He's literally only on the roster to kill penalties, his 5X5 play is horrendous. To be fair, the Oilers PK was a big part of this win, Vancouver has a good powerplay and it would have been a different game if Oilers hadn't kept them to 0/5 on their special teams. But I can't wait for Haas to be healthy again, he's a stronger option for 4C. And Nygard should be on that 4th line, I don't know why Devin Shore is getting that winger spot

Glad the oilers played a team game. If we play like this, we will succeed..Koskiken is a solid goalie. Especially when the team doesn't hang him out to dry. Some people forget that Koskinen has not played a ton of games in the NHL , but he is adapting quickly.

Can someone explain this to me? Watching Oilers over the years (I am a big Oilers fan) I noticed one thing that's happening year after year after year that resulted in letting lots of goals, which in turn cost them lots of games.. When they defend, they tend to position themselves close to the net. They rarely attack the opposition blueliners and, basically, let them shoot the puck without putting any pressure on the shooter. It's not what we call active defending. And that is why, they get a lot of shots from opposition. Sure, some shots are blocked and go wide, but eventually, puck is going in the net because either the goalie is screened or because of deflection. I can understand why they do it when shorthanded (even though the best way to kill penalty is to put pressure on opposition), but 5 on 5??? Last night 2 goals were exactly result of this passive defending... And it looks like they are not correcting it, year after year after year...

Not to freak out or anything over one game, but this is exactly what happens when you only have two and a half good defensemen that don't let in three goals per game, not as good forward depth even with the new prospects, and trade away some of your best prospects for ten game rentals. If Benning didn't mess with the process his scouts carried him with instead of wasting the cap on guys like Myers then we would've won this game. You can't blame a single goal on Demko. Would be a 20x better team than we already are if we swapped GMs.

@Kai Bakker No one said they have a great defensive core. That doesn't mean most teams in the NHL don't have better defense though. And I disagree. They're better than the Canucks on defense. They don't have a star like Hughes, but everyone else is better and one defenseman can't carry a whole defensive lineup. Nurse > Schmidt. Everyone else > what the Canucks have outside of Hughes. Myers sucks and quite literally just stands there and does nothing watching the puck go into his own net. Benn started sucking ever since he came to Vancouver sadly. Juolevi sucks from what we have seen from the bust so far (thanks Benning). It seems like Edler has no more gas left in the tank. I liked Hamonic in the past and thought he was underrated and did lots of good charity work, but he sucks now. Type of guy to set up one good scoring chance in a game and then set up four for the other team. Edmonton has lots of solid 4-5 options. All of them have played better than those 5 on the Canucks so far. The offense carried the Canucks the last game just like they and Demko did in the playoffs. Demko tried his best tonight, but it wasn't enough.

@G06 Their style of play is different. I feel Crosby is more versatile. He’s raised the bar far beyond point scoring. McDavid is a phenomenal player, however, Sid is still the best in my opinion. Pull up videos on his quick release, edge-work, passing, and puck protection!

@jimbodiced I kind of agree with u. But One thing I’m scared about Mcdavid is the first thing you lose as u get older is speed. Crosby has so much success even after his prime because he is such a good all round player and doesn’t rely on one skill. Mcdavid is a speed past the defence and shoot type of a player. The second he gets old and he starts to slow down his offensive production will start to slow down as well because he relies on his speed. Unless he starts to rely less on his out of this world speed.

@Reehan- I love Nate Mac and will acknowledge him as a top 3 player in the league, but I highly doubt it. He's right in the middle of his prime now. Any improvements are bound to be negligible since these are his best years right now. He even plays on a far superior team compared to McDavid, and he still doesn't put up the same numbers. Close, but the edge is still Connor. Connor is also younger, so it's more than likely that he'd get better as the roster around him improves

Great game from the fearsome foursome. Even JP started looking a tad more comfortable and confident by late in the 3rd. I really hope he can crack the McDavid line. Ryan, Kailer and Leon are just so damn good together. Time and experience will tell the tale.

Thing is he wasn't supposed to play tonight. 5 hrs before the game Mike Smith was "unfit to play", so they had to start him. Not saying run him to the ground, but if they play Koskinen as if he's the #1. Not 50-50. They might win more than lose, not sure how it might affect his fitness/fatigue, however.
