This happens so often in places with strict gun laws. It is heartbreaking.

I used to live in Chicago, and left for many reasons. The ineptitude and irrational actions (and inaction) by the City and State regarding many issues is nothing new, just increasing in horribleness. It is exponentially becoming impossible to afford to live there, costs of all goods are sky high, the misguided focus on Policing is just inhibiting effectiveness (and they cannot be there immediately in an emergency, it is up to you as your first and last line of defense as a citizen, fight back against gun laws that only detrimentally affect law-abiding people, because obviously the bad guys don't follow laws), and communities in general are doing nothing to actually solve the problems regarding criminal activity and Gang violence. Everyone wants to cry and talk the talk after something happens or one of their own is killed, but yet they don't want to point out those responsible or work to actually prevent it from happening. Improve parenting and stabilize familial structure, demonize and de-incentivize Gang culture (to include fighting back as a whole, seriously), and get some actually intelligent people into governance there that will work to improve the quality of life, security/ stability, and commerce for the city. Y'all have shot yourselves in the foot 4 times over now, better to amputate and make some serious changes.

I've lived in some rough places and have been the victim of violence too many times including getting shot after I gave up my $50 1971 Datsun that was my courier car. I've been robbed at gunpoint five times with two of those times ending with a pistol whipping splitting my ear once and my temple another time. All of this were in districts with either zero tolerance for firearms owned and or carried by the constituents there or districts like NYC with 8.5 million people but only 4.5 thousand gun permits. Honestly, I get robbing people much more than how badly I was bullied throughout the 8 schools I went to in the 12 years of primary education. I don't have a clue why I tested positive for PTSD three times, among other things, at my sister's expense as she can't ethically diagnose me even though she has the credentials and I've only recently re-connected with family. Everyone should have the protection those they vote for have and vice versa. Want my guns? Give up yours too.

Back in 2009 about 11 of my family members and I went to Chicago during the 4th of July weekend for the Taste of Chicago in Grant Park. We traveled all over the city for 5 days .It was an amazing experience we all had fun and ate like crazy. Thankfully, we all made it back home to Louisiana safely. I seriously doubt if I’d ever go back though, it doesn’t seem like it would be as safe as it was back in ‘09.

60 shot and still learned nothing. I had a guy harassing me at work. I told him to leave me alone before we went outside to go home , letting him know I had a solution in my car. My supervisor told me not to say that because the guy was a crack dealer before and been shot three different times. I told them both if he wants I could make it his last. They learn nothing.

Do you realize that murders and shootings are SIGNIFICANTLY down not just down by a bit they are SIGNIFICANTLY down. Teenage murders are also down by 42%. You can all sit here an follow the trend of criticizing light foot but it doesn’t change the fact that her planned has worked. That's a gang problem in the city of Chicago. Regular citizens might own guns for self defense and protection. Regular citizens like us we don't go out looking for trouble. These gang members get drunk during summer and go at each other with illegally owned guns. During winter time Chicago does not see gun violence as much. Chicago has huge gang problem that's the problem, regular Chicago citizens have nothing to do with it. Also 24th and California jail does not have enough room to lock everyone up. Chicago cook county needs to invest in building a another big county jail. The current situation of cook county jail, the jail is over crowded and the county judges have no choice but to release violent criminals back out on the streets, you have repeat violent offenders. The Governor of illinois needs to build a another big jail and remove the 10% bond requirement, when these criminals commit violent crimes and there bond is set to $250k they only need to pay $25k to get out, remove all the deferred programs for repeat offenders. Currently cook jail is way too over crowded. Only way you'll goto jail is if you rob someone 3 times on a gun point than the judge recognizes you as a criminal.

I went to Navy Pier Friday afternoon and then walked down Michigan Avenue from Wacker Drive to Roosevelt. Navy Pier looked like an armed camp and I saw a police car on every other block on Michigan Ave. The mayor is making sure the tourists are being well-protected.
