The Fermi Paradox - Where Are All The Aliens? (1/2)

  • Am Vor 7 years

    Kurzgesagt – In a NutshellKurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

The universe is unbelievably big - trillions of stars and even more planets. Soo… there just has to be life out there, right? But where is it? Why don’t we see any aliens? Where are they? And more importantly, what does this tell us about our own fate in this gigantic and scary universe?

They would be so much beyond our understanding if that would be the case. If there's an equal or barely similar to us intelligent life, they would try to make contact as we tried to do so. I don't know much about Bill Watterson, but he's not an astronomer, he made a statement maybe according to his own experience by kind of saying "humankind is EVIL" or something like that, he's just a little famous

The Dune universe takes place 20,000 years into our future and involves thousands of planets being inhabited by us humans, yet no alien life is found. Not saying there is no alien life forms out there, I truly believe there are. I just love the different perspective Frank Herbert gives us with his Dune series. Humanity diverges over time into fundamentally different beings. Human beings by the time of Paul Atreides have been in space for over 20,000 years. Earth, old Earth, is so far into the past that it’s just a rumor, a fiction. To the lower-educated classes, they just simply accept that people have been in space forever. Just something to think about, nerd rant over, lol.

I see why it can be scary since your species does not live as long as us the window to see something like aliens in your lifetime is a very short. try to remember how far things are from each other and how hard it is to even contact things at great distances by pretty much randomly shouting in random directions and hoping for the best. And if the universe is empty and you are the only life out there then it would be your species responsibility to keep the small flame of life burning even past the death of the last star. maybe I'll see you humans fly by me someday I'll look forward to it until then I'll be waiting.

I personally think this paradox fails to take into account how impossibly large the universe is. Not true. We literally have no idea how hard it is for life to come to be. We only have one sample and that's not enough. Considering ~billion Earth-like planets in the Milky Way alone gives a pretty good chance for life to exist outside our Solar system, let alone the whole Universe

I think that we might very well be one of the first civilisations in the universe. However, I know we arent the first living beings in the universe. There surely is a lot of other, undiscovered life forms, but probably not as advanced to be called a civilisation. And if that is correct, and we become able to start colonising other worlds, we will, because that's what most of us did and are doing for centuries now. We are either colonised and conquered or we are conquerors and colonisers. In case we can colonise other planets and moons in future, we are not going to miss that opportunity, if not for any other reason, then for the money.

Once the species becomes intelligent enough to escape their planet, there’s a chance the species might self destruct through war, a new dangerous invention, or nihilistic suicide. I think there’s a chance that humans are very close to the threshold. We have a drive and a reason to do things. It would be very counterintuitive for a form of life to be “intelligent” enough to have the ability to explore space but to be so “stupid” to be doing it for no reason. That leads to only some forms of life exploring space for the sake of exploring space, which is a scary thought because if we do come across space travellers one day, it means there’s a very high likelihood that the space travellers would happily blow up Earth for the sake of blowing up Earth.

1)It took millions of years to receive signal till that time that particular alien planet would be dead 2) there are time intervals life may exist before or after humanity vanishes 3) u won't notice a pin in grain of sand 4) there was a experiment where astronomers thought how we would look in perspective of aliens . Result was we wasn't even a dot

I can say very simply and understandably about the Fermi paradox as follows: The moon, Mars, and planets around the sun are all habitable. There's no reason why only the earth has life. Just because people see only this universe does not mean that this universe is the only universe. Has anyone realized that after a few hours of death, the body can still function?

Imagine how extremely beneficial it would be for both civilizations to meet, chances are they don't have air, sound doesn't travel, they would have us factoring bionic implants for sound capturing into their nervous system so they could hear music for the first time in their existence. chances are they dont know that kinetic weapons are a thing just cause they never had time to war each other due to bigger threats like unstable atmosphere, mastering travel =/= having exactly the same route of development. 100 lightyears of broadcasting, we should have gotten a response by now if life would be as common as general scientists try to argue.

I've just solved the feei paradox in a very interesting mannor. The answer is obvious when you look at the shape of the universe, and even works along side the simulation hypothisys very very well. The easy answer to the fermi paradox is that the probubliliyy of life is such that it arises exactly or close to once in every single galaxy in the universe. This means that every galaxy has one planet or other interstellar body which developed a version of dna, and that these galaxies then develop their own life forms at a similar pace to our earth, which (hopefully) spread into other star systems and planets in their galaxy cluster. Consider the massive number of stars and planets, and the even larger amount of interstallar commets and particulate iceses, sand and dust in every galaxy, it is not far fetched to say that is not only likely but inevitable that a life form emerges atleast once in every single galaxy. So if this theory accounts for life emerging once in each galaxy by pure chance without intervention, then why do I mention the simulation hypothisys in this description? The answer to this is that the structure of the universe is to similar across it's parts, and too convienient for the formation is single branch of life in every galaxy to not hint at some form of intentionality. Indead, we see a perfect situation for stellar conquest without the sort of mass destruction of life that we see in science fiction books such as star ship troopers. Even the vast distances between stars apparently make it imposible to travel to stars without giving up completely on the idea of having a continuous pan galactic order or violently enforced government, and instead forces life forms to spread through the stars via next and multi generational star seeding, where new people or new life emerges thousands of years after it is launched in a new system, without ever meeting it's parrents adnd parrent people's. (Or else forces the civilization to travel to new star systems as artificial minds, which are both imortal, and also lack any and all form of bodily need or emotion, which in theory should make them imune to such world ending impulses as fear, anger, or want and violence.) The galactic decide furthereans that, even if faster than light travel were ever discovered, that the single origin of life within that galaxy would mean that life forms within that system would not cause nearly as much of a permanent loss to the system if they were to comithoribls atrocities against each other, since the root source of life for millions of world's would all have the same place of origin. It is this apperent moral order to the universe which makes it strange, and considering the other possibilities for a universe structure, (including the existence of a light speed limit for matter in the first place) make it seem as if some form of intentionality might be at work in shaping the universe.

Based on our assumption civilizations get "bigger, more powerful, more visible" in the universe. Is there consideration that intelligent life can get something I can only describe as "smaller", "less visible" and/or move to "other dimensions" inside or outside this universe? And then move to other dimensions within that?

@AltairEgo1 It very well could be. It's like there being a chance 2 people with the same genetic makeup that aren't related or twins existing at the same time. It's a probable impossibility, but it technically can happen even if it hasn't yet. The creation of life itself would be considered impossible if not for our very existence itself. It can't be recreated and as such we are the only example known.

1,000,000 planets across 90 m^3 light years of space? Why would we expect to have detected anything? Even the extremely powerful radio telescope Arecibo, if placed on a planet orbiting the next nearest star, would not have been able to detect signals from Earth. A civilisation would have to broadcast at phenomenal signal strengths, in all directions, potentially for hundreds of years in order to have even the slightest chance of being detected on Earth. what would compel anyone to do that?

Vor 5 Monate
Sandal_Thong
Sandal_Thong

Radio telescopes can be built in arrays to increase capability, so you don't just need one big dish. You could make an array across the United States or even North America, or the diameter of the Earth, or the diameter of the Earth's orbit. Detecting laser-light communications is next or concurrent with radio waves. Once they discover we have an oxygen atmosphere with pollution from Romans smelting lead and silver, they could be transmitting just to us as one of several similar candidates, and not "in all directions."

If we could (theoretically) travel at light speed, time would stop and we’d b at our destination instantly, correct me if I’m wrong, but gravity and speed both slow time when either is increased, so at a black hole, time stops due to gravity stronger than light, so we’d b literally teleporting
