I respectfully disagree with most of you. I suspect Sacha was more interested with the sensational side of Freddie's life, rather than him as a talented musician and an artist. Also as much as I like Sacha Baron Cohen, he is more of a destructive force, he just doesn't have the right energy to play the part. Freddie was a positive character, who brought millions of people together. I think those are things that the other Queen members picked on and therefore they made the right call to look for someone else. Also, a little trust would go a long way in this world. It really baffles me how you wouldn't trust the original band members, Brian and Roger, who were with Freddie from the beginning and were so close to him to the end. Instead you would side with a random actor who never met Freddie in his life, just because he happens to be your favourite actor. Wow what true, genuine, Queen fans you are! I'm sure Freddie would've been proud with you... not! (get it? it's a Borat joke)

Freddie Mercury himself with his voice and presence without the music was a sight to be seen..together the band made queen a legend...my dad said to me as a kid when i said whos the greatest singer..he said straight away freddie mercury when i asked in 2002 he hasnt heard of anyone with a voice range n quality of his from oprah to rock..when i got older i understood what he meant :)...born 85 :)

Love Queen, my all time favourite band but this movie is going to suck big time. I remember when it was announced and thought, 'great, a movie about Queen' and also thinking that something like this was long overdue. Sacha Baron Cohen was the perfect guy to play Freddie, he would have nailed it in my opinion. This film was announced a good few years ago and still they've not started it. There's reported problems with scripts, writers and what direction the film is taking, is it about the band or is it just about Freddie? No one seems to know. Apparently they're talking to to the 3rd guy who will play Freddie after the 2nd guy decided that it wasn't right for similar reasons to Baron Cohen. It's been dragging on now and think it should just be shelved before someone/the band makes a cringey total mess of a movie.

The only way this Queen film would work would be if the film's last half an hour was the Tribute Concert to Freddie at Wembley Stadium, where the other band mates get closure over Freddie's death. What would happen in this movie? Adam Lambert joins the band at the end then the credits roll?

Game of Thrones is a story though. Story is the key word. If it's a Freddy Mercury BIOPIC, why would he die half way through? It's a movie about him. I understand that May and Rogers want to do a Queen film, but that's a different story altogether. Make both films. Hahaha

Cohen is right, why would you have the main character die in the middle of the movie? Without Mercury there is no Queen, he's one of the greatest singers of all time very few fans care about what happened to the band after his passing.

Here is how you do that movie. You start with the band today. Then you interview them about Freddie Mercury. You are the interviewer. Then as you ask them about stories about Freddie we flash back to you as Freddie. Then the stories get crazier and crazier. We, the audience, have no idea what is real and what is Freddie Mercury mythology. All bases are covered. We close on "These are the Days of our Lives." Get in touch, Sacha, I'll write it for you.

It's a moot point at this point, anyhow. Cohen has dropped from the project. I wish they'd get one of the great impersonators to do it. They may have no name draw, but getting Freddie just right in the film is more important. I'd play him, for fuck's sake. I'm a great mimic, singer, musician, and actor, and I LOVE Queen. And I'm only 2 inches away from Fred's height.

Why do Brain May and Roger Taylor own the rights to Freddie's biopic anyway? Brain May must be insane if he thinks a movie about Queen is half Freddie, half them now going on tour with Adam Lambert and putting Freddie's songs on every advert from sofa's to every other advert that has a Queen song on. How ridiculous. Sacha should work with Freddies family and do his own movie. The public want Sacha as Freddie!

I understand The rest of Queen's point of view (the band wasn't ONLY Mercury), BUT, they MUST understand, that ending Mercury's life in the middle would just NOT make for a GOOD movie! (They should understand, that Cohen would've been THE MOST PERFECT actor for that role, AND ALSO, that showing Mercury's death towards the END of the film, WOULDN'T make viewers think less of them. Infact, it would probably gain them NEW fans.)

Such a shame that this biopic with Sacha as Freddie Mercury never came to be - he would have made a fantastic Freddie, not only do they look very similar in facial appearance but Sacha can really sing too (as evidenced in "Sweeney Todd" & "Les Miserables"). Too bad that the remaining members (or 1 member) of Queen were so hell-bent on getting their way with their ridiculous version of the movie continuing on for another half a movie after Freddie died - no one would have wanted to see that! Most people want to see a Freddie Mercury biopic - not a Freddie Mercury (& those other guys who were also in the band Queen who are now a bunch of old farts who no one even knows their names aside from die-hard Queen fans) biopic! :P

They could've easily written the film about Freddie's career, and left his illness to the last half hour of the film, but portraying him as a hero who ignored it and continued recording music. Last scene would be him swigging vodka and belting out 'The Show Must Go On', then end. No dwelling on his death.

wtf! I hope that's not true. That would really suck. They need to be honest about how he lived. "Don't Stop Me Now" even Freddie said he was having a good time so you can be honest and still not destroy his legacy. The Movie about the " Doors " showed how Jim lived his life and I thought that was a really good bio. (just my opinion) so its ok to tell the truth. in Freddies words " Just don't make me boring darling " before he passed. I think Sacha Baron made some great points and would of been good for the movie but I am sure Queen still will find a great actor to portray Freddie.....1~Luv   P.s (Queen, if you read this comment.
