version the prince wanted to eat, sleep and get a kiss. The princess was beautiful and he kind of had a crush on her. So he dives down to the ground over and over again until he had her golden ball. But she was mean and disrespectful to him. And first she threw him to the wall but her father wants to teach her a lesson about doing what you promised and said even if she is a princess she have to give him this kiss because he supported her when she had a problem. She gives him the kiss in tears and was really discussed. Bibedibabedibu he turns into a prince and she instantly fell in love with him but he has seen what a bad person she is and did not want her anymore and drove away. 🙌🏻

@🚀Kalle🚀  🚀Kalle🚀  No need to be snippy. We were having a rather nice debate after all. Besides, fairy tales are cautionary tales not meant for entertainment. Just because I find a different lesson than the one you see does not give you the right to weakly attempt psychoanalysis. I never said the stories weren't successful, I just don't see the point of being someone's doormat or punching bag all for the sake of someone you just met or marry someone just because they're pretty or because you go through one traumatic experience with them without spending a significant amount of time with them.

@🚀Kalle🚀  🚀Kalle🚀   🚀Kalle🚀  I was told the stories and liked them well enough as a kid. Then I found the Grimm Brothers and found them better and far more practical than Disney. All Disney ever taught me ij their first princess movies is that if you're pretty, you're good and good things happen to you. Snow White did nothing but be a damsel in distress, Cinderella had one rebellious act and married a prince, Sleeping Beauty took a nap. Most of the princesses were passive characters in their own movies. Even the Grimm Brothers versions have the love at first sight due to being pretty that honestly sounds more like lust at first sight because their husbands always fall for them because they're pretty. If anything, the fairy tales teach us to be superficial instead of cultivating a meaningful relationship based on trust and respect that are some of the bases of love

Vor 4 Monate
🚀Kalle🚀
🚀Kalle🚀

@IkedaSerra Nice to know you never got told fairy tales when you were a kid. Otherwise you would have known that the moral of the story is that you shouldn't be superficial. And you'd have known they'd end up loving each other and even getting married.

As far as marrying Prince Naveen and breaking the spell because she turned into a princess, wouldn't that be inaccurate? A princess would be a girl born to a king and queen who upon being married would be given the title of queen herself and vice versa for a prince, so technically Tiana would simply become a queen with her and Naveen remaining frogs.

I was thinking of maybe a better rendition to the story, more faithful than this retelling... Since they wanted black characters and so to make the title of "the princess and the frog" more in tune with the background, i'd set it in medieval ethiopia, more precisely when the kingdom was divided. It could be set in other african kingdoms but I think what I thought of would make more sense in a more familiar structure. First, the power couple are both royalty of neighboring kingdoms, small ones but kingdoms none the less. And to be faithful to the original it's more a pinochio story, the story was largely ruined by turning the princess into a supremely virtuous character, let's make them both heavily flawed learning from each other's mistake. The story starts with the prince and his family, his father is very old and neighboring death but still healthy, his mother on the other hand is very young (let's say around thirty) and fated to die due to a pregnancy which would result, let's say, into his little sister. The king tries everything, doctors from all over the world, all kinds of charlatans, to no avail, all in the span of 7 months, until he finds a vodum priest of the death loa from far away lands. He's painted in the beggining of the story as an evil character and a general tone of a "servant of the devil" is to be used. The vodum priests say that usually his god wouldn't allow such a feat, but since he's on faraway lands of foreign gods, old, and in need of an acolite he offers a trade, a life for a life, but this is only explained latter, leaving the young prince to believe a sibling would be offered to be killed in sacrifice. The king accepts the offer despite the protests of the bishop and priests and his mother is healed and give's birth to his sister right after his father dies of old age in his sleep. The prince, now to be crowned a king backs down on the agreement and is then he tells the priest to go back to his swamp before he decides to execute him, which causes the priest to curse him to become a swamp critter and to dwell in the swamp and the clausure of the curse is not revealed. It then cuts to what would be tiana (or maybe the order is reversed), which would very well mimic the original story, she has a trinket she loves to play with by the river, and here the idea of fending of the heat makes a lot of sense, and loses the trinket in the river she's swimming in. The frog, which is the prince, offers to retrieve the trinket in exchange for a favor, which is to sleep, dine and live with her for three days, and the princess accept with no intention to fulfill her end of the bargain but with a different mentality "if my servants don't get to ask for favors and tremble in fear, why should a frog be recompensed?" The trinket is returned and the princess refuses the favor and the frog prince turns at the castle to demand his restitution. Instead of the father demanding his daughter to behave, we get the king offering several other things as restitution to placate the frog/prince, and he refuses and insists on the original agreement. The prince/frog turns to stalk the princess, which order guards to try to kill the frog to no avail, who either refuse out of fear or just fail and give up. In this short segment the prince tries to kiss the princess and succeeding she turns into a frog and the swamp segment plays out. They both are compelled to return to the swamp because the curse does not allow them to stay out of it for long. After some misadventures he confides he didn't listen well to the curse being cast and they then stumble into a young 5-7 years old woods witch, and the princess demands her to tell them how to break up their curse. She says that she's not as learned as her master, but that she will try to figure out, and sends them to procure ingredients to a divining spell where more musings occur. They come back with the materials, she performs a spell and tells them that her master had told her of the story before and that she's no equipped to dispel the curse but her master is coming back soon and he'll be able to fix it. Then it cuts to the prince's kingdom where the queen regent leads a hunting party into a swamp looking for the prince, and it's revealed that they thought the prince was only cursed to go mad and live in the swamp, so they search in swamps in hope to finding the prince. It then cuts back to the power couple and the priest who came back, scarring the prince into a fenzied run and the princess into vocal demands, the pince is stopped by the little witch who calls him brother and tells him to do it for mom, who's worried sick searching for him. And then she tells the terms of the curse: "You shall roam the swamp as one of it's creatures as you such defamed me, as you rejected hospitality and honor to the foreign man, your state shall remain as such until you teach foreign royalty what you failed to learn." It then clicks on the princess' head that she had heard the story about a missing prince from a larger, richer and neighboring kingdom and it knots her stomach how she had mistreated him all this way. The curse is then lifted to both in tears. His mother's party finds him and then it's told that to placate the sorcerer she offered the newborn as an apprentice because at least she wouldn't miss her mom so much, fearing that he might curse the kingdom further and also as a way to get him out of their lands, that she also offered riches to get her son back to which the priest replied "he'll come back once he learns his lesson his debt is his to pay alone. For now your debt is paid and I shall leave this land as my god commands me". It ends with both of them marrying and the kingdoms uniting and everyone living happy ever after. Now, the idea is to sorta mimic the usual fable and make them both very flawed, his flaw being obvious paranoia and xenophobia, and he was that way because his kingdom was in decline, his mother was terribly sick, he was young and was soon to take a bunch of responsibilities that he felt he knew nothing of it, so he saw as enemies everything foreign and different, even those trying to help. Her flaw is callousness and arrogance, she's that way because her mother died before she was waned and her father spoiled her to avoid her falling into depression. It's also heavily implied that she's a little nihilistic and that she was traumatized by the loss of her mother and is in denial of that. I like this idea because there are no real villains, only phantoms of ones, which is something very frequent in ancient fables but absent in disney.
