@john patrick Yeah I don't think anybody in the Doors gave you this video to be thankful for. Maybe you should thank youtube and capitalism that gives you the opportunity to steal others work?

This is what I tried explaining to my brothers back in 2007 or 2008. Ray would play bass and keyboard for The Doors. I feel sad I never saw him live or met him. I could have but I was only a kid back then. I hope to meet John Densmore and Robby Krieger one day. And to you Mr. Mojo Risin, we all know nothing would be possible without you. -One of your biggest fans

Brilliant. This song scared me as a little boy. Years later as an adult I hear it on the radio on my Walkman riding a bus. The compression in the airwaves really opened up the atmosphere of the production and for the first time I really heard Jim Morrison's double-tracked vocals, specifically his whispering. I was like, "Whoa, this is SO good."

We used to listen to Ray and the band at "Mother Neptune's," aka The Coffee Shop, in W. Hollywood, back in 1965. This was before one of our crowd, Felix, Ray's cohort at the UCLA film school, suggested to Ray that he read The Doors of Perception. Ray was brilliant with numerous instruments. For the film he and Felix did for their class project (titled "Les angeS Dorment," it featured Felix's gorgeous girlfriend dropping acid, with excellent film work, psychedelic colors and patterns, and Mary's lovely smile at the end), Ray supplied the missing soundtrack (they'd run out of time making the film) by standing on the stage just to the right of the screen, playing flute improv. Sends chills down my aging spine just remembering his genius. And that of the other guys....

Not sure why but I've always gotten a sort of Dave Brubeck vibe from this song. By the same token, when l listen to "Take Five" l always imagine a dimly lit street at about 2 AM on a rainy night.

Just phenomenal construction of a brilliant song. If you can't get to the greatness of tracks like "Riders On the Storm" or "L.A. Woman", then you just don't want to like the band. So screw you, ya hung up, twat.

I was in shock and awe first time i heard this. Nice to see this doc. I still wonder why, in my view, these great pop rock songs are bound to that era. Must have been the whole revolution's power in music spirituality of western countries. We won't see The likes of that again. That creativity is gone.

it's really just a psychchadelic band playing a country western song with a flamenco guitar player, a classical organist, a jazz drummer with rockabilly vocals...yet it influenced The Stooges...The Cramps and Misfits.

Ray Manzark's organ was the thing that made the Doors different from all the other bands. It took a while for listeners to buy in because it was so different. Then all of a sudden, people woke up and said, what!!!, that is amazing!

For whatever reason, Ray's rendition of the organ solo doesn't sound nearly as good here as it does on the original track from the L.A.Woman album, but the song is pure genius, nevertheless. The only fascinating thing about Riders On The Storm is that it didn't peak at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100--and stay there for about 10 weeks. It was that good of a song. It actually only made it to #14, which is a complete mystery to me, as many songs that didn't have what that song had going for it fared much better back in '71, which was a stellar year for Pop/Rock/Top 40 hits, by the way. In terms of the entire L.A. Woman album, it's the Doors' best effort, IMO--and when you can beat out albums like their debut album from 1966 and Strange Days from '67, that's saying something. There isn't a lousy or boring song on L.A. Woman, and the originality of it as a quality piece of work is something that stands alone, enhanced all the more by Jim Morrison's unique vocals. RIP, JM. Too bad we never got to see what would have come next if you'da hung around!!

I was a young kid, 13 to be exact ...growing up on the South Side of Chicago....when I heard this song. It mesmerized me from the start, even more so, the first time I heard it during a thunder storm. All these years later it is still one of my favorites. And now, hearing Ray tell of it's origins, it means that much more to me. Thank you Chi-town guy for the music you all gave us, continue to rest in peace.
