@@Rafterz it’s a I-ii-IV-iv in D major, commonly called a minor plagal cadence. Going from the major IV to the minor IV (the latter not being in the same key; it’s borrowed from the parallel minor) is what gives it its effect. One of my favorite resolutions, for sure. The ascension of the melody from the 5th to the 6th to add a bit of extra tension before resolving back to Dmajor is also a nice touch.

This is the first video game I ever played, when I was about 7 years old. My grandpa bought me a GBA for my birthday. Before then I had literally never heard of video games (very sheltered family) so understandably my mind was completely blown. I played the remastered Super Mario Advance, the only game I had, for countless hours. I have so much nostalgia connected to this game I have to stop myself from typing forever. I’ll keep it at least somewhat brief and say thanks for this video, it unlocked a nostalgia door in my brain & inspired me to dig up my old Gameboy

Playing this every night with my father before bed in 1988 & 1989, I remember the first time we beat Wart. I was 5 and it was one of the best memories I have with my Dad. I really like that SS acknowledged that it’s very likely people were speed running this game since it came out. I remember my step brother and his friends (who were several years older than me) use to time each other beating Contra. I have no idea how well they did but if those knuckle heads were doing it, my guess is there were many others. But yeah, without video evidence (or some kind of written record), it’s all conjecture. August 2021 Update: IluvMario and COOLKID continued to rival in competing for the Mario 2 World Record. Not so soon after Salt’s video on this released, IluvMario beat COOLKIDS 8:16 with a 15. It stood there for a bit until recently, COOLKID came BACK again and dropped it to a 8:13 . A whole 2 seconds lower. And that’s where it stands as of when I commented this lol.

Speedrunning these games I played as a kid is so impressive to me! Some of these tips are things kids figured out or did accidentally in the 80's like the ladder jumps here or the flag pole glitch in smb1 I was doing in 1993 but didn't know how or why. These guys figure out the science and implement it, so cool!

I have no idea how you did what you did, to get over 1 million subs, but you do deserve it. I mean you don't post regularly, and I don't even care AT ALL about speed running, but I enjoy your videos. Most of them are on retro games, and I am a BIG retro gamer. I collect and play the consoles and games from youth. I guess you hit both bases with your videos, the speed runners and the retro gamers, and you get the big views. Either way, good for you, you deserve it. Your videos are done well and very interesting.
