@Olaf Lesniak It's absurd to call the Witness a bad game, it's leagues above just about any puzzle games ever made except Baba Is You. The "philosophical" commentary is absolutely pretentious and has almost nothing to do with the game itself or arrives at any interesting points, but even so that hardly detracts from the game at all, just don't play the audio tapes if you don't want to.

@Diogo Cabral if you're assessing it as a whole, then you can't just ignore the commentary/narrative in the assessment. If the commentary/narrative ruined the whole thing for you, then you can certainly call it a bad game. End of the day it's just their opinion. Imo it's a beautiful game with some initially interesting puzzles, but it ultimately couldn't solve one of the more compelling puzzles in games, which is how to harmonize narrative & gameplay. I'd be willing to bet Baba Is You may do a better job at that, and while not quite a puzzle game, I know Outer Wilds pulls it off.

@Gmr Leon Disregarding the entirity of the actual gameplay, which is 99,9% of the game, because there are some secret audio tapes with bad philosiphical commentary, completely reasonable criticism /s Their opinion is a crap opinion. Also I don't really think The Witness failed to "harmonize narrative & gameplay", there just isn't really any narrative, and it's fine like that, _some_ of the audio tapes do try to relate to the game's themes but I'd hardly call that the narrative of the game.

@Benjamin Baxter I was specifically thinking about the part at the end where he's mocking the secret in The Witness where the player character wakes up and starts seeing the line puzzles everywhere, having seen it done completely seriously in The Witness and thinking how poignant of a message it was, it's so much funnier to see the absurdity of this game about line puzzles. Especially where he calls the books "nerd shit" but with the book of line puzzles for kids he says "now that's a book", making fun of how Johnathan Blow seemingly sees The Witness as this artistic masterpiece and such a high brow work of fiction when it's mostly just line puzzles. Not hating on The Witness, I still love that game, it's just great satire is able to point out the absurdity of things you know that you never thought to think about before

I have legitimately never even heard of the game that this is apparently a parody of and yet this still works as its own game even in terms of at least some of its humor. Gods, it's so nice to see a parody that isn't just lazy given how sadly rare that is.

There was that one Rayman game that was pretty good.

The Witness is one of my favorite games, I feel like I could even be an expert at it. However, this game just looks to insanely difficult. I can only imagine that the developer was cast into the void by Cthonic gods after creating such an abomination of mental anguish.

Dunkey used 1.38% of his brain for this game. Such talent is something I can't comprehend.

This is the first game where you have to really FEEEL like somebody that looks. Other games don't require you to look usually but this game really makes use of all your senses. EVEN your vision!

Sometime I noticed, the puzzle at 0:29 doesn't have a proper way through the maze. They literally made you think outside the box, and I think that's neat.

the kid's menu puzzle is what sends this over the edge into pure genius.

None of the menu items are plural because that would create a puzzle "Start" point

The only joke that is dependent on playtime is the intro/castle courtyard and the laser. Everything else is just "line puzzle" joke. I guess audiologs but again that's a super early thing.

@CYJANEK every time something moved slow there was a reason for it, there was something else to notice or do while the animation is playing, as for the boxes, those are fast enough that you cant get to the top of the mountain before they fire. and the whole game was made such that you could run to any single place within a minute. It does want you to take a more meditative approach to playing, but it really doesn't force you into one. Exception being that hour long movie, but like, thats a running joke throughout his games and fully optional to do as well. I feel it respected my time much more then any AAA game with boring cutscenes and grinding for bs

@DemonixTB I disagree personally. Don't get me wrong, I don't need my hand to be held, but a big problem with the game is also, fittingly enough given the theme of the game, getting the perspective of the devs. Now the puzzles themselves aren't the problem, but a common complaint I've seen in the game is that its difficult get the gimmick of each section of puzzles. Some are easy like the tree with the apple, but others like the bird chirps or the sonar are so hard to guess what the puzzle meant. Same with the slow bits, you know that something is there but you don't know where and if you miss it, you have to painstakingly go through the entire slow ride again. The art, theming, and even some of the puzzles are pretty good. And I don't fault those that enjoy it because there are things to enjoy. But this game has some bullshit and it purposely skips out on several Quality of Life mechanics for the sake of its "Art." And I hated that running "gag" of the developer where he wastes a real life hour of my life to do nothing but wait. It was bullshit in Braid, and its bullshit here. It does not respect my time.

This got me to thinking how there are very few parody or spoof games out there. There are games that parody elements of other games, but rarely a game that’s just a parody of a single game. It’s kinda refreshing.
