We need more Shaqs in the world. As a person with Bipolar & Depression, I need some of these empowering words in a strong, aggressive, no B/S manner. I never had a Dad in my life to teach me to push through the hardest challenges of my life, but hearing the things Shaq said here & HOW he said it makes me feel like nothing can stop me. Taking medication is part of that. You do what you have to do to get right and keep it pushing, and know that EVERYBODY has issues to overcome. Less coddling. More motivating.

I can not imagine being in Joel Embiid’s shoes with Ben Simmons as a teammate. Consider this, Embiid started playing at age 15 and in the next 10 years not only became an excellent defender,a monster in the paint, but also developed an excellent jump shot. Ben Simmons meanwhile was the son of a professional basketball player, played it his whole life and steadfastly refused to develop the single most important skill in the game. Meanwhile the entire Sixers team and organization were forced to walk on eggshells around it.

Vor 2 Monate

Shaq didn't develop any real skills either he dunk 99% of the time he played? foul shooting was the only thing he couldn't do he had no perimeter shot and no 3-pointer.. At that time I like players like Patrick Ewing, Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon because they did more than just dunk the ball. To me Shaq was just a big bully even he said he had to calm down after the first two years of playing professional ball. And what's with the x-ray vision sunglasses he got on???

@Intoxicated Daze Your exactly right! Great point❗️ I have often said the players of this Era couldn't play for Chuck Daly, or Phil Jackson, or Pat Riley. Those coaches would get up in your grill, during time outs, substitutions, or at halftime if your weren't playing at the level they felt you should be and *CURSE YOU OUT* if your effort was not up to par!!! These players would pout, have tantrums and start crying.... Ben Simmons, "Why does Shaq have to reach out to you 🤔. If he's your big Bruh from your Alum, why can't you call/Text him and ask for advice❓️ That's what we as "Ol Skoolers" were taught to do. You and all these other millionaires are saying you have mental health issues. That may be true, but some of y'all are using this as a crutch, to exsolve your inconsistent, terrible play! Try going to some hospitals in your local area and you'll really see what some who have mental health issues are struggling/dealing with....

Shaq ain mean off the court. On the court yes but not off. What Shaq has is called “tough love”. He doesn’t criticize to hate nore be mean he does it push you to be better. If I was a player in the League I would graciously accept any criticism Shaq threw my way and use it to analyze and tighten up my game. I whole heartedly feel that Shaq doesn’t want ANY player in the NBA to fail or fall on their face, but he knows what it takes to win in that sport and play at a high level AND he’s seen it all so he’s just calling it how he sees it. You can’t confuse “hate” with “constructive criticism”. If Simmons digs deep and starts playing at a high level I know Shaq would acknowledge it. Three things that don’t lie. The Score, The Ball, and The Stats.

I'mma give Ben the benefit of the doubt. During the interview, he seemed sincere. He's starting to speak out, and then there are people who'd say, "He's still thin-skinned." You know, sometimes, you just gotta show compassion and empathy. Ben's starting to talk, be out there, and be available for the media. It's a process. Eventually, he'll be tougher, or he'll stay the same. But he's taking some steps to get back to his old, confident self. I'll just choose to support that.

At the end of the day, It is all up to Ben to show what kind of player he wants to be. It is what it is with his jump shot (even within the post it is below average for a player his size) and free throws. If he can be at peace with what he produces here on out, then good for him as long as it will benefit his team. There are hall of famers who doesn't have Ben's skillset. But they thrived on their roles and they were dogs. They fought against everything that was thrown against them in the game and in life to be able to perform the best they can. I really hope Ben overcomes this mental hurdle since he is still a person.

Shaq always goes at players hard for their lack of toughness and desire to win, but in my opinion, he’s insecure about his own failures in these areas. I saw Shaq his whole career, and he was always a bit of an underachiever, as great as he was. He played his way into shape most years and he didn’t add moves to his skill set as he got older. I agree with Shaq to some extent but some guys like Shaq, MJ and Kobe need tough love and criticism to bring the best out of them, while others (Ben Simmons, perhaps KD, Russ) respond better to positive reinforcement and support to express themselves... Different culture, different mindset and we're not all wired the same... Perhaps the GOAT's have always been fueled by adversity, but it ain't the case for everybody and they also need to understand that to each his own...

Some of us know about Ben's situation; it wasn't just about Philly there was other stuff happening. Even Morey said they should have done more for Ben. Anyway Media Day for Nets went well - much better fit for Ben at Brooklyn

“If you’re greater you can’t be a hater” this is the exact reaction I expected from Shaq after Ben said he wants Shaq to “protect him” that guy only wants to hear the good things that’s why he lacks accountability.

@PyroGandhi Your logic is what is cringe here, saying he changed and that he has taken account for his actions because he casually says so in 1 safe space interview in 2 years 🤣 And all the things you mentioned are years in the past, they dont prove he has taken responsibility nor that he is a better player than what he was before. He has barely improved since going into the league, he has no drive to get better and his excuses during the interview prove it. 🥱 He is wasting so much talent, he could be an MVP if he cared enough to improve. 🤦‍♂️

@AaronExile Easter conference finals, rookie of the year, multiple all nba and all star appearances are among some of the feats that many nba never reach. If you compare him to the Lebron or curry’s of the world sure he hasn’t won MVPs or championships, but he has the potential to attempt those feats. Whether or not he does is yet to be seen but I think it’ll be exciting to see and im glad he’s in the nba rather than not.

@Aaron Li and now he is. You don’t think people can change/grow? I don’t care for Ben that much, it’s just cringe to see the people who still harp on the situation 3 years ago and still talk about accountability even after he proves to have taken some time to self reflect and realize how his actions and the actions of those around him have effected his character. Like this aren’t so black and white Jesus.

Shaq is right but if we're being honest, this might have been the first time Ben had to face adversity in his 24-year-old (at the time) life. He needs to be allowed to make mistakes too. But because he dragged this out for so long and didn't handle it well, I think people have lost patience with him.

I agreed with Shaq till he said people with mental health problems are always down. When I am out I smile, when I am at work everyone thinks I am always in a good mood, but when I get home and left to my own thoughts I fall apart and cry for hours. So just because someone doesnt look down all the time doesnt mean they dont have something they are fighting.

I respect Shaq's point of view as a champion and an all time great. At the same time, it's a bully mindset. A bully thinks it's justified to be mean to you and critical of you cuz they're "making you better" and "toughening you up" Even when someone tells them they don't like that, "too bad, that's how the world will treat you, deal with it." It's a lie that a bully tells himself and everyone else that gives them permission to be mean.

as someone who has a great deal of respect for Shaq, I’m actually really disappointed in some of the things he had to say here. to write off Ben’s mental health issues just because “everyone has struggles” and because he has money and celebrity girlfriends really shows to me that he hasn’t really struggled in that way. and to not be able to admit you’re wrong about something as trivial as the cellphone in the pocket thing - bruh, go back and watch the tape. it’s clearly a blue and white jersey. cmon Shaq

Shaq doesn't understand what modern day athletes face with regards to the level criticism that they receive from social media, TV etc. Every little action is scrutinized. Shaq saying he's done it all and whatever is all fine and well but that's the key difference. This why I appreciate JJ Reddick, Matt Barnes, RJ, Jay Will. Shaq also cannot take a joke to his face. There are many examples of this on air with Kenny and Chuck.

I watched the Ben Simmons interview and I am glad he got his turn to talk, cuz he did get a lot of hate, although some of it I do think he deserved. He is a prima donna, his actions speak louder than his words. Regardless of what he was "going through" he handled it poorly. You wanna be in the NBA for the money, girls, cars etc. and treat every game like a GQ photo shoot? well the flip side is hate and criticism if you play bad. You know what you signed up for.

Shaq's ego is insane and its a function of how sensitive he is. He talks about how he doesn't care about people criticizing him for his free throws but that is a bold face lie. I’m fully on board with Shaq holding Benjamin accountable for his softness. I can’t go along with Shaq’s idea that “if you’re greater you can’t be a hater”. That’s full on cap. That Ben Simmons interview was skewed and quite biased . But at the same time I think it was done that way because he doesn't seem to want to do anything with media people right now (at least the ones he doesn't trust) . The fact that Ben said Shaq is 'hating on him' means he didn't understand what Shaq was saying. If anyone should be mad at Shaq and Charles Barkley for 'hating on them' its Joel Embiid! They threw so much critcism on him that he decided to use that to become an MVP calibre player . At the end of the day I think we all just want Ben to reach his potential. It sounds like he doesn't want to get better at his shooting and is comfortable being a DPOY candidate which is fine. Looking forward to seeing him get back on the floor and being great
