Having been a teenager in the '80s, this trend looks very familiar to me. God, I actually hope this theory comes true. I HATE going clothes shopping, and every bit of men's clothing is neutral colors, blacks, jeans, and t shirts. Although, now that you mention it, I have noticed that the t-shirts have been getting more colorful. I've always envied ladies' fashion and its wide gamut of colors.
Vor 3 Monate@crashb800 +5
Definitely yes, and also hopefully this can become true about some of the silhouettes (skirts, dresses, puffed shoulders) that seemingly only women have access to. I'm thinking of things such as medieval fantasy wizards that have access to a silhouette that is essentially a dress while still looking masculine.

Also can't leave home without my black leather Biker jacket
Vor 3 Monate@stevenmichel7270 +10
i like borign black suits dark purple is awesome too tho
Vor 3 Monate@HeavyMetalMouse +12
That's the best part of the whole thing, I think - it's about empowerment and expression. Splash that suave dark purple vest into your 'boring black' suit because it's what speaks to you. Inject some bright greens into your classic Goth fashion to add a blaze of that personal touch. At the end of the day, the important thing is that you reasonably *can* reach deep into the well of expression for the colors that vibe with you, not that you necessarily 'have to' go nuts with them.
Vor 3 Monate@dez9084 +2
@@HeavyMetalMouse This, absolutely. I love all-black outfits, but I always wondered if I was dressing too "plainly" and I think you just helped solve that for me. Texture with black helps to spruce it up a lot, but having a smaller part of the outfit have a pop of colour like you described for that "blaze of personal touch" is genius. Cons: Traps heat, weak to blunt force and attacks to the gaps for movement, and the slight extra-weight and minor hinderance to mobility -And if you chose to wear a helmet, Hindered visibility. -Side note: contrary to popular belief: Battle-grade Plate armor is not very heavy or restricting. The average Knight in full plate armor can do dark souls rolls and even mount horses without any assistance. The misconception comes from Jousting armor, which was made to protect the wearer at all costs, making it impractical for real battle.

Though being a woman has its downsides one of my favorite aspect of it is the amount of choice and versatility we have in the clothes we wear, and I really want this for men too! They should be able to use fashion and style as a form of self expression as much as we can and I hope to see more men wearing outfits with kenergy or just men being more experimental in fashion :D.

Thanks for the 101 Fashion History vid Mat. I learned ALOT more than i ever expected in a Barbie episode

Yes finally! I would love to see to a change to menswear. It always feels so sidelined! I hope men embrace the wave of colour!

As much as I like the idea I really doubt a majority of men will start dressing in more colors and accessories. Most men I know rarely even wear a watch

Style theory idea: how often should one wash their towels? According to the video y’all did on soap, it doesn’t get you clean, so could towels be potentially making us even dirtier?

Hey MatPat, I'd love to see an episode about barefoot shoes from a style, practical, and health standpoint. Is there any research on their claims?

I did Barbie right after Oppenheimer and I found Ken to be so fascinating when seen as a sort of mirror to the men in Oppenheimer. Like them, he is desperate for validation from the men and women in his life, just in different ways. And like the men in Oppenheimer, this need for validation has disastrous consequences

THANK YOU, I literally needed men’s fashion to be changed so bad, I’m so happy
Vor 3 Monate@NemoIncognito
Why?
Vor 3 Monate@PDD555 +3
@@NemoIncognitoprobably because it's generic and flat. While woman get to wear 1500 different dresses man fashion is always the same shirt with 100 different prints
Vor 3 Monate@NemoIncognito +1
@@PDD555 Doesn't 1,500 different dresses seem a bit outlandish to you? Besides, worrying about the style of clothes for the sake of looking chic seems to be a first world problem.

So that's why fashion blogs warned me that bold colors were gonna become a new trend FINALLY SOME COLORS!! ngl i can't express how excited i was when i saw the first fuchsia and neon green colored hoodies and see bold prints on shirts suddenly. I love myself color in my fits, now it's actually also becoming a possibility without having to go to the womens section😌

As a man I personally didn't think Ken's clothing went far enough. The closest thing was the faux mink jacket and the outfit from the MojoDojoCasaHouse with a bandana. Otherwise it was generic Hawaiian shirts, workout shirts, and cowboy outfits. No kilts, no robes, no interesting hats even. The most interesting male piece of clothing to me was actually the zip up polo shirt from Allan in the Marketing shot saying "there's only one Allan". With the reasoning that it's more casual with a button up without needing imagery that makes them look more like Hawaiian shirts than polo's.
Vor 3 Monate@jeanlove4186 +1
This is really interesting because I can already see this happening with my oldest brother. He mainly wears fashionable shirts and shoes on outings. Mainly because he doesn't go out often. But if I go in my brothers closet I swear I see one side full of black, white, gray, and brown shirts. While the other is baby blue, purple and bright green shirts and some with patterns. Interesting seeing his taste in clothes expand.

This is what I love about the Barbie movie so much. It addresses all the issues about women but also leans into how these things can affect men too (basically the patriarchy). I never unserstand men that uphold the patriarchy, it holds them back just as much.

4:36 the first major fashion shift for men's fashion from film can actually be traced to a full twos decades earlier than the 50's. In the film, It Happened One Night Clark Gable removed his shirt to reveal he wasn't wearing an undershirt because it was messing up the pacing of the scene. The men's undershirt industry never recovered.

Vor 3 Monate@prozythos8397
I constantly feel 'underdressed' alongside my S.O. because men's fashion is so limited and the few ways there are to dress up are not really my thing. Ive been experimenting more with my style and adding more warm, relaxed colors has been a big part of it. Cant deny though that a more grunge outfit with a hoodie is still my go-to.

You called me out so hard. I am a man that only owns casual graphic tees and hoodies lol. Legit when me and my partner, an extremely fashionable woman, watched the barbie movie together. I saw the "Kenough" hoodie on screen and leaned over to her and said "Oh MY GOD can I ?!?!?!?!" She interrupted me and said "Yes omg that would be so cute on you!!!". I pre-ordered the hoodie walking out of the theater and I cant wait for it to ship later in Sep. Also I love the idea of wearing more colors. Haha, this from a man who has literally not changed his style in 10 years.
