There is a book called "The Cult of Pharmacology". It tells many stories, but one in particular is the story of the drug Prozac. It has been a savior for many people. The story most people don't know is about the preliminary testing that was done prior to its approval by the FDA and release onto the market. There were a multitude of suicides that occured and even a few murders if I remember correctly. One story in particular was that of Phil Hartman's wife. She was one of the patients undergoing treatment of the, at that point, experimental drug called Prozac. She was taking the drug at the time she murdered Phil and took her own life. The company gain approval only on a technicality. The results and effects of the drug could not be published if a test subject were to drop out of the study prior to its completion. They catagorized patients that commited suicide or who experienced adverse effects of a severe nature that would prevent approval of the drug as patients that did not complete the study. Therefore the drug was approved without knowledge of these situations. The stories weren't published until after the fact. So Prozac has saved the lives of many people. But it has also facilitated the death of many and the murder of some, including the comic genius who was Phil Hartman. RIP

She was taking Zoloft, not Prozac.

Dave had to be on his game. When you have a witty, intelligent and hilarious guest like Phil Hartman, you had to make sure he didn't end up laughing at you instead of with you. The man was a comedic genius with every character he ever portrayed, completely believable. That man literally made me laugh until I hurt.

Great collection - thanks for this - awesome to see all these! 2 of my favorite funny people. Perfect environment for Phil to go off. I miss these days - we were so lucky to have Letterman on late night TV - so much entertainment. Cheers.

Best Frankenstein ever. My friend Tracy knew him well enough to be in his biography. She wrote a lot of comedy sketches in her heyday. I liked him in NewsRadio too.

I did the food service for MGM jets a couple times, back in the late 80's,, in Las Vegas,, very upscale interior for a 727-200 !!,,,, very luxurious aircraft!,, yes very limited seating!, maybe sat 30 people,, even the bathroom/lavatory had a small "couch"

Phil and Sinatra died just a few weeks apart. That was a lousy month. Phil truly was "the glue". He was in the cast when I reached the age to watch SNL every week, and was always brilliant.

This video is a great way to see the development of Phil from new player on SNL to seasoned comedian. Every one of his appearances was funny and entertaining. Great loss of talent.
Vor MonatRicky Tenderkiss
I love how Phil Hartman’s comic persona, the guy in the suit and tie, was a complete invention: in reality he was a laid-back, t-shirt-and-jeans, pot-smoking hippie surfer dude who designed album covers for rock bands… crazy! He didn’t even become famous until he was forty, either — proof it’s never too late to hit it big with your third, fifth, or eighteenth career.

Phil was solid. He was always great in the skits in the late '80s, early '90s of SNL and he'd support and make everyone else look better, he was a rock. AND he could be the leading man comedian, he had great skits and style, like kind of a weird straight man. I loved that guy
Vor 2 Monateytubeanon
his official SNL nickname was "the Glue" cuz he kept everything together and made it work, usually as the straightman

Phil's talent was just immense. There were so many epic talented guys from SNL in the 80's, but Phil tops them all, my opinion. His German/English thing in the beginning is just a whole other level to other guys who do great impressions. Thanks for uploading!

Although I wanted to watch all of this, I did not think I wanted to sit for 2 hours straight, but this was so enjoyable and funny I ended up watching it all straight through. It really hits a peak at 01:20:00-1:30:00. I watched that part several times. Phil you were awesome !!!

I really miss what Late Night With David Letterman meant to me. Had I known then I’d have recorded the hem all. Fortunately we have You Tube. I had most of the SNL episodes recorded from about 1982 onward. Sure in the 80’s you spent all your money on cocaine, rap and pastel coloured pants... I bought a carton of VHS tapes every week.

My first Yankee game was May 28, 1998. It was David Wells' start after his perfect game. I was 15 and almost as soon as I left the house, the radio reported Phil's murder. I'll never forget that day. The Yankees won 8-3 against the Red Sox. Jorge Posada and Darryl Strawberry both hit home runs. I was so torn that day. Phil was such a big influence in my humor.
