I like how they Nerfed Eleki's ability without touching Draco's one

Well, generational nerfs have been done to pokemon that have overperformed in the previous generation. This gen they hit Urshifu-dark, Rillaboom, Zacian and Regieleki which as you probably know were extremely popular last gen. They tecnically nerfed Zamazenta's stats since they had to match Zacian's total BST and ability, but ended up buffing him anyway since he finally got access to Body Press at least. Regidraco had nearly 0 usage, so no need to hit him, in fact he got buffed by gaining Earth Power / Earthquake which it didn't have last gen, meaning he doesn't need to terastalize to hit pokemon immune to his stab (whereas Regieleki more or less has to).

Its odd. They nerfed Wicked Blow, Transistor and Glacial Lance but they still decided to nerf Zamazenta alongside Zacian.

On the other end of the spectrum, they nerfed Zamazenta’s ability in response to Zacian!

@@butteredsalmonella I mean it makes sense since they are a pair of box legendaries so they have to have to same BST so they had to nerf it but I'm pretty sure that Zamazenta a better move pool since in gen 8 that was one of the main reasons it was so bad Also fun fact during the later half of gen 8 Smogon were actually considering moving Zamazenta down to OU

If anyone is curious: Regidrago was used by 3 players on day 2 of Worlds, 2 of whom used the same 6 Pokemon (if not the same team) as Ansena's tournament-winning team mentioned in the video. The highest-ranked of them placed 61st overall. That's comparable to regular Articuno, which was used by 2 players and peaked at 70th place. Can't be right every time!

its a shame that regidrago is overlooked in singles as well, it one-shots most non-fairies and slapping a scarf on it lets it hit like a double-decker bus with jet engines.

The top 10 pokemon by usage in OU last July were: Great Tusk, an extremely reliable stealth rock setter Kingambit, a bulky steel type with strong priority Iron Valiant, a strong and fast fairy type Gholdengo, a bulky steel type with reliable recovery and a spin blocker Samurott Hisui, an extremely reliable spikes setter Dragapult, an extremely fast and strong dragon type with great STAB Baxcalibur, an ice type with strong priority Slowking Galar, an extremely specially bulky pokemon with reliable recovery Zapdos, which isn't a huge deal Enamorus, a Fairy/Flying type that completely counters dragon/ground coverage. Pretty rough top 10 for a pokemon that relies on never taking damage. Sure, in the right scenarios it can beat all of these pokemon, but it REALLY needs the right scenario. It needs a boosting item to 2HKO standard AV Glowking, Gholdengo frequently runs air balloon, and keeping hazards off the field isn't exactly the easiest task in the world. Suffering quite a bit from the Rampardos theorem.

Earth Power and Earthquake were really great buffs for Drago However, they could've given Drago Flash Cannon and Iron Head as well

honestly huge missed opportunity to make regidrago a Gigantamax. He could've become a whole dragon again instead of being just the head.

They didn't introduce any Gigantamax at all in the CT and no Gigantamax outside of starters and Urshifu in the IoA. Feels like a symptom of being rushed.

2020/2023 were good years to be a Regi fan. New members instroduced, and we saw awesome competitive displays by our boys both in VGC and TCG. I will never forget watching Regigigas with Weezing taking over the metagame.

Yeah, regibox was sick in the tcg and was at first seen as a meme deck. Later on it became a huge threat in the format before SV rotated its energies

Legends Arceus buffed a bunch of Sinnoh Pokémon giving them new moves (like Cresselia), so a Hoenn-based Legends game could work very well in their favour, and possibly have an ancient Regigigas that doesn’t have Slow Start.

Wo-Chien went crazy at worlds too, getting into top cut and finishing 19th. While the highest placing Ting-Lu was 70th.

Legendary pokemon have lost their lustre for me but scarlet and violet really revived the awe they’ve had for the first 3 gens

Bringing the Paradox legendaries in with raids really killed the hype of them but I understand why they done it that way

How? The 4 non version exclusives were just kind of tagged on to the end of the game without much real gameplay lore

If you're running tera-steel Regidrago, you could use steel terablast against fluttermane and make the attack 1 point higher than sp attack so it's a physical terablast.

What nature then? A neutral one?

Terrible idea. You'd be sacrificing way too much SpAtk for something the 5 other mons in your team can handle.

@@VampiresAreRealGuys No, it really is a terrible idea no matter how you look it, you're tunnel-visioning in one mon only. 100 base Spatk is not that high so it needs to be maxed out. What this guy is saying would imply running a neutral or -def nature which is not ideal, and because the base stats of Atk and SpAtk are identical you have to even out the distribution, which could've been spent simply maxing out SpAtk. This is why you get 4 mons to play with at a time. This is not 1v1 Challenge Cup.

I think its really cool that there has generally been a good balance of legendaries and regular pokemon in pro play. As a casual singleplayer-only pokemon fan, I grew up thinking that legendary pokemon were OP, so I always imagined competitive play being filled with nothing but legendaries. Glad that ended up not being the case

Scope lens focus energy has become one of my favorite strategies to date and it works great with Draco meteor to ignore the Sp. Atk drops. Regidrago gets all these tools plus Tera steel Tera blast and it’s such a fun set to use on the ladder

I always loved regidrago nuking online back in gen 8. Not a super consistent strat, but when it worked it was a thing of beauty Pretty cool to see it actually being competitive this time though

Miraidon was the most centralizing threat in the unrestricted VGC format that was demo'd on showdown before rules were set for series 1. It's basically a Cal-S tier threat. Koraidon is just alright.

That was a no Groudon and no zacian miraidon

Personally I really liked Regidrago both design wise and with its signature ability and move so it kinda saddened me that it was never really that good (though it makes sense as it was slow and had a limited movepool). But it's cool that he is much better in SV

One of the most forgotten legendaries is silvally. Its just good enough to not be remembered for being bad but not good enough to be remembered for that either. And its main gimmick of changing types with an item is far more well known for arceus

I like the idea of Regidrago being the Pachirisu of legendaries A new addition to an archetype that was added years later, and who is seen as underrated but then goes on to beat worlds

I used Galarian Articuno in VGC in my local area last year and I became known for it for a short time. I used it to setup tail wind while capitalizing it's ability competitive. Maybe I should bring him out in Scarlet and Violet.

regidrago is insane I was using it about 2 days before this video came out. and in doubles with the right supports/set it is going to be insane. I think I just got lucky in making my team but they support regidrago and destroy its weaknesses perfectly.

I tried Regidrago after I see Cydonia made a twich episode (months ago) on a team based on it. Yes, Fluttermane was a big issue but with a little care it is vey fun to use (and I suck on VGC). Yep, I agree that Regidrago could be great.

It would be funny if this video was made so more pro players would prepare for drago in worlds because wolfey does not want to deal with it

I've been out of the vgc loop all gen9, but this was so well written and delivered, that it kept me interested, and i was still able to absorb the technical info. Never touched Drago in SwSh but in SV he is actually pretty good despite Flutter and Chien Pao being on every team. Tera is truly the greatest of all buffs lol

I recently have been using zamazenta with body press, iron defense. Iron head drops fluttermane in 1-2 hits then body press after 1-2 iron defense has some serious ohko energy. My best treasure of ruins counter too. It has trouble against ting-lu earth power, but you can body press it into oblivion

Its Dragos time to shine! I shiny hunted this thing back when crown tundra came out. Took me 2k+ encounters and 6 months irl to find it. Unfortunately he jus never seemed worth using in Sword and Shield. But now seems like a good time as any to pull this bad boy out

Part of me really wonders how broken the two SwSh Regis would be if they exchanged signature moves with each other, assuming that they also changed type accordingly. Eleki obviously would really like having a 150 BP STAB Ability-boosted move at full health, but how much better would Regidrago be if it had the trapping move instead of Eleki, considering that Drago has far more bulk to sit on something with?

I like drago’s design and am glad it’s getting some love. Eleki is like “ehh whatever” and it’s shiny is a joke.

Honestly seems like SV is doing some good, though on the competitive side I am a bit worried. We have the new DLC legendaries, plus Dipplin and Archaludon. Obviously the legendaries aren't gonna be usable for maybe a couple of months in comp, but it's still a thought that these pokemon could change the competitive scene and put many of these legendaries down for good. Though who am I to say what will and won't happen, I'm not too into competitive myself, it just interests me a bit.

This video made me want to use Regidrago. Not a competitive VGC, but watching your videos inspired me to at least play VGC on showdown from time to time, and it’s a lot of fun! I still have a lot to improve on, mostly predictions, but it’s been a fun grind! I started watching you in your gen 8 days, and I am very thankful for you putting out all of these informational vids!

I quite like GF's decision to not nerf Regidrago here. Its a good way to balance a pokemon that isn't that particularly strong (at least when compared to pokemon like urshifu and gen 8 regieleki), but still want it at the theoretical strength level its at. I picked eleki for effectiveness, but im hoping the DLC lets me get my hands on regidrago.

i barely play but at one point in swsh i was running drago and appletun. definitely some weaknesses given my inexperience with the format but it was probably the best team i made in the format

I'd be curious if an assault vest drago with pollen puff support 1 speed faster to heal works. Tera steel for the fairies and it should be able to tank most hits and stay healthy enough to use its ability

I've always appreciated and like Regidrago, my only pet peeve with tournaments and championships is it seems packed full of legendary pokemon and I can never fully get into watching it.

Your videos are really satisfying and I especially liked this one. Do you think that anyone will try Tera Dragon Regidraco and go ALL IN to power through and KO key threats 1 turn earlier, even though Fairy typing is completely immune to it and Tera Fairy exists?

Honestly I think that due to the state of the meta game, I would rather just run Iron Hands over Gholdengo and Amoonguss over Rillaboom for a team with Regidrago on it. The primary Hands set (AV) has Heavy Slam and is a better Fake Out user imo than Rilla, while Amoonguss can just punish predictable swap-ins to Drago with Spore.

I'm a big fan of Regi Drago, I messed around with it a lot in sword and shield running a choice spec list. It was inconsistent but when it worked it just devasted teams, love it ever since.

General mons with moves like dragons Maw (Eruption, water spout) normally only work because they are faster or in the case of Torkoal abuse trickroom. Regidraco just suffers from having a middling speed stat and an immunity against it.

i lowkey love how the tera crown is placed on the dragon head of regidrago, it's a real nice touch

This is cool to know since I've been thinking of trying out vgc and I just bought a pre used copy of shield today

I hope that at some point they start revamping some of the old legendaries. Not through silly gimmick froms like with Groudon and Kyogre that will be gone the next gen, rather I'd like to see them add unique moves and abilities to existing pokemon, perhaps even replacing their regular abilities/hidden abilities.

If you look at the top right team in the Terurun tournament you can see that they also had a Regidrago

Funnily enough I run a trickroom team with a slow mixed attacked drago with higher attack than special attack with life orb, so I can tera steel and it becomes a physical move instead of special, works against Flutter Mane a good percentage of games if I can pull off trickroom atleast, not the most optimal set but it works I guess

watching these from a pokemon singles perspective is interesting, as moltres has recently been good in the gen 9 ou metagame.

FINNALY SOMEONE WHO TALKED ABOUT REGIDRAGO I LOVE REGIDRAGO. (I dont actually play pokemon games, only GO) I love this guy so much. His design is so cool and just screams: I'm a Dragon Type!

After coming back to this video, seeing the like to dislike ratio being 20000-78 is just insane. Hell its most likely way higher then 20000 likes since it doesn't show you every individual digit. Good on you for that. I don't think i have ever seen that before

Not mentioned...Tapu Fini (and its misty surge) does not exist, yet. That was reason #2 Drago failed in gen 8, and they were introduced together at the same time (Crown tundra). At the moment its a pain to get misty terrain up and in most cases setting it up manually is a waste of a move slot.

On the subject of overlooked legendaries may I make a suggestion? Articuno-Galar @ Adrenaline Orb Ability: Competitive Tera Type: Ground EVs: 48 HP / 252 SpA / 208 Spe Timid Nature IVs: 0 Atk - Freezing Glare - Air Slash - Ancient Power - Tera Blast Goodbye Lando T! I EV'd it so it underspeeds every Arcanine and Sub Lando so it gains the boosts on Switch in. Tera Ice also would be good.

I got to top 100 in showdown doubles in SWSH using a tailwind regidrago team. I tried it in this meta but with flutter mane and heatran everywhere, it’s just too situational

I actually think Regidrago was more fun WITH Dynamax back in SWSH I used to run a Weakness Policy set for Trick Room with Guard Split/Misty Explosion Carbink After a Guard Split with Carbink, Regidrago becomes bulkier than Snorlax. Then Misty Explosion to break sashes and activate WP, allowing Regidrago to sweep with Dragon Energy Dynamaxing then just made it even harder to take down, especially if you brought in something like Floral Healing Comfey or Heal Pulse Indeedee

This gives me hope for one of the Regis I use on my team :)
