    More info that was promised-
What is likely happening is that the sharks can smell the blood but it's just not in a quantity that is interesting to them especially since they don't love human blood that much (btw, I spoke with a marine biologist and mammal blood is all the same from a chemical marker stand point so cow blood is a suitable substitute for human blood). If I did the experiment again, I would want to test human blood vs. fish blood.

This is the most definitive study done to date in a control lab environment on what is least and most interesting to them: The Biology of Sharks and Rays Peter A. Klimley and Steven Oerding; ISBN-13: 9780226442495. Particularly pages 134-140. Figure 6.7; Table 6.2

Summary: I've always wanted to test if sharks can really smell a single drop of blood in the water from 1 mile away. So I went to the Bahamas in shark infested waters and set up an experiment to get to the bottom of things.

I’m just curious if the results would be different if you were dealing with great whites or bull sharks.

I love how he swims with a ton of sharks and I just sprint out of the water scared AF when a seaweed touches my leg.

This just taught me that sharks are a lot more gentle than I thought they were

The mistake was, doing the second experiment, after the sharks already knew- those boards had disappointing surf boards, only with blood. The sharks probably remember and learned from what just happened earlier. If you have chose a different place and day, might have been more accurate, I believe.

When they swam with the sharks the sharks actually looked adorable

We have this over exaggerated image of sharks in our mind due to all the movies and series we watch, but this video makes everything so much more clear. Loved the video!

I feel like there is one variable you didn't account for. The boat. They seemed more interested in the boat.

Im more concerned by the fact that sharks seemed to know there was no food on those boards but kept following the boat

This guy has way too much fun with science. I practically pass out when I need to study for a science test haha

One issue: The Sharks may be accustomed to boats providing leftover food/fish. This seems likely as they are seemingly following the boat. Such a stimulus may alter the conditional neutrality of the project.

I feel like they'd be more interested in the motor noises if anything. That or the noises coming from the boat full of humans. Sharks don't care about most kinds of blood (it smells nice but it's like smelling a bottle of perfume, you're not exactly going to want to go drink it). It'd be more interesting to use blood of their typical prey and compare to blood not from their typical prey.

I like how the sharks were more aggressive with a single camera, than large amounts of blood 😂

He should use remote controlled blood surfboards to coordinate and choreograph an underwater shark ballet and film it from the sky

If they could do this by blood types, that would be really some contribution to science.

There probably should’ve been some form of paddle system on this, only to simulate human splashing or swimming. Sharks are relatively smart and probably caught on to the whole “yeah it’s a board” thing

I'm wondering if the sharks were simply more interested in the boat than the boards.

I feel that the boat heavily impacted this because the sharks always remained by the boat

Why do I watch Mark’s vids with a combination of awe at his creativity and intellect, snort of disbelief at his antics, shaking my head feeling sorry for his wife and mother, staring at the ceiling wondering if I could do that, snort again and laugh at how incredibly ridiculously fun his experiments are and then watch another Mark Roper vid? Am I the only one? Keep ‘em coming!
