I know I’m super late to the party...but have you seen the new preview for Disney’s live action Mulan? It appears to be pretty true to this version, The Legend of Hua Mulan, even using the same name instead of Fa Mulan. I’m excited to hear any perspective you may have should you share it with us...if you were to do another ama........so I’ll just leave this comment here in case you see it 😁

Also I just want you to know that I love your videos and I always watch the recaps even if I've seen them before. I hope your channel continues to grow and that you keep pumping out the messed up origins because I will watch all of the new ones you post even if I know about them already.

Can you do a part 3 and talk about the version that she takes her fathers place in war, and then he died while she was at war and came back to her mother being remarried and asked to be a concubine of the ruler so she commits suicide?

People said that she came home and her family has ben murdered and then she did a ritual called sububu and that ritual is you put a sword in your body for th e real story

What's messed up about either of these origins tho

This version is the more relatable one to the 2020 Mulan compared to the Disney animated version. Thanks for opening up my mind, I thought the animatted version is the “real” one, but it was also adjusted from the original version (which still unknown its truth)

I watched another Mulan adaptation and thought it was the 2020 version. I'm so confused, I thought this year's Mulan is the first live action. So dumb to figured it out late. But the movie you mentioned is still different from that. The characters there are Hua Mulan and Wantei. It would be better if you mentioned all the adaptations and their differences. So there will be no mystery behind. Even the she suicide when she's asked to be a concubine.

I just watched the live action movie yesterday and... SPOILER There’s a scene where she decides to confess to the commander that she was a woman due to the three important rules/promises being Loyal, Brave, and True (true being the problem, because she’s lying about her gender). But before she gets a chance the commander tells her that he was impressed by her skills and chi and that he would like to have her marry his daughter (believing that she was a man) and she more or less agrees not wanting to make the commander disappointed.

Wow this seems way more interesting than the Disney live action Mulan 🤘

The true reason why the "Huns" attacked was because the Emporer killed the Huns leader. The reason why was because the emporer wanted him to bow. But because that was disrespectfull a war started. And then the war started and then chaos errupts while the chinese are trying to cover up their information

There are many versions of Mulan folktales and they've asian tv series to watch too. There are few others women warriors before her too, so it been told that she isn't the first woman to disguised as a man. All stories related all the same where she has no healthy relatives in her multigenerational family household, which leads her to step up and protect her father and defend for her country. The stories are figment pieces which makes Fa Mulan for who we think she is. Be it a real person or the representative for all of our historical women warriors that protected their families and their home of China.

Mulan does have a little brother in the Disney movie... but he’s a dog so...

I kind of wish your playlist was oldest to newest because I want to wait to the end of the video, but I have to click on the next one to watch it in order. It makes a peaceful series like watching into something slightly more tedious. I might be the only one that feels that way. I know some people don't mind watching things out of order, but when references are made to previous episodes, it makes me feel out of the loop. I really like your videos.

Besides the Disney version I only ever heard the version, where China looses the war and mulan returns to her family where her father died so she commits suicide.

The origin of Mulan is from a Chinese poem, and I have to learn it at school( yes bc im from Hong Kong) but no one knows if mulan is actually real

BUT one must remember Mulan's father is frail. Had he been in younger and more capable...Yeah I doubt she would've bested her father. So remember the context everybody.

Hua is not pronounced Who-ah Its pronounced wha. Imagine saying the word What without enunciating the t. Also, the word ends in a down tone.

Please considering doing a part 3 of this subject comparing the Chinese 2009 version of Mulan starring Vicki Zhao Wei as Mulan with the upcoming 2020 Disney version with Liu Yifei in the Mulan role. Maybe release your comparison by Chiristmas 2020?

I don't even remember where I heard this, but I remember hearing one version of Mulan where she went to war, revealed her identity after winning it, they took it rather well too, but when she got home, not only did she find that her father had died, but her mother had remarried a very abusive man who hurt her and Mulan regularly to the point where Mulan was greaving so much for her parents that she actually killed herself, her mother, again out of grief, following not too long after.

The one that I read is that after coming home from the war she found out that her father was dead and that her mother got remarried to the hun that they defeated and wants to be her concubine. Mulan feeling that all her deeds went to waste killed herself.

China has a long history of woman fighters so .... I just never felt like not letting her fight would actually happen? I have usta live with to Malaysian girl and they said that everyone girls and boys must go through military training when they become a young adult, so .... they don't really like the movie, they said it was a western ideal.
