@Paul Allen i never said he was a top driver. And we could go on a hypothetical tangent about how he spent the most of his career in a middle of the pack team. But, at then end Perez did what Gasly and Albon failed to do consistently-- and ultimately it was a winning decision for Red Bull despite the short comings. Not to mention the fan base, sponsorship money, and positivity he's brought to the team. It's a goat move even if his tenure is short when an academy/alpha tauri driver is promoted to that second seat.

To OP. Crazy that people still rate a driver with a "whopping" 16 podiums in 220 starts in F1. A pole after a record long 219 races and just two wins - both of which were due to the misfortune of the others ahead of him (Russell in Sakhir, Verstappen in Baku) and therefore still not a win on merit. The team principals gave points to their top 10 drivers in 2021 and all their points were accumulated into a "team principals championship for drivers". Guess what? Perez wasn't on the top-10 list. Doesn't surprise me one bit but for some reason there are a lot of people out there who consider him a top driver. "He's always where he needs to be" Well, not in 2021. Because his whopping 5 podiums (when Verstappen took a record 18 in a single season) made Red Bull lose the constructors' title. You people are beyond belief.

As a Mercedes fan you can't be to disappointed with the race results under the circumstances. If they get things figured out in the next race or 2, they will be right back in it. Even now, wit a clearly slower car, they are already "In it".

Every team had the same rules and the same time to readapt the car, it's not like they get the best out of it for any reason but the engineers and the staff competence. Saying that one of the reasons why LeClerc is winning is because Ferrari has a better car is very fair, so as Mercedes had in the past years. Saying this has any thing to do with luck is not at all. I find myself more and more impressed by George Russell. He has been amazingly consistent, especially when you consider the pressure he must be under from having a teammate who is a seven-time F1 champion. Despite being a member of the third-fastest team, he's finished well in every race and is doing yeoman's work at keeping Mercedes in the fight until they can figure out how to fix their suspension issues. I predict that he will be a multiple champion himself one day.

@SimbarocksONE  Looks quicker atm? Hamilton was comfortably faster than George all weekend. The only reason he ended up behind George (excluding bad luck) was because his engine started overheating. In Bahrain Hamilton was comfortably quicker too. Jeddah is a strange case because there was obviously, even to my unprofessional eye, something very strange with that Mercedes in qualifying. But even in the race, Hamilton was lapping close to George’s pace on 30 lap older hards near the end.

@Tim Kramer Factually inaccurate. Stroll was never concerned about Zhou. He was explicitly asked about the Alfa behind during the quali broadcast and said he wasn't moving to the right to make way for the Alfa. Face it. Now that Mazapin is out, Stoll has resumed his position as least likable and least deserving driver on the grid.

@Tasos Rousos still the potential risk of losing a “double win” (since your main rival is out of the race) for just an extra point is definitely unnecessary. Leclerc shouldnt have gone for the fastest lap especially while lapping slower cars. And that comes from a tifozi through and through

@ohkay Well Albon may have matched lap times with other cars but he had to pit one time so loss of almost 20 sec. Stroll holding the pack means Zhou barely missed out 10th when Albon was coming out of pit.

@Alexandros Dimou Truthfully, he was at one time the reason the team stayed afloat until Doriton bought over. Hes not a fantastic driver but at least hes a really nice, likable and humble person. Hes an average driver made to drive some of the worst cars in F1 history. Give a bit of credit.

@Justin Perry C'mon, Ferrari and Redbull are pretty much on the same level this year. Redbull are having more technical issues, but besides that they're making 2nd, 3rd, 4th on the grid. Plus, Max is constantly battling for 1st place with Leclerc, so it's safe to say it's a fair competition. I don't think there's a place for "better car" discussion this year.

Last year, Croft kept saying Hamilton and Verstappen were in a league of their own and people were parroting this. Has LeClerc created a whole new league all of a sudden? Perhaps it is the cars that are the biggest difference makers and this has been proven over decades through analysis of the data. Still, the drivers can differentiate themselves from their teammates.

Fantastic, two of my top three favorite drivers coming 1 and 2. And how great is it to see the Mercedes cars in a bit of a decline after so many years. Still early in the season, but very promising.

From start to finish, charles was just dominant in his Ferrari. Unlucky for sainz, vettel and verstappen...albon was brilliant too since he managed his tyres till the end before his last minute pit stop.

@Stysner if losing out on p2 by 10 metres, losing 3 minutes becaus of his cars ignition failure, having a wrongly mapped steering wheel with completely different setup that was changed one minute before lights out, put on a bad tyre strategy from the start, anti stall of the bat and clutch issues isn't unlucky then idk what is mate

@Tgodx Psweh yes of course it was a mistake on his part geez. No one is denying that but you cant unsee the problems he had before that. All of this wouldn’t have happened if quali went alright and he would qualify a minimum* 4th possibly even higher. Then in the race he fell down due to steering wheel problems and then he was extremely frustrated to get past the slow cars as he wants to be with the top. He wanted to clear them as quickly as possible but misjudged the corner and went off. The last one his mistake which wouldn’t have happened if it was a smooth weekend but at the end of the day its all part of racing. Moving on to the next one

@Carlo55ainz Several other drives started MUCH better on the hard tires.

Sainz had a very weird weekend. Just a cascade of failures really, the unlucky qualifying then the terrible start, making some wrong decisions, and finally when he was going across the grass he COULD'VE gotten back on the track but he put the pedal down and accelerated ON the grass getting him all of sorts and into the gravel, luckily not connecting with any other car. Tough one, weekend to forget for sure. He's a great driver but this kind of thing can happen to him, sometimes he lacks patience and some tracks just really put him off

I think if the first and second corner was redesigned more like Monza then it would make all the difference. Would make for more overtaking into that part of the track. Something needs to be done because the new redesign didn’t make it anymore exciting of a race. Stroll was not fast at all but was holding up faster cars. Albon did 57 laps on one set of tires and finished in the points. The only way to overtake is for the driver in front to make a mistake.
