Let's ask Shogo | Your Japanese friend in Kyoto
Many people have asked me, "What do you love about your wife?" I always answer "Her existence😎." lol *17:22 In the map where we pointed out as "Kyoto," is actually "Nara" prefecture... Kyoto is one prefecture up North from Nara, we apologize for the mistake! ・ In this channel, you can take a closer look at Japanese traditional culture, tips upon traveling to Kyoto, and social problems in Japan. So learners and lovers of Japanese language and culture, be sure to subscribe to enjoy more content! Thank you again very much for watching!
To Let's ask Shogo | Your Japanese friend in Kyoto and wife: Please name your future son: Miyamoto Musashi
May you and your descendant's households be blessed from this moment on in the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
Thank you for your meeting story. So wonderful!
That's such a sweet answer ❤️
I am so happy both families were able to come together despite the cultural disadvantages! Proof love brings the world together not apart!
Son of a Chinese father and Japanese mother. Very blessed and proud to have been raised on both cultures and tribes. Definitely the best of both worlds for sure!
Love transcends all barriers
I can imagine such love stories would have been tragic in times of the past. It's a very a beautiful thing if these kinds of cultural divides are building bridges.
Same exact combo here. I'm glad others are out there.
That's dope you have heritage of two Amazing and beautiful cultures
Did you grow in Canada or the US? If your dads a ABC and your mom is nisei or sansei that’s nothing surprising. But it’s still cool.
My wife of 37 years just passed away a month ago from a long illness. Your story brought a smile to me face I so much needed. Thank you so much and I wish you and your family many years of happiness.
so sorry for your loss. we're all here supporting you ❤️🫂
best of luck in the future.
my condolences man...
My condolences sir.
I’m a Chinese overseas. I’ve learned much and have been told much about the horrible things the Japanese did to the Chinese during world war 2. I remember it, because it is the history of my nation, but I don’t hate the Japanese. In fact, I like the Japanese culture very much and is learning Japanese. I’m happy that Shogo-san and Harumi-san got together in that story, despot how much Harumi-san’s relatives were against them. I wish your family happiness and healthy peace. Nations shouldn’t be an obstacle for love.
@Canalu' lu' Dorel what did Mao did to your family?
Thank you, this is what I have been saying. Forgiveness doesn't mean you forget or push it under the carpet. And you don't need to forget to forgive!
"People there have strong anti-Japanese sentiment". Well, this summed up everything perfectly, my friend. The atrocities done by Japanese soldiers during the WW2 still felt by many. But enough with politics and history, let the politicians settle those things. Wish you and your family many years of happiness and prosperity.
@Zain Shaikh I hope your prayer gest through to her, stay safe
"I became a brighter and happier person"...that is really what the definition of love should be.
That is the fruit that real love bears.
It took me many years to understand this too ^^
@Gary Hernandez Pulido But if you act like a kind person without it coming from the heart, then it's not kindness... It's pretense.
@Catalyst - D B Kindness isn't a virtue though as it doesn't mean you actually love them. Sure I can be kind to someone, but if I'm not charitable and help them in improving themselves and their situations I don't really care about them.
This video came up on my recommended, and I clicked because I’m the daughter of a Chinese mother and a Japanese father. It’s scary how similar your story is to theirs! They also met at a University in China, and my mum’s family also had a hard time accepting my dad when they started dating. I’m glad your relationship persevered, and is still going strong to this day! ❤️
@kudurrumaqlu "interracial", it's the same roots two different nation, "inter-national" is probably more approperiate
This is with Bangladesh and Pakistan. Alot of parents of Bengalis are against Pakistani interracial couples. This generation knows peace but those same parents were victims of genocide. It's tough it really is. But stories like this video right here is what helps us move forward to better future.
"And we still didn't want to go home" I was laughing so hard, you both are so sweet and loving and funny, that's why I love this channel, it's just full of passion and care
Another greetings from Hungary :)
I love this story. My marriage also started with a neverending date, we met at 10 am on a Saturday to go to a Museum, then lunch, then sightseeing, then coffee, then walk, then dinner, then drinks... The second date was basically him moving in, because he cooked for me at my place and never really left.
We simply can’t control who we fall in love with. It just happens. Glad you two had everyone’s blessing in the end. You two are such a cute couple. I wish you many more years of happiness together.
Well yes and no. It all depends on what or how much baggage another has that you're willing to accept.
@Li1190 There are a ton of things you can do to make yourself a more attractive prospect. I assume you're quite young, because that's typically something younger people parrot.
@Li1190 who hurt you?
Too bad I'll never be on the receiving end of the falling in love part 😔
The way they looked at each other while each one speaks about their side of the story, nodding in affirmation. I'm glad that they ended happily together after all the difficulties.
Harumi san, Shogo san, thanks for sharing this. I personally think it's very important that people outside of Japan and China understand the tension between those two countries, where this tension comes from and what the effects from this tension is for the people living there. I am glad you guys have been able to defy the odds and have found eachother and found happiness in eachother's love despite history and what that does to people. When I was in Japan 2 years ago, I could see that the youth and forward thinking elders start trying to defy old thoughts and ways of thinking, but that it's hard for many people to forget about things happening in the past and in which atmosphere you have been brought up. It is eady to think it is an Asian thing, as Asian countries are generally being thought of as the most traditional and concervative, but as I think of it, it happens in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe too. I am all for remembering how aweful people can be to eachother, what nazi people did to others (it was not only german people, but also nationals that alligned themselves with the nazi's) and for instance what Japan has done to other countries, but also what the Nethetlands has done to Indonesians and Africans. But we can't have the youth continue to blame nations anymore for what people did in history. We are not our parents, grandparents or elders from far into the past. We should remember not to make the same mistakes, but we should not differentiate nations on their past. No nation is inherently bad. At least my time studying at Obirin with Japanese, Americans, Chinese, Indonesians, Brazilians, Chechs etc gave me hope for the future.
I agree! 😭♥️♥️
Wow respect to her father for being open minded in the end and accepting his daughter's choice. You two look very happy together!
That man doesn't know what an open mind is.
You two are SO cute together! Many couples actually start off as you did...talking and not wanting to leave each other. May you have many more happy years together. I am so happy for both of you after having gone through such a painful episode during your dating time. Peace to you both and to your families.
Never blame someone born 40 years later for the sins of others. How lucky, Shoogo got a loving father, Dad got a devoted SIL who worships his magnificent daughter. And daughter is as pretty as her Mom and has a great family.
Listening to this, my heart's hardness slowly chipped away and in the breaking heart, I felt the tenderness of its fresh wounds bringing tears to my eyes, and despite my best efforts to do otherwise, fresh streams dripped down along my cheeks, and I know that some errors in this world have been rectified through the sincere actions of two people.
This is a truly wonderful story. I really hope the relationship between China and Japan will find a final closure to all the things that happened in WW2 and move on to an enduring relationship of finding common ground, mutual respect, understanding, acceptance and care for each other. Long live our peace.
its called fate, everyone deserve to be happy despite we must face a lot of obstacles in life. your story are so precious to int. couples who are not blessed by their relatives or parents wish you a happy family and keep inspiring !
The fact that Harumi wasnt interacting with men in her schooldays and didnt easily trust men, means she was your fated one. Thats why she felt comfortable with you. What a sweet story!
Whatever someone does with their lives it's up to them. Parents shouldn't force their children to do anything. They should guide them of course and maybe try to stir them in a certain direction. But once a child has made up his mind, there should be a lot of support. Your wife is pretty amazing for standing up to her family.
I love how shogo is always smiling 😃. I love the positivity that he expresses towards the audience.
What an incredibly strong woman, I’m thoroughly impressed by her strength of character and will
She is very beautiful inside and out!
I just celebrated my 5th Anniversary with my husband. My husband and I are from different cultures. Him, being syrian… you know… I was rejected by his family, so our relationship was kind of sad, but since we loved each other so much, we just carried on. Now we are so happy, and his parents finally love me as a daughter.
I love how they are having a conversation in two different languages.
I did the same with my ex. She spoke English and i responded in German. It was the most efficient way of communicating, because we understood each other perfectly, but were better at conveying things in our mother tongue
@Wallace Sousuke 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
@Beautifully Broken Picking out key words in their speech. So if I tried to speak back I can't because I don't know how to put words together which are grammatically correct, and proper sentence structured. Maybe it's different for your friend; this is just my reason.
@គង់គា nigguyen ឆាត់ I have a Filipino friend who said that. How does that work?
This is a great story. I am so pleased that you and your wife felt comfortable sharing this publicly. There is obviously a lot to learn from it. Cheers!
A beautiful story that love can prevail even in spite of the anger between two cultures. Good for you guys - there is hope for mankind.
Thank y'all so much for sharing your journey! My wife and I went through very experience facing similar challenges. My wife is a Washingtonian, I am a first generation Immigrant from Taiwan with a strong Japanese heritage. My folks wanted me to marry any one as long as she is not a Chinese. As time went on, my folks began to worry that I won't get married at all and; therefore, their expectation changed. My folks told me I can marry any human female as long as I don't marry a chimpanzee.
@meks plenty of Wangs served in the IJN
Strong japanese heritage and ur first name is wang?
@Johnny Dingo Absolutely right
I dunno man, some of those orangutans are pretty cute 🥰🦧
I love the level of respect you show for each other. Listening to stories like this is what make families come together and happy. Cheers on your marriage and blessings everyday to your marriage.
*"I was finally able to say from my heart, "thank you" and "I love you" because Shogo gave me the love I needed."* That's very touching Harumi. It truly shows that his love and your love towards him is such an important foundation to face those challenges.
I and itit it
Shogo san, you are a fantastic storyteller! I have been binge-watching your videos for the past few days. Thanks for the hard work that you put into creating excellent content. Good luck reaching your 100k subscriber goal. BTW (By the way), I am subscribed to your channel to include having clicked the bell to be notified of new content.
Two things brought me to tears in this video. When she said, "No I'm lucky." The genuine love I felt from that simple rebuttal - powerful. And when her father said, "Your mother spent 24 years to raise my new son." Boy!!! As someone who grew up with a single mom, and is a hopeless romantic at heart. Those two lines absolutely made me tear up heavily.
Thank you sharing your story. I love studying history. I know that the history between China and Japan, hasn't exactly always been cordial. That being said, your story made me happy. I can't imagine that your life together has been without struggle. However, struggle makes us stronger. Thank you
Great going, Harumi and Shogo! Your love is a true inspiration for other couples who struggle with family issues in a mixed-culture/race relationship. " The heart wants what the heart wants."
I'm happy for you guys! I would like to meet a guy like Shogo. Gentle, cute and funny. Harumi is a good catch, too. I love how she said she changed after dating Shogo. It's the character devt. that I always look for in a story. She's also such a wise and strong cutie. I'm glad she didn't give up on him or her own dad. I wish you guys all the best! Happy 3rd anniversary!
Thank u Shogosan. I’m currently dating a Japanese girl and going the same experience. You have motivated me to endure and stay positive May you and your family be blessed 😊
I believe if you actually love your child you’d never get in the way of their happiness and the one they love. The fact that the dad eventually came around just shows that he indeed does love his daughter.
Such a great story! Stories like these give me hope about real love, your wife is wonderful by the way. Great job from both families. In the end, it was an epic win.🥳
There's a saying in the Philippines that goes like this "Kapag pinigil, lalong mangigigil" meaning, if you try to stop someone from doing what they like, or love, they'll gonna do it with much more diligent, almost without a sign of stopping. If it's meant to be, you'll know it. 🥺 Love wins in your beautiful story. 😊
Sanaol meant to be di ako maka relate
Kapag nabunyag ang sikreto, kikilos ng patago.
That's such a beautiful saying in Philippines. Thanks for sharing😊
Ah yes, rhyming
Same in manchurian
So happy when love and marriage can overbridge nations and cultural differences and even negative experiences❤️
Put a smile on my face the hours of talking and hanging out reminds me of when I first started dating my wife. Best of luck with your family may your children be strong healthy and happy!
Such a sweet couple, and you can tell their very in love. Congratulations on finding each other and starting your family with your precious daughter. ❤️🇺🇸
It's so interesting how during the whole video, Shogo talks to Harumi in English and she spontaneously understands, but responds in Japanese.
This was incredibly sweet! I discovered this channel these days and it's already one of my favorites, I wish the best to you all!
Great love story! Parents that want their kids to marry within their own culture should probably not move from their home country, it makes the dating pool a lot smaller.
My wife and I met in an emergency room. I was having a Crohn's disease flare, and she was the doctor. She had handled me during my previous flare nearly a year before, and she remembered me because I was kind, polite, funny, and also a doctor. I regretted not asking her out during my first visit with her, so when I saw her the second time, I was determined to ask. She said yes and later told me she said yes because if I could be nice and funny while I was in so much pain, while I was at my worst, then I was worth taking a chance on. We didn't feel any resistance from our families. The only pushback either of us remember was about our age difference; I'm ten years older than she is. Even then there wasn't much said about it. I was prepared for an uphill battle since she's Native American and I'm white, but our families were very accepting. I wasn't intimidated by my wife making more money than me, nor where either of us after each other's money, I'm not after her just because she's gorgeous, etc. The only time anyone in either family has said anything racial was when one of my cousins hit on her at a family gathering, then said I should "get my uppity squaw in line" when she turned him down and told him to get away from her. I punched him, knocked him down, and thankfully haven't seen him since. Last I heard, he was trying to steal money from his mother/my aunt while she suffers from dementia. He sends $1200 per month to some e-whore in the Philippines who has been promising him for over a decade that she'll come to America and marry him.
This is a beautiful story, almost brought me to tears. Cheers for you both!
A beautiful story, when you know, you know :) Even with all the challenges to overcome the historical prejudices, you have transcended, and now get to bless the rest of us with the inspiring story. Thank you both
So you had a "Romeo & Juliet" beginning, but lived to tell about it, and love conquered fear & doubt: Congratulations on living such a lovely story, and for sharing with the rest of us! Best wishes for many more happy anniversaries!
Normally I find these “how we met” stories corny, but this is actually really cute.
Shogo, you are a unique person, thank you for making this video! In this world, it is so difficult to find balanced people and in touch with both their mental and spiritual maturity. You and your wife just proved to the world that there are people like this, and this makes the world a better place. There should be more people like you, thank you!
What a beautiful story! I would be interested to know why Harumi's parents moved to Japan in the first place and raised her there.
@Choogz freedom like Libya, Iraq huh ?
@A H or so they could try for a second child and still be legal. If you didn't have the money at the time to afford to pay the fine, and then pay for all the other things like education and all the other things the governed would provide there. Probably the cheapest way to have a second child but still be close to family and have a large amount people that share your background.
@Daeseong Kim sorry but Japan rural villages are pretty. Most of the population are elderly, but they somehow managed them well. The only thing that is unclean are abandoned houses that left broken because of low population.
Beautiful wedding picture, and you guys are such a lovely couple! I hope your relationship continues to be blessed. Much love from California☀️🌴
I am so happy for you both and your 2 daughters (I know I'm late to this video). I also had an international marriage as my wife is from Russia and I live in the U.S. There was no problem with her family as my stepmother family were from Russia so I grew up with some knowledge of the culture and her mom and dad were so nice to me and her mom said to call them mama and papa soon when we were engaged. I grew up like Fate Testarossa from MGLN, though she has fewer scars than I do, so it was really nice to finally have a great family to be a part of even though I was 38 y.o. at the time. No problem with family but the bureaucracy of the paperwork from the U.S. was unbelievable and it took 1 year before she was able to get her permission to immigrate and fly here. That's a lot of emails as they had not upgraded the internet connection in her flat at that time so no video chats. Thanks for the nice video. Harumi is very cute! Question: why do Japanese people always show the "V" sign with their fingers when being photographed? I am just curious. 😁
You're such a beautiful family. I admire Harumi for never giving up. Hope you will always be happy together. All the best for you guys!
This was so wholesome! You have such a beautiful family. Thank you both for sharing. My heart feels so warm and fuzzy now. :)
this is such a beautiful story i smiled the entire time, your love for each other is so
What a beautiful love story. You both are such a lovely couple. Harumi is such a light and you both shine together! Wishing you a long lifetime of marital bliss!
Oh man 🥺 the father's words punched a tear out of me. Such strong words of acceptance . 😭 I'm so happy for you two.
Such a wholesome story. I'm so happy for you two guys. I wish you two the best
So happy you two were able to make things work with the family. I know it must not be easy. My mother wishes me to marry an okinawan women, but that is highly unlikely. Best wishes for your future.
What a lovely couple! I wish you all the whole family the best of lucks :D Greetings from Spain ^^
I'm so happy for you both. I didn't expect to love this video so much, but I can relate to a lot of it. My wife and I (though we call each other "partner") have been together for almost 8 years, and got married three years ago. We met after getting divorced from other people and have kids from our first marriages. Her father is a very strict Christian and doesn't like me because I believe differently from him. He also doesn't like that my kids are gay. So I always hope that one day he will just get over all that and see that I love his daughter and take care of her and am a good stepdad to her kids. He refused to come to our wedding even though we invited him, and so we didn't get to have that great turning point that you did. But I hope that that's still in the future for us. I hope he can see how "right" our relationship is in the same way that your father-in-law couldn't deny how right you two are for each other. Thank you for sharing your story with us!
I love the love in their eyes when they look at each other!!! I hope you all the happiness
"The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all." — Mulan (Disney animated version)
@Supreme Master yes the queen of flowers in asia😅
I had to give you the 888th like just the number 8 is lucky in Asian cultures. These two are such a beautiful family.
“My name spelled backwards, IS DISNEY!” -Yen Sid
@A L Lopez we don't talk about the remake.
Wow that is true.
''And then we met up at 12o'clock... and then we started dating HIHIHIHIHAHAH'' Loved it. Absolutely loved it.
I know I subbed around about a week or so ago, I wanted to say congratulations on both daughters Mrs. Harumi, and may you always be loved and appreciated. I know Mr. Shogo will do so everyday.
it is almost painful for me to see how beautiful your relationship is. Due the the fact that my previous one was unsuccessful. Despite this I wish u both the best and given the wisdom of retrospect I am certain you two shall be successful. God Bless U both xxxxx.
The way you two met and started dating warms my heart, its like a modern fairytale 🥰
I stumbled upon this video by chance and am so happy I did! This was SO cute. You two are really a perfect couple.
Hi Shogo, it is so admirable that you both overcome culture different..another proof that true love has no boundary.
This is such a lovely story :') hope the happiness you get from your families surrounds you guys forever
What a lovely video! Harumi is very graceful and sweet, and it warmed my heart when she talked about how she has changed to be a warmer, more friendly person.
Dude, this story was so good. It made me so happy when you said your father in law accepted you as his son. I'm really happy for you two!
Thanks for sharing your story. My meeting my hubby was online and we both was looking seriously for a marriage partner, not just saying for fun. So we took 2½ years to get to know one another then met, started with him for 3 months, me in a spare bedroom in a new apartment her moved into just to make sure I was comfortable and he was very much a gentleman. We got married a few months later because our relationship online was exactly the same in person, so the last lucky day July 26th 2019 got married. OMG my Japanese in-laws are in Fukuoka too, Kitakyushu! Haven't seen them since 2019 because of corvid-19.
My new favorite channel. I always watch a ton of Asian travel vids but Shomi covers in depth a lot of the cultural bits and history most other channels miss. Plus, I love the cartoons .
awww i love you guys! you are both so kind and wholesome. :) we need more of that in this world!
It always warms my heart to hear a lovely tale of romance! I wish nothing but the absolute best for you and your family!
Guys, your feelings came straight to me and made me cried! You're such a lovely couple! You fought so hard to stay together and deserve all the happiness in the world 🥰🥰🥰💕💕💕
I'm so glad for both of you. You seem like wonderful people and it's amazing to hear that you're happy together despite the obstacles there were to overcome. And it even sounds like you may have opened some people's hearts a bit in the process. It's always sad to hear that an idea of what's "proper" stands in the way of someone's happiness, so I'm very happy you were able to overcome the challenges you faced. Much respect for both of you.
My favorite channel on Japan. Informative and entertaining as well. Shogo-San, thank you for the content and wishing you the very best. (Douglas/Ohio/USA.) I really enjoyed this video!
What a wonderful and enlightening story. I'm thrilled for you both and hope the future is amazing raising your daughter. Much love from toronto canada.
your guys' story sounds like something straight out of a shoujo romance manga, it's so sweet. :D
that was incredibly heartwarming, thank you both for sharing!
Such an adorable couple, your child is a blend of your love for eachother. I wish you all a long and love filled life.
ohhhh!!! that’s so super sweet how you two just wanted to keep spending time together from the first moment that you met!!!!!!! 💖💘💖💘💖
Just want to say thank you for sharing your story. The love the two of you found sounds like it filled in the hole in your hearts, the final piece of the puzzle. I wish you both many many years of joy together. Again, thank you for sharing.
Currently dating a woman from Mainland. And I’m from Philippines. Hopefully we can work this out. More power to both of you ♥️
@Y Caceres There are many who are happy, but there are scarily large amounts being abused.
Filipinos have successful marriages with a lot of different types of people
@Chakravartin the Filipino government recognize foreign abuse of their citizens as a major problem so…
@da bo You dislike stereotyping yet you resort to stereotyping yourself, amusing.
@DD NN Hmm no. However, that situation is a problem with Filipinos, mainly with the states.
I'm glad you guys found each other.I want my daughter to do well in life as long as she is happy.
Seeing you guys gives me a warm joy. ❤️ I need more people in my life who are on that wavelength.
You guys are so strong and amazing to put out this video. Having lived in Japan I can barely imagine how much it took for you.
This was such a beautiful story. (I am an american viewer btw) Your relationship is really something special, and the two of you really make a good couple. I found your channel because of all your Samurai content and information, and I love how you present your views. Subbed because of this video it was truly touching.
Just watched this vid and this is making me cryyy! Congrats on your anniversary and for overcoming adversity in your relationship!
Watching this was SO WORTH MY TIME I LOVE IT, LOVE YOU GUYS AHHH SO PERFECT haha, much love and best wishes you the both of you :)))))))
I adore you two. The story of y’all meeting and going on the first date is amazing. And then you two overcoming all the obstacles through your love is very inspiring. You give me hope in a very broken hearted time in my life. Thank you for sharing your stories.
This was so beautiful! I'm so happy for you both! ❤️
"I became a brighter and happier person" I see in their eyes that they both love each other unconditionally ❤️
Thank you for sharing your story, we really appreciate it. Well wishes to you two and your family for the upcoming year's. 😊
It’s really awesome how in love you guys are the way you look at your wife and the way she looks at you and the way she did in one of your wedding pictures really showed great happiness im glad you guys are happy and I hope it stays that way
I glad you found true happiness. There always a time when parents should let their children go so they can fully grow up.
That is the cutest story of 'how we met' that I've ever heard. Love it!
Man, that was super wholesome. I got quite emotional from this video and I really hope the best for you guys.
