The square wave is simply a twisting chain with supports to give it a square shape. When the chain part is twisted, it becomes shorter, causing gravity and tension in the supports to pull it apart and down, untwisting it.

I own the second one, the trick is to never look at the bottom it’s the top you should focus on. Treat it as if the handle is your hand trying to balance a stick. It’s also easier the faster you try to do it.
