IN CONGRESS, JULY 4, 1776
The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America
The Declaration of Independence was a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, which announced that the thirteen American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as independent states, and no longer a part of the British Empire. John Adams put forth a resolution earlier in the year which made a formal declaration inevitable. A committee was assembled to draft the formal declaration, to be ready when congress voted on independence. Adams persuaded the committee to select Thomas Jefferson to compose the original draft of the document, which congress would edit to produce the final version. The Declaration was ultimately a formal explanation of why Congress had voted on July 2 to declare independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. The Independence Day of the United States of America is celebrated on July 4, the day Congress approved the wording of the Declaration.

Quotes from signers:
"Believe me, dear Sir: there is not in the British empire a man who more cordially loves a union with Great Britain than I do. But, by the God that made me, I will cease to exist before I yield to a connection on such terms as the British Parliament propose; and in this, I think I speak the sentiments of America."
Thomas Jefferson
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin
"I always consider the settlement of America with reverence and wonder, as the opening of a grand scene and design in providence, for the illumination of the ignorant and the emancipation of the slavish part of mankind all over the earth."
John Adams
"There, I guess King George will be able to read that."
John Hancock
"Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right...and a desire to know; but besides this, they have a right, an indisputable, unalienable, indefeasible, divine right to that most dreaded and envied kind of knowledge, I mean of the characters and conduct of their rulers."
John Adam
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
Thomas Jefferson
"I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure it will cost us to maintain this declaration, and support and defend these states. Yet through all the gloom I see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth all the means. This is our day of deliverance."
John Adams
"Equal and exact justice to all men...freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of person under the protection of the habeas corpus; and trial by juries impartially selected, these principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us."
Thomas Jefferson
"We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

Its inspiration is nothing short of that unquenchable flame of human dignity, conscience and morality that our Creator uniquely set us apart with as the crowning work of His creation. @Victor H: Why do you want to avoid sounding biased? EVERYONE IS BIASED. The very fact that we have judgements, choices, & preferences means that we ALL have biases. It is innately human. I call it our "Writ of Divorcement". And when the boyfriend/husband got a copy he said, "how dare that ungrateful servant witch?" and brought his friends to hunt down those you alienated her affection of him and to capture her for the dungeon. Well, that didn't work out so well now did it? But history also shows that the defeated husband didn't give up but merely changed his tactics. America's independent "lady" was beset with gossip and lies about her and many who once loved her began to question her inner beauty and virtues. Lured away be deception, she was abandoned over time and other mistresses took her place. But she's still the same, beautiful, virtuous heroine, worth of good men to love and adore!

Letter of treason. First page of a 3 paged document. Not such a simple letter no. It is directions and clarification of citizen behavior under tyranny of government. To call it a break up letter lessens the value of the document. To see it less then direction and instruction will only lead to a civilians demise. Notice within what is said countless of times. "The rights" to do so. Powers granted much as what the constitution and the bill of rights establish. Treat it as such.
Vor 4 Monatecamel holocaust
I listen to a recitation of the the declaration every 4th of July, and every damn year I tear up. The constitution may be the greatest governmental document ever, but this, this is by far the greatest founding document ever written. It's good to be reminded from time to time that the revolution was not simply over taxes and tea, but over the all consuming tyranny that was the brittish crown. Many in this country would like to see us returned to the days of being told what we can own, and what we can believe, we must resist this at all costs. Idealy every American would start their 4th of July by listening to the Declaration of Independence, as a reminder of what tyranny we were fighting, but sadly the people who should hear it the most will never find their way here to listen to it.

Happy Independence Day folks. Today should be the day where we forget our political feuds amongst ourselves and embrace the fact that we are all patriotic Americans. We should celebrate the fact that the American experiment has lasted for 245 years. We have survived the onslaught of the British Empire, a bitter Civil War over slavery, two terrifying World Wars, half a century of Soviet aggression, and will probably survive the economic might of the Chinese regime. Rest assured, fellow compatriots, that no matter what, through thick and thin, issues both foreign and domestic, we shall continue to prevail over our adversaries. Our country has been able to move mountains even now with our bitter division between Democrats and Republicans, so imagine how much more we could do if we stood together as the UNITED States of America. Frankly, I'm glad to be an American despite all of our problems, and I hope that you are too. God bless America.

To feel the impact of these words, to know thier truth, and to know that next comes war. To hear the whispers and outcry of the people gathered around you from your neighbors of either excitement, fear or both. What would you do? Knowing that the war was coming to you rather than you going off to it and knowing that this would change everything. I only wish those people who doubted leaving the king could see what this country has become and the effect it had on other countries.

I agree. Though many have forgotten long ago. We all need to wake up because our country is changing fast and not for the better.

We spent a week on the Declaration in my 5th grade class. My children had a few paragraphs in their American history books but they had a Mom who shared her week 😉

Truly, a divinely inspired declaration against tyranny! It still holds good to this day!

Look up what happened to the founding fathers after this. Many of them lost everything they had, and became wanted dead or alive. Some of the bravest men in history.

Let us thank every man who signed this document. We owe our lives to them who risked theirs for us. Thomas Jefferson who used most of his time for the very words we read. From New Jersey my ancestor John Hart signed this. I will forever honor you great grandpa Hart! 9:38

Such an amazing oration. Either 500 people hit the wrong botton, or someone does not see the beauty, nor the universal principles set within.

Reading the Declaration is not enough. People should hear it read with such honest and heartfelt dignity, to really understand how the Founders truly felt as they embarked on such an Immense Endeavor. Each pledging everything they were to the will of the people they represented. Thank You for posting this.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest documents in human history

Hard to believe nowadays but in our high school government class circa 1968 we had to read study and write a report on this most important document. Also we read and memorized the pre amble of the Constitution of the United States of America. We had one semester covering the Constitution.

You should also post George Washington's farewell address at the end of his second term. Circa 1796. Yale University has it posted online.

I wonder how many Americans actually know this document? It’s telling us what to do! I hope people actually do what it says it’s our Right and our duty.

Unfortunately they probably threw this out of the curriculum to make room for the Critical Race Theory that is being taught now.

@Big T doing great. The comedy show really begins. The Dems are supposedly in power, this should be a joke for 4 years. But, I fear that poor Joe isn’t gonna make it. Poor guy.

@John Kunz brother you’re in denial, you’re not doing great

Excellent video, only one minor thing the music played over the voice so it was hard to hear the voice sometimes. The declaration of Independence should be required reading for every politician and person that occupies political office including our current president Joe Biden.

I am as we speak have my children studying this and I will be talking with them about our constitution. My children will know and carry the knowledge and true history of America on their journey through life.

Amazing reading. Music is awesome and fitting but a little too loud and tends to overpower the voice a little bit. Overall, awesome vid. Happy Independence Day.

Chills every time. It truly moves me. Truth, purpose, reasons why they throw off tyranny, and willing to give their lives for freedom, freedom that's threatened now.

You will have nothing and be happy. They are starting the great rest. Do what you can to protect yourself and your family. Stack gold silver lead brass food and water. GOOD LUCK TRUE PATRIOTS.

The most respectful and professional reading of the Declaration of Independence I have yet found. Listen solemnly. Happy Independence Day!!! But she's still the same, beautiful, virtuous heroine, worth of good men to love and adore! https://youtu.be/4uE-tqe0xsQ
