@tired of the bs I think it’s healthy for children to attend funerals, especially from age 6 onwards. I taught Primary school for years, children aged from 5-12. The important thing is both the language used and the chance to say goodbye, to understand death is final. When a mother falls pregnant and has a miscarriage, the language used around it is often “mommy lost the baby”. I had three children over the years of teaching who became fixated on the fact their mom lost the baby, so much so, that they thought it meant lost as in can’t find it. They became concerned their mom would lose them. One child searched their house everywhere, in every cupboard etc. I had to explain that mommy’s baby died dead, in her tummy. Other kids the parents told them granny, uncle, sister, etc went to sleep. When they died. The kids were too scared to sleep as they knew that meant not seeing anyone again. The children that were told your dad, sister, aunt etc died, and went to the funerals, were the ones who dealt with death better. They learnt that crying is healthy, that they could be angry, could be quiet, that it’s ok to laugh on the same day as crying. Charlotte and George would have been given an insightful talk about it all. Given there was ten days before the funeral, they would have talked them through what happens at the funeral and the internment plus the ceremonial stuff involved. I’m guessing but I expect they were given an option, do you want to go or not. Going gives you a chance to say bye, to do one last special thing for GanGan, etc.

Actually it was because George pinched her something that made her cry. It was a long week.

I know kids have to learn about death and I don't know what the proper age should be to deal with funerals but these two kids still seem far too young to go through those services in my opinion. Their behavior was phenomenal from what I saw, it just seems like to much to cope with emotionally at such a young age.

The way both Princess Charlotte and Prince George behaved at the Queens funeral were both impeccable and dignified for children of that aged,both the Prince and Princess of Wales must be immensely proud of their children on how they did during their Grandma’s funeral and I’m deeply proud of them myself.

Must be incredibly difficult to have to go through learning about death, and all the other ugly parts of life, with a so many people always watching. Bless their hearts. Such poise and dignity. Princess Charlotte is an impressive little girl, obviously being raised well by her mother. Prince George looks like he’s taking his position very seriously as well. My husband grew up in Canada, an ocean away from both sets of grandparents, his aunts/uncles, cousins. Literally every relative of his was in the UK and only he, his brother, and their parents were in Canada. His cousin invited us to England, let us stay at his home for 2 weeks, loaned us his range roaver, took us out to dinner several times. He and my husband were first cousins who had only met once as young children, but he did all of that because we were family.

@Margaret McGill That’s an unusual perspective. Princess Charlotte is 7. Harry did not move away until 2 years ago. Of course they have been around each other and of course he loves his niece. There’s many photos of them together. He was close to Prince William and Princess Catherine. (Good on the publishers showing respect) So now he’s taking advantage of the extra time to do some rewrites, to include this episode. And surely ‘tell all’ about how ‘horribly treated’ by the royals they both were, yet again.😂  He may even do a real stretch & try to blame them somehow for his not being w/his grandmother before she died. That’s _all_ on him, however. Most likely his wife was the real reason. And now he has to live w/that, _and_ declining to spend a night w/her, just a week prior. SMH The King really needs to listen to the ppl on this, & strip them totally of any titles. Maybe after the forthcoming kicks in the face, he finally will. Something the Queen should have done before she passed.   They couldn’t even visit w/her as requested beforehand. How low can ppl go? That couple has some serious issues.

I think both of the children did exceptionally well considering the length of time and the fact it was their final goodbye to their great grandmother. Wonderful loving preparation and support from their parents and other family members. God bless you all. @aadya , they do have legal surnames, it is Mountbatten-Windsor. They generally don't use it, but if they need to for legal purposes, their surname is Mountbatten-Windsor. That is literally the surname of King Charles and his siblings as well as William and Harry and their children. The late Queen's legal surname was Windsor. Don't confuse titles with their names, one has nothing to do with the other. Being a Duke/Duchess, Earl/Countess is like their job title (in the US it would be like the Governor and Mayor respectively, a Governor is higher than a Mayor, but it is a job title, an occupation, not a name they take with them once they move on to the next position). It isn't something they would change the name of their kids to. The world will know Prince William and Catherine as Prince and Princess of Wales, Duke/Duchess of Cornwall, etc because of having a title from each of the countries that make up the UK. Their legal surname is what it is and always has been.

There was a photo I saw from the funeral. 2 photos put together: one of the Princess Royal looking at King Charles from beside him and a second photo of Princess Charlotte looking at Prince George the same way. Princess Charlotte and Princess Anne have the same exact expression as do King Charles and his grandson.

Little Louis was a bit too young to attend the funeral, and after all the antics at the Jubilee, his parents probably thought better of it!!! Bless them all, may they find the strength to get through this terribly emotional time.

She totally blanked him from what I could see! George looks like such a lovely, sensitive little boy whilst Charlotte seems very canny and tough. She will be a great advisor to him in the daunting role of monarch.

The two children did a remarkable job at their Ft Grandmothers funeral. Its heartbreaking to see their pain.
