I truly believe that Perez will be huge for Red Bull. Having 2 cars fighting for the podium gives red bull much better tactical choices against mercedes. I reckon Honda has brought forward the new spec from 2022 so they have a year of troubleshooting before they hand it over to RB. RB likely didn't want to get a totally new and unproven engine spec on their doorstep for their first year of trying to do it themselves.

I think it's worth mentioning. Part of the reason Redbull have a strong showing Vs Mercedes towards the end of the season is partly down to Mercedes stopping development of their car much earlier while Redbull continue through towards the end. This giving Mercedes the chance to put more time earlier on into the new car for the next year, hence why they then are back ahead of the Redbull package at the start of the new season.

Honda may be repeating the missed opportunity from 2009. The 2022 regulations have the best chance yet of levelling the playing field and putting the influence back in the driver's hands. Redbull have, arguably, the fastest driver. They also have Adrian Newey, who has a track record of designing fast cars in times of regulation changes. It may be Hondas best chance in over a decade of being associated with winning a championship, but they are walking away again, potentially at the worst time.

Maybe F1 should carry this "evolution year update" into the new rules package. Meaning new cars every even year (2022, 2024, 2026 etc.) and Token based evolutions on the odd years (2023, 2025, 2027 etc...)

I think its possible. DAS was a huge advantage to the other cars last season and Mercades dont have that this year. The engines on all parts should be closer as Mercades used their tokens on aero I believe. This means with added pressure of the cost cap, RB taking on a 2nd driver who may actually do well and a few aero changes by 21 regs... the grounds may be closer than they have been in years.

Finally a Honda Brand front and center as it should be and should have been ages ago. This is how a Honda powered F1 car should be labelled not subdued or apologetic.

The reason Red Bull gets closer at the end of the season, is that when Mercedes secures the titles, starts focusing on next season car. It also helps them so that FIA doesn't change the rules dramatically and Mercedes can keep the distance from Ferrari and Red Bull.

I think a lot of the Mercedes advantage will be chiseled away. But it's up to them how much.
