@Everything Watercraft most modular video cameras like this don’t have EVFs and are used with monitors on rigs or gimbals. I think this camera was made for their new drone to be released soon as well. The a7sIII is the video camera you want that has an EVF. Different tools for different applications.

Can not and will not shoot without EVF so I’ll never be interested in it

The FX3 is a far superior camera than the a7S III in terms of operability for professional video work. XLR inputs, active cooling system, mounting points, top handle, tally lights, very important upgraded features on set. Way more suitable and reliable for any sort of filmmaking, just makes more sense in every aspect. Greetings

Yeah I almost never use EVF. About photos they are amazing with a7S iii - great colours and DR. And no I'm not pissed off I'm really happy with my choice and going to build a rig for it - yes FX3 has it's upsides like the rig would be lighter without having to use the cage... but come on it's the same camera! Give me an internal ND and I will switch without a second thought.

Honestly, there will always be something better out there. Unless you MUST have the latest gear (For some reason) just enjoy what you have. Of course, if you need to upgrade, then upgrade, but I hear a lot of people that say, "Well, I should have waited" or "I just bought this and now they come out with that...?" Unless there is something hindering your abilities with the A7S III, just keep it and shoot with it, and then within a few years, upgrade. IDK. maybe I've just gotten to a point where I Don't really care what new bodies come out. My 45MP Nikon is plenty for my needs and I have almost all the lenses I want (minus about 3, which are going to be purcahsed over the next 3 years and them I'm set for at least a few years). I think when you stop obssessing about the latest stuff and gear, you can enjoy your photography more. I know I do.

There is 1 Big difference. FX3 has constant data rate of 600MBPS internally. Which is same in resolving power as A7siii ProresRaw

Great vid Jared, as a wedding videographer who's invested in the A7siii, I was like WTF with this camera release. Although it'd be nice to have that sweet handle, the EVF is more important to me for shooting outside. I use it ALL the time.

CLICKBAIT ALARM!!! And the FX3 will NEVER be a cine cam without a variable ND. For the price, the Blackmagic 6k (or 6k pro) absolutely destroy these cams: 6 stop variable ND (w/no IR contamination), 6k (ok not the most important), FPS up the wazoo and shoots RAW as well as variety of ProRes flavours... You can adjust the TEMP in post!!! Not to mention you get Resolve 17! And the PRO has a tilt screen and a battery grip with 2 sony batteries that charge the internal one in the cam! Sorry mate, these are NOT cinecams, not even close. Run n'Gun? Sure, but only because of the auto focus, but then you would get a C70, no brainer!! Too expensive Sony, you are loosing terrain vs Blackmagic and Canon.

Bit of a clickbait J... Personally think Sony f'd it with both. No ND, no waveform... that's no cine cam... And the price!! Cmon!! Wanna do film? Get a BPCC and you still got budget for lenses and externals. I've graded the 7s3 with it's 10b422 and I'm not impressed. Not for that price. Sony needs to step up the game, if they want to compete they need to match the BPCC which is a BEAST.

personally i disagree the a7s3 is a fantastic travel camera if your more focused on video but still want the option to shoot stills and the viewfinder is very good in bright daylight where its difficult to see the back lcd screen sometimes

This camera is just a rehousing of the A7sIII in a cinema line vibes, but internally, same camera for a little bit more of the price... :( So, no neeeeeed to be pissed hahahahaha. How them can call it cinema line if it does not recording internal raw 16bits? Having an active cooling fan is not enough for calling it cinema canera. The FX3 have not ND built in (even it was electronic ND it doesn´t have), neither dual iso, no internal 16 raw recording, no SDI connection, no EVF... How bright is the LCD screen? How i´m gonna block in a sunny day with the LCD screen? Whats the point of buying a FX3 instead a A7sIII (which will be updated with s-cinetone, and also has a microphone module)? If the main advantage of the camera is his tiny body, what´s the purpose of need to add an external recorder? It´s a little bit disappointing :/ Like the Sigma FP, great concept, but has a pretty critical flaws in a very competitive market segment.

Not sure why A7SIII owners should be pissed. At least here in Germany, the FX3 is a t a 4700 EUR list price and an A7SIII + XLR-K3M is also 4700 EUR list price. So it comes down to if you need an EVF or rather prefer the more compact form factor of the FX3 that can be used without a cage. In my opinion its a toss-up.

I disagree that the A7SII is a bad choice for being a hybrid camera. I use my A7SIII to shoot still thumbnails for my YouTube videos and it works great for that purpose.

If the FX3 has a fan and vents it probably is not as survivable in the rain or snow. I shoot a lot in the backcountry so weather sealing matters a lot to me. I once dropped a Nikon in a river and it survived.

I have shot (over the last 30 years!) with literally every camera under the sun from the cheapest 8mm and 16mm film camera to the C300mk2 to the Arri Alexa-65! -- In your case, I do actually suggest shooting on the Canon R5 in HQ 4K mode (i.e. ultra high quality image!) which will pretty much get rid of ANY issues with overheating which really only happens in DCI 8K mode anyways! The weather sealing on the R5 is quite excellent. The Canon 1Dx mk3 is still better at resisting rain, snow and cold BUT it doesn't have all the video features that the Canon R5 does! If you are in the heavy snow and ice or super-rain-forest-wet back country of Western Canada (i.e. like me!), then the Canon R5 is the way to go. I can tell right away from all the current late Feb 2021 in-hand reviews that the Sony FS-3 just can't handle super-harsh environments like winter in upper Minnesota/Wisconsin and Western Canada. It might work better in the dry deserts of Arizona or Utah or the hot humid summer of New York City but I can see right away that the Sony FS-3 will have problems in the wet rainforests of western British Columbia and Washington State or the brutal cold of mountainous Alberta or upper Minnesota and Wisconsin. AND no matter what anyone says, I ALWAYS STILL BUY A CAMERA CAGE which acts as a buffer so even if it gets dropped, the cage takes the brunt of the blunt force trauma rather than the camera itself! AND a camera cage lets you attach all the extra batteries which are a MUST on these types of systems! Get a hardware-mod and/or 3rd party attachment for the Anton Bauer Gold battery systems. You can shoot all day and night with those Anton Bauer batteries! The extra weight of the batteries actually makes smooth shooting MUCH EASIER when doing it handheld because it balances the camera and larger lenses much better! Hope that helps! v

Personally the A7IIIs is a jack of all trades while the FX3 is the master of cinema when comparing the 2.

A7Siii-owner. Not pissed, because I shoot with EVF in bright daylight. I find the display to be quite pathetic, being 3:2 instead of 16:9, and only 1.4 mio pixels (of which you even have to substract the letterbox-parts), as opposed to a true 720p display with the C70 - or the 3,14 mio pixels EVF of the A7Siii. Not pissed, because I don't want XLR audio, and I paid less. Not pissed, because the mounting points are _not_ useful for gimbals, because you need two at the bottom for that instead of one, and my cheap smallrig cage has them, and 29 more. All that said, the FX3 is a little beauty, and I can't help falling in love. A7Siii isn't so sexy at first glance, but the intrinsic values are 100% the same.

Since I am so new to video I had not realized that I never actually use my viewfinder on my 80d until I watched this video. :) I have only used the screen. I have one camera setup for stills and another dedicated to video shooting, it just makes my workflow much easier and I don’t worry about changing or forgetting to change settings on my cameras. So yes I can see an A7siii purchaser annoyed that Sony had this camera in the wings and did not make it available at the time the a7siii was released. planning to upgrade soon if cameras become available and this information is good stuff. I think this fx3 is not weather sealed because of the fan. While the a7s3 is weather sealed right? So i guess i will wait if its also weather sealed cause i also consider this option. Luckily I haven't bought a7siii.

Why do Sony not have EVF's on their video cameras? An EVF is much better in bright sunny conditions. An EVF gives much better stability when the camera is against your head. An EVF also helps concentrate the mind on the details in the shot while keeping other stuff out. Why couldn't the FX3 have had an EVF that was able to tilt like Sony cameras used to have?
