@adamushu You're not far off. When I was a young kid I hated spicy things. My parents cooked with a variety of seasonings, but I refused them all because I couldn't handle them. That didn't last long though. Before I was 10 I started seeking spicy foods out on my own, and I've loved it since. It's true that you can build your tolerance to the point where stuff seems legitimately less spicy, but I've noticed my tolerance also seems to fluctuate fairly randomly. There are days I'll eat food made with Carolina Reaper peppers and feel absolutely nothing, and other days where I'll eat Xxtra Flamin Hot Cheetos and taste heat. I'm certainly not the best around when it comes to handling spice, but that's part of why I like spicy foods, honestly. It wouldn't be the same if there were no burn whatsoever. Nonetheless, I'm glad to hear you're able to enjoy a variety of spices on your food these days. Food's just too bland without it.

@Tropic Hawk I assume you have been eating spicy food since you were young, Spice tolerance is a thing that you gain and lose over time by eating or not eating spicy food. I'm deliberately trying to increase mine over time by eating spicy food like ramens, and i've noticed my tolerance change, and not just in a "more used to it" way, but in a "literally less spicy" way. I used to be unable to handle sweet chili heat doritos, but now that my tolerance is better i can actually enjoy the flavour, same goes for spicy ramens/sausages/chili's/burritos/etc. For reference i'm Polish Canadian, practically no capsaicin spice other than a bit of black pepper and salt for the majority of my life.

to be completely fair, schlatt's at a slight disadvantage because women's pain tolerance is (disputedly) higher. Although men experience less pain due to the way things are wired, the tolerance is slightly lower as well.
