@Bob Sentell I wanted AMD to win for a change. It's been a decade of dominance for Nvidia. I did buy the 4090 on day 1. But if AMD had a 4090 beater, I would've sold my 4090 and bought the 7900XTX. Wtf happened. AMD had a 1000$ 6900XT that performed great vs 3090. Now AMD has this 7900XTX at 1000$ again, but thid time it gets absolutely annihilated by 4090. Total destruction in every way possible. Like a first round knockout of one of the old Mike Tyson fights from the mid to late 80s. AMD never saw it coming and got completely destroyed. I don't think AMD can come back from this beating. It could be career ending.

AMD lost alot of ground this generation. AMD was sooo close last gen. The 4090 just massacred Radeon. These new AMD cards are so bad, it makes the 4090 look like it's from the future. Hahaha. Got my 4090 day 1. I didn't want to wait 2 months for AMD to come out. I thought they had a real chance. I was rooting for AMD. This is the most disappointing generation AMD has ever had.

@M Z They could be thinking that the target demographic would like "gamer" design. I am Asian too and I am even from Asia. But I have to admit that the asian preferred design is flashy ones according to studies, especially mainland China. Chinese likes flashy design to show face and tell you that they got an expensive GPU. You can see this in designs of car brands that tried to enter the Chinese market like BMW. See how their design went from subdued and elegant in the early 2010s to the abomination of a flashy big grill design nowadays. They changed the design to adapt to the mainland Chinese taste and culture. Perhaps it is a wise move to attract more buyers from those market, corporate wise. Sadly, seems like I am in the minority in my choice and taste in design because I like a more subdued and professional looking rig.

@kato i never understand why gpus look so childish. Insane RGB and silly design. Cheap logos and Stuff written all over the Place. There is 3 types, Dark them, White theme and RGB Theme PC RIGS. Just stick to those and youre fine. Like we barely get a plain white custom design that is in stock because of the demand. I guess its becaue the designers are mostly asian and their definition of aesthetics isnt compatible with western standard.

Hope to see better support for AMD cards though. I know that gamer's may not really notice but there is a world of difference between NVIDIA shaders in UE5 and AMD in UE5, also UE4. Side by side UE4 and UE5 run better on NVIDIA. I am not a fanboy of team green and their abuse. But I use both brands in my household and between identical hardware except GFX card there are significant performance differences and visual differences of the final output. What I have always wanted was the same kind of support in engines and for hardware rendering of scenes that we get out of NVIDIA. We really need AMD to break into those areas and unseat NVIDIA because I am sick of NVIDIA's shit. I REALLY REALLY want AMD to start to dominate in shader language/game engines, etc.

Just for the record, those "AI Accelerators" are mostly bunk. They share compute resources with the GPU shader cores, and they're basically just FP16/BF16/INT8 at double the FP32 rates. Just like you could do with the GPU shaders and half-precision FP16! Minor gains in efficiency and a few new instructions maybe? But based on the theoretical compute, these AI Accelerators aren't really anything special.

Here is why I went AMD.. I was thrilled to pick up a new AMD 6900xt Reference card for $700 on eBay back in October after waiting so long for prices to start to even out. I was coming from an Nvidia 1060 6GB with an Intel I5 that to this day can still hold it's ground and has plenty of life left for 1080p gaming (And also for Sale as a complete PC on eBay for anyone who is interested) , that thing was some of the best bang for you buck I've had! Safe to say I am very happy with my 6900xt, I didn't like the direction Nvidia was taking, and I always saw AMD as the "Android" and Nvidia as the "iPhone" but this generation gives me all the faith in AMD, their Processors are fantastic, and my GPU has been a monster! What intrigued me as as someone who enjoys their fair share of games of all types was their Smart Access Memory Technology, and the fact that AMD's GPU's seemed to be very underrepresented in the PC community. I looked at their catalogue of what they have to offer, and what I liked was the look of their lineup - it's simple, bold, and looks like it knows how to party when needed, and be also be all business. There is no denying that Nvidia is a leader in some categories like Ray Tracing being vastly superior, and 4k gaming, along with being easier to use with other software and such for developers. But NVidias offerings also cost more, and consume more power along with their GPU's being larger in size and frankly Uglier (although you have a TON of other manufacturer options so that's also a huge plus) What made me choose AMD was it's value per dollar. Let's be honest, most of us aren't buying super top end space ships for our PC's (I paired my 6900xt with a Ryzen 5 5600x) which is why AMD got my dollar. I find it more important now than ever to vote with your money. Nvidia and Intel have been absolutely CHECKED by AMD, and rightfully so. I'm someone who isn't loyal to a brand name, and who loves games from all systems. I just want my hard earned money to go to the product that fits my needs most for a reasonable price, and AMD has done that. Most of you aren't here for benchmarks and all that stuff, and I feel like too much of the PC gaming community invests too much time comparing specs, brands, and framerates instead of just enjoying your games. Don't get me wrong, I love me some specs, and silky smooth framerates but I care most about the experience. For that my 6900xt has given me a very rich experience with everything I've thrown at it. The only thing I'd really be able to notice with my eyes is the Ray Tracing being a little rough compared to Nvidia, but I honestly don't use the Ray Tracing option. I play my games on my 2k monitor, and I've been absolutely delighted. I like AMD's Adrenalin software and have had nothing but a breezy, smooth, strong experience. I love that my GPU is more energy efficient, smaller in size, and provides everything I want, and then some for a better price than Nvidias offerings do. Nvidia and AMD are keeping each other competitive and we all benefit from it! But AMD performs better per dollar and watts than Nvidia does. Nvidia can rev their engine a little higher, but 99% of you would not be able to notice with your naked eye nor even have the hardware to fully utilize the difference in higher end power. As of right now AMD has shown me they care about the value and performance to their customers, and look like they are continuing to do so, and for that I am team AMD at the moment =)

I always had AMD cards in my PC's. I only switched because back in the Day they would start giving me Artifacts in the better performing DX10 Preview mode of FSX. So that is when I made the switch. To the infamous GTX970 with the fake 4GIG, and belonged to the people that didn't understand why Tomb Raider 2 performed so bad on ultra graphics until it dawned on me that this really was a 3.5 GIG card and NVIDA had screwed us over. I'm now on my 3rd NVIDIA GPU but it seems with how things are developing it's back to AMD for me.

processing power was never the problem with Radeon cards, They've always been a good value on paper in that regard. The problem is they never seem to get the drivers right to utilize that power. Without good drivers I don't care how powerful those cards are, they'll still get their asses handed to them by a 2000 series Nvidia card.

@SilentGuy These cards are not good enough, the XT especially. Even the XTX lags behind in RT performance. Even if the XTX rasterization performance is trading blows with the 4080, it needs to be atleast as fast in RT aswell. The XT's $899 makes no sense either as the card on avg is more than 10% slower than the XTX, anyone considering a purchase would be a fool not to spring an extra $100 for the XTX. I just don't want to settle for lesser RT performance as i use it in every title that supports it so this is disappointing.

When it comes to "dethroning", I think top-end is irrelevant. It matters most what the performance/$ for the RTX 4060 vs its AMD equivalent will look like. If AMD pulls off a similar stunt in that segment, pulling their prices closer towards pre-pandemic levels, then Nvidia is really in trouble. Reviewers & gamers love to talk about the fastest cards, but the majority of consumers are just looking for a decent card in the $200-$400 range.

AMD was blessed this year, thanks to Nvidia's greediness. Their $1200 RTX 4080 appeals to exactly no one: top end users with unlimited budget will spend more for the highly superior 4090, while the budget consumer will prefer under 1k graphics cards. The 7900 family perfectly bridges the gap between mid to low end RTX graphics cards and the high end 4090. I hope Nvidia learns their lesson this year, with anti-consumer practices. They don't get to dictate prices, they don't get to decide when "Moore's law is dead and we can now charge whatever we want". And, as a bonus, scalpers also got boned with mountains of unsold 4080s. A perfect Christmas present.

@Michael Yang Yeah, fairly often RT ruins the atmosphere of games, gotta love that grainy texture it adds along with ruining contrast. It's neat where it works until you remember that half life 2 had fantastic water reflections over a decade ago. Surely we could figure out how to do reflections that good on more than 1 surface in over a decade no?
Vor Monat
Sherrif
@Random Dud3 it can depend on the game, ray tracing in a game like hitman is groundbreakingly beautiful but also functional. Being able to see movement in a reflection or a shadow of a character model that is off screen is massive, however I do hope that developers don't go all in on raytracing yet. As good looking as it is, making games have functionally beautiful reflection and shadow maps with the work arounds we've been using (and even making those methods work better) should still be a focus. Raytracing can look really good and it's actually relatively hands off for game devs to add to the game (compared to SSR and shadow mapping). One day we can start releasing games where non-ray tracing cards will just... have no shadows or reflections, but we're definitely not there, but sadly there are games that have gone this approach (one such game doesn't even launch without an "RTX" capable card). The problem with RTX, and why it's really hard to justify the framerate hit for most people, is the fact that we have "good enough" solutions that have been in games since quake 2 and most game devs work on making it better and better. The crux is it takes a lot of effort, since it's "fake" shadows and reflections, there's a lot of limitations and loss in quality and accuracy and an increase in the time developers spend on it. Meanwhile ray tracing just auto solves shadows and reflections, sure the model makers (and texture artists) have to spend a bit of effort for enabling ray tracing to work, but they no longer have to build a fake shader. What is happening though is kinda the worst of both worlds, as ray tracing is more and more possible, devs are spending less and less time working on the "fake" shadows and reflection systems and putting their beans in the ray tracing pot. Cyberpunk has amazing looking shadows and reflections (plus the light refractions) but if you don't have ray tracing a lot of objects just don't cast shadows, mirrors don't even have a reflection unless you "activate" them... it's almost like they used ray tracing to cut corners, not to make it look better. So what we get is a game with shadows and lighting that's only really a step above PS2 global emission unless you click on ray tracing. For most people that's plenty good enough, it has fake shadows in enough places to feel "lit" the most people ignore the lack of reflections in the puddles and only think about reflections when it comes to mirrors. They're "good enough" for people, but relatively terrible compared to the ray traced solutions. In plenty of games I feel like ray tracing isn't necessary because the developer (like hitman 3 from my earlier example) spent plenty of time making a robust and good looking game without the need for ray tracing. I still like that they add the support (that's how we drive demand for cards) but I'm not a fan of the trend of having ray tracing replace traditional fake lighting/reflection.
Vor Monat

For me it completely depends on the games Cyberpunk, Dying Light 2 look almost like completely different games with RT enabled. But there are definitely some games that have RT added later and those just don't look very impressive. Besides not being the best at RT these 7000 GPUs look really good.

@A Todaso Yeah, I mistakenly put a $ but saw what he posted. By current conversion though 50 pounds in 61 USD. In the year 2000 GBP seems to be worth 1.5 USD average and even that 50 pounds would be 75$. I just find it hard to believe that GPUs have ever been 75$ new.

Good day Linus and team. I would love to see how this card card perform at 8k on titles people actually play competitively like csgo and COD as a few examples. The reason is if you want to go 8k 165hz for an advantage over you opponent and can push 165hz on that game should you do it? Of course we are still waiting for monitors that can support it, However would the GPU handle those simple games at that resolution and refresh rate?

Vor MonatSunedosa

Vor MonatMichael Yang
@Nathan Jokeley 🤣, yeah my 4090 is working great thanks
Vor MonatPineyJustice
@Michael Yang Yeah, fairly often RT ruins the atmosphere of games, gotta love that grainy texture it adds along with ruining contrast. It's neat where it works until you remember that half life 2 had fantastic water reflections over a decade ago. Surely we could figure out how to do reflections that good on more than 1 surface in over a decade no?
Vor MonatSherrif
Vor MonatXxViciousxX
For me it completely depends on the games Cyberpunk, Dying Light 2 look almost like completely different games with RT enabled. But there are definitely some games that have RT added later and those just don't look very impressive. Besides not being the best at RT these 7000 GPUs look really good.
