Of all the aspects of this project, the one that seems not to get enough praise is Leo’s skill as a storyteller. It’s not just that he takes lovely videos of beautiful and interesting bits of a beautiful and interesting boat, it’s also that he weaves all of that into compelling story that would work even if it was all told in prose alone.

North Olympic Peninsula is my favorite place in America. The area is definitely a gem. I spent 10 years in Port Angeles, close to Sequim. Port Townsend was too expensive for me to live there, but I would in a heartbeat if I could afford it. Regularly went there for the ferry..

Vor year@dr.buzzvonjellar8862 +8

Vor year@SBBurzmali +1
Also the most expensive, that launch along costs 10 - 20 times as much as a decent inflatable.
Vor year@pappabob29 +12
@@SBBurzmali That may be true but the "value" is not "comparable"!! Kinda like comparing the "MonaLisa" with a Red Skelton Clown paintings. Both are "paintings" but one is a "masterpiece"! Also like driving into a service station with a Rolls Royce and filling the tank with the "low price" fuel!! The Tally Ho, Stem to Stern, represents a labor of love --- and--- NOTHING BUT THE BEST, with no compromises. Throughout this process/build, Leo has considered cost "among" many other considerations when making his decisions.

I often wondered what happened to Russel. We used to live on Ruxton Is in BC and we'd see him now and then in his proa. It was very fast. He hasn't changed, a gentle kind soul of which there are many in the PNW. Here in Australia you have to go to Tasmania to find the same vibe. Must be the colder weather. One thing that we have like nowhere else is lot's of parrots though. I'm happy about that.

Russell's father is a legend -- famous for his constant camber" technique, Russell is also known for his "pacific" proa designs. (That is, a proa where the main hull is to leeward--unlike Dick Newick's "Cheers" which used the outrigger as buoyant righting moment)

Bound is boatless man. Judging by the look on your face Leo, you seem struck by the PT11, we love the grin when you are racing the canoe. TALLY HO has a new friend to share your attention and you have a small boat to refresh your soul. For folks who have spent a lifetime of longing to be on the water, and in tune with water, this design offers a lot of attributes and balance, thanks to Mr. Brown sharing his nautical knowledge. There are always compromises in small boat design, design constraints are challenging, trying to pack a lot of utility into a small package. Will the dinghy tend TALLY HO or vice versa? And we'd like to send a thank all of those folks who contribute to your videos on screen or off stage, we are grateful for a peek into their adventures. Cheers, Clark and Skipper
Vor year@peterburns007
Hey Leo, After 10 years of cruising and living full time on our boat there is one thing we learned that is almost absolute. Your cruising experience will be defined more by your dinghy than almost any other factor. Yes, a hard sailing dinghy will be fun and reliable but in terms of practical, liveaboard standards what you will find is that your dinghy will determine, in lots of cases, the following: Where you anchor, who you buddy with ( other sailing boats) , how much you can transport, where you gravitate locally, time spent getting supplies and parts, and the list goes on and on. We found the best combination to be a large tubed RIB with a 15 hp to 20 hp Yamaha on davits. The other important cruising element about your boat will be a good reliable water maker. Good luck and Good sailing Leo, All the Best ....Peter

The thing i love the most about Leo and this channel: every decision is driven by a sound mind, anchored in logic. That original tender would've been lovely to see built, but it does not suit what Tally Ho is now.

Well, every decision except starting the project in the first place. What a beautiful, functional, and brilliantly designed little boat! It reminds me of the Shellback sailing dinghy I desperately wanted to build as a kid. It wasn't a nesting dinghy, but the lines were similar. It is always difficult to design/build something that excels in multiple areas, but I would think this little boat with functional modern innovations where they make sense combined with the classic look and feel of a real wooden sailing dinghy would make the perfect tender for Tally Ho. Oh, yes, and the two fun loving dorks struggling to remain composed as they explain that they paint boats. That was fun. Love the dingy.
Vor year@masonjar706 +1
I realize as a classic yacht the dinghy probably should also have classic lines, But as a lifelong cruiser ,live-aboard for over 20 years, and yacht tender manufacturer, I feel that you have left out a few features of tenders that come in handy. Stability is high on the list. Getting out of that dinghy and onto the dock without tipping or falling is going to be pretty exciting. And if the dinghy dock is full you will have to exit over the bow. Also most if not all boats anchored out want a dinghy that will plane with a small motor. Really extends usage and enhances the fun factor. Of course boat designers have to take the tender into consideration when designing a boat. Something not many do.

All these wonderful innovations will make Tally Ho live at least a hundred years!

My folks always had a sailboat in my youth and we had a little El Toro sized sailing dinghy. The one you have there is really nice! With the super light weight I bet the performance under sail is pretty decent.

Leo, thanks for your very informative overview of tenders. Despite being a landlubber , I found it to be highly interesting.
