I remember there was this homeless man that came to our McDonald’s every day and ordered a small coffee with the money he always got one day our manger came over and gave him a meal and the coffee and said “come here for breakfast lunch and supper.” Everyone in the store chipped in paying for it. Well one day he came walking in, suit, tie, clean. He got back on his feet and asked everyone to come out to dinner. Seems he had a family member who didn’t know where he was and when learning of us wanted to treat us to a good dinner

My man really respected him. Great people these days.

The other day a young lady, she couldn’t have been more the 19-20 was standing at an exit next to Walmart with her dog panhandling. I gave her 5 bucks as I drove through the exit and drove home to put my groceries away. She stuck in my mind. I went back, parked and spoke with her asking if she needed anything. She said she was fine in dog food but could really use a blanket or a tarp and some baby wipes. I went to Walmart and spent 100 100 bucks on a quilt, lots of baby wipes, Dr. Bronners soap, two tarps, socks and underwear. She was so happy when I gave it to her. She said she was taking her best friend out of San Fransisco to go up north and live by the river (the soap made her happy because it’s all natural and she can use it to bathe in the river) in order to get her friend away from the drug scene. I wished her the best and went back home. I really hope she’s doing ok. I’m lucky enough to be stable right now and I just hope what ever I could get her would make her life easier.

This hits just as hard as when i first sawnit in the middle of the pandemic. Good people everywhere. Good intentions and good actions. People may hate you sometimes, but you keep doing the right thing. And it all adds up in the end.

I was on the streets for a while and kindness goes a hell of a long way. If anyone is wondering how they can help the homeless in their area; if you are in an area that gets very cold during winter months, the helping someone into a warm place like a cafe for a coffee to recharge and fully warm up is one of the best things. When you are living out in the cold you don't get to feel saturated with heat very often. When you are feeling that deeper cold it takes more energy to get around and heavily limits options for movement and productive forward movement. It also lifts a weight from the mind and gives a moment to breathe to get warm. The same applies in reverse when it's too hot. Money is not a problem to give, but it's always better to help directly if you are going to offer hundreds or thousands. When you are on the streets 5$ is a game changing for a day or two. 50 is a good 2 weeks of getting what we need assuming there was a kitchen. $100 means new equipment and everything before. Honestly it would be better if they could sit down with someone and address the needs for an individual so they have the means to get on their feet and stay there.
