I have a set of different size little decorative irons and some long handles which screw into them... they are old and I was told that they were for making pizzelle.  anyone know if I just put these on the heat and then take them off and if so how?

Cute Video.  Makes me miss my Mom and Auntie.  I have no one to make pizzelles with anymore.  But it was fun to watch.  I use a watch  (the second hand) and time the cookies when I get the first perfect ones.  A neat little tip.  Another is to chill the batter about 20 minutes before cooking.  Helps keep the batter from rising in the bowl but not sure if you really need to.  Just the way we did it.  Also... don't make these during humid weather.  You will find out why.   Wow, really missing my Mom and Auntie right now.

My Mom's family was from England and their old recipe had brown sugar, separated eggs with the whites beaten a pound of butter etc. The only thing we ever cook them on is my great grandmothers iron which is put on a fire and flipped and they have really long handles so they can go over the fire. We always just called them waffles though. They are so good with just butter melted .

very nice, the modern irons i have found are not deep enough for me.i prefer my grandma's ancient one that looks like the old one you have.never mixed the butter in after though, does it make a different textured cookie?we like anise and we like them dark in my family too!
