Honestly depends how I got the iron. If I see no iron nearby or I if got from a chest or a golem I'd rather make a bucket since it makes travelling way easier. If I'm in a cave and I see plenty of iron I'd make a pickaxe first

Lava bucket is less risky with loot drops but you require more timing skills and is more damaging, you can put it on a pig for less than 2 seconds and then punch it to death for free food and early game these are banger weapons.
