As the sea, the piece ripples and has its moments of silence and serenity. Such an expressive piece! Love it.

Good background, ambient music, but doesn't congeal too well. The composer doesn't know how to keep a piece together and moving along, a problem with a lot of contemp. music (of the suspenseful, meandering kind). In short, too dry and passive.

Completely disagree. But that's why music is subjective.

I think this could be called abstract programme music, in that it's basically atonal and using modern or completely original compositional methods, yet why can I almost feel the cold salty sea air as I listen to it?

This piece is composed for flute alto and guitar. Takemitsu uses the guitar rather often, probably by analogy with a traditional Japanese instrument. The song of the flute is splendid. Using a flute alto allows gaining some tones in the medium range, and the sonority of the instrument is splendid. The guitar is not strictly limited to the accompanying: it happens sometimes that some melodic cells are given to it. All in all, an austere but highly successful piece of Takemitsu.

Not yet. I have no ways of leaving this house. It's very complicated. I must first finish university and then get a job, meet someone with whom i could make a living... pfff it's too complicated.
