Going from the major IV to the minor IV (the latter not being in the same key; it’s borrowed from the parallel minor) is what gives it its effect. One of my favorite resolutions, for sure. The ascension of the melody from the 5th to the 6th to add a bit of extra tension before resolving back to Dmajor is also a nice touch.

This is the first video game I ever played, when I was about 7 years old. My grandpa bought me a GBA for my birthday. Before then I had literally never heard of video games (very sheltered family) so understandably my mind was completely blown. I played the remastered Super Mario Advance, the only game I had, for countless hours. I have so much nostalgia connected to this game I have to stop myself from typing forever. I’ll keep it at least somewhat brief and say thanks for this video, it unlocked a nostalgia door in my brain & inspired me to dig up my old Gameboy

While it wasn’t my first Video Game, GBA ver. Super Mario World was incredible as a kid. I still haven’t been able to beat Boswer. 💀

Playing this every night with my father before bed in 1988 & 1989, I remember the first time we beat Wart. I was 5 and it was one of the best memories I have with my Dad. Watching these speed run breakdowns is something he would have found so incredible interesting! Video games are more than just pixels, they are living memories and tributes.

Ive been sick for 3 full days. These videos have kept me more than occupied. Thank you for putting so much effort into these. Intro makes me tear up every time for some reason. I

I very rarely rewatch videos that I’ve seen before. But I just rewatched this video after seeing it about a year ago. And I enjoyed every second of it again. Summoning Salt is the master and a pioneer of this genre of videos.

The amount of research and dedication put into making this is inspiring. Been watching this dude for a long time and I'm just here cheering for him to reach 1M subs 😁

My favorite speedrunning trope is when everyone discovers some major time saving techniques, but some previous record holder has been quietly perfecting the old techniques and comes in with an unexpected world record. Seems that that's happened in multiple videos. I think Doom was one.

I really like that SS acknowledged that it’s very likely people were speed running this game since it came out. I remember my step brother and his friends (who were several years older than me) use to time each other beating Contra. I have no idea how well they did but if those knuckle heads were doing it, my guess is there were many others. But yeah, without video evidence (or some kind of written record), it’s all conjecture. Again though, appreciate the shout out to the old school peeps.

August 2021 Update: IluvMario and COOLKID continued to rival in competing for the Mario 2 World Record. Not so soon after Salt’s video on this released, IluvMario beat COOLKIDS 8:16 with a 15. It stood there for a bit until recently, COOLKID came BACK again and dropped it to a 8:13 . A whole 2 seconds lower. And that’s where it stands as of when I commented this lol.

Honestly from watching the video at the end I came to the conclusion that currently 8:13 was as low as you could get but I'm glad I read this comment for an update on that thank you

Now that your channel has been going for a while I think a really cool video idea would be to go over your past videos with an update letting us know "where the record stands today".

Speedrunning these games I played as a kid is so impressive to me! Some of these tips are things kids figured out or did accidentally in the 80's like the ladder jumps here or the flag pole glitch in smb1 I was doing in 1993 but didn't know how or why. These guys figure out the science and implement it, so cool!

COOLKID is on the verge of achieving the unthinkable, a sub 8:10. He just needs to find the right strategy for World 4, a way to get a faster World 6, and the perfect setup going into Wart, who's on a global time once COOLKID starts World 1-1.

This has quickly become my favorite channel. The amount of time this stuff takes to actually research and the genuine admiration for these records and the speedrunnning craft in general is so nice to see. I've never even speedrun something in my life, but I'm a genuine fan
