Pure Skill... How Karate Master Knocked People Out in UFC - Lyoto Machida

What I find most interesting about Machida is the culture combo he represents - a humble Japanese discipline mixed with a brazen Brazilian fire. Truly a master in every aspect. God bless you Lyoto Machida.

@Theo Dutra  what didn’t you understand? I'll make it clear If you have to post about it on YouTube, you know, tell everybody that has NO WAY of confirming it it's probably a story. People in prison love to tell stories. One of the best, most prolific stories is how they are MMA fighters on the outside. In reality they are strung out tweakers who have burned their families. In a context like this, I'm skeptical.

I don't watch stuff like this often but I can tell he's something different from most. Very quick on switching up his style and very quick on using any opportunity to dive in going straight for the head. A lot of others seem to hit once and see how effective it was and land a lot of hits on the back of the head. He lands a hit and if he thinks it was a good one without observing first just dives in with a flurry of blows with great precision to the the front of the head.

If you've never had a friend that had this kind of fighting talent allow you to join him in a friendly sparing match where they hold back any knockout blows, you'll soon realize why these guys are BAD ASS!! I had that opportunity when I was young (24) and in awesome shape. My buddy who had some serious fighting training/skills but was much smaller than I offered to show me his skills after I gave him a bit of friendly shit. I soon realized that could have knocked me out in the first few seconds. Instead, he showed just how fast he was by tapping me around the jaw and midsection and I couldn't block more than one punch (at best) he was so fast, and I couldn't touch him!! I finally had to laugh I felt so out of my league, and he smiled back with a told you so smile. LOL.

Karate works when properly applied to full contact combat. This is true for everything. Lyoto Machida is an excellent fighter, disciplined, focused, makes perfect adjustments and is well prepared to fight anyone. He's had a great example and teacher, his father to guide him along the way. He made a solid decision that paid off and proved that traditional martial arts can still be very effective when applied properly even when he had to go against his sensei and father's advice. But what I like the most about this fighter, this man, is his humbleness and overall respect for others. I could honestly say that Lyoto Machida is my all time favorite fighter. Continued success and blessings to you Brazilian Dragon!

To be honest Lyoto does keep tradition for the most part but he did actually change his karate a little bit. He had to make adjustments and leave some things out in order for it to work in the octagon. The same way Muai Thai had to be changed because nobody goes into MMA using the traditional muai thai stance, it had to be changed.

They didn't even allow him to get close again to the belt with those decisions..just to fall short by a knock out.. that can happen at anytime by a mistake or lapses in judgment in a fight.. and counted on that with guys who were wither faster or taller than him.

The thing that really stands out to me is that Machita always starts by stepping backwards as if he's intimated by his opponent. Once the opponent gets confident enough to attack, Machita counters with a very strong and confident dash forward which catches opponents off guard every time at the start of the match. It seems to intimidate opponents afterwards into thinking they are fighting a genius.

@zachary short Without making half the strikes illegal, wrestlers wouldn't be anywhere near as dominant as they are now, just like they weren't during Pride MMA and just like they aren't under other MMA orgs/champs around the world. Sure, fighters health comes in the first place BUT what's the point in banning 15-20 strikes and making them completely illegal, while allowing wrestlers to do anything they want?! If you're gonna allow wrestlers to be free, then AT LEAST remove some or all illegal moves from the ban list of moves, because that's not fair... If a wrestler grabs you, what are you just supposed to stand there and watch because it's illegal to do anything?!?!?! No bitch, I smash your head on the floor before you can do anything, just like in Pride MMA, fuck your ''illegal'' moves. They should make a separate UFC category with the same rules as Pride MMA.

Vor Tag
zachary short
zachary short

@nelo maratone "now under UFC, ALL OF THAT is ''illegal'' and gets you disqualified from the fight. wrestlers can just wrestle without being punished because UFC rules protect them" Another way of looking at it is that strikers are being punished though ;) Considering what changed is eliminating things strikers can do, it seems more impartial to say: "wrestlers can just wrestle without being punished because UFC rules favor grapplers"

@Strig Wilson Bruce Lee plucked out of time and into modern UFC would definitely have got his ass kicked big time. I'm from Belém, the same town Lyoto grew up. My younger brother wanted to learn Karate so we took him to the best karate academy, APAM Machida. Every day I took my brother there, and every day I saw little Lyoto stretching, training, and even assisting his father on training the starting belts. I was around 13, so Machida must have been 9 or 10 at the time and he was already a purple belt (two behind the black). I remember thinking to myself: this kid is going to be a karate legend one day. He ended up becoming much more.

It does not surprise me - Brazilians seem to have great ability in this area. Not only the Riordan jiu jitsu clan who nearly took the world Judo championship years ago but also in Seido Karate's 300 man kumite challenge. When most other humans are totalled by it, Brazilian practitioners look barely fatigued. Fortunately in my 20 or so years of martial arts training I never had to fight a Brazilian in kumite. For which I am truly thankful.
